The Duck was the bomb!!! I’ll defiantly be back. It was so so so very good!!!
Excellent little chinese hole in the wall. DELICIOUS Dim Sum & Buns. I come back regularly...very Good and very Cheap!
I'm sure I'm already preaching to the choir when I say that this is easily the best roast duck in San Diego.
As for the buns, don't let people's reviews stop you from trying them yourself, like I foolishly almost did. The bread is soft and sweet and the BBQ pork inside is really good. I added some pictures for reference (There was more duck, but my mom already started eating before I took pictures.) You won't regret trying it, and it's all reasonably priced.
I honestly think that the 1 star and 2 star reviews complaining about the taste come from lifelong smokers who burnt out all their taste buds. 🤷♂️
Also if you do end up LIKING this place, give it a GOOD REVIEW. Businesses, especially smaller ones need as much help as they can get during these times, and a lot of people drop reviews only if they had a bad experience. Help out your local businesses.
I came here for some duck for Thanksgiving and it did not disappoint! I read all the reviews and saw that this was so called "the best roast duck in San Diego" and thought I'd give it a try. Honestly they give the biggest quantity and best quality. Take it from a girl who's lived most of her life on LA Chinatown duck. This is top tier. Keep in mind it is a hole in the wall and it's cash only, but most of the best places are.
Doesn’t look like much so I knew this place would be a hidden gem, and it does not disappoint. Some of the juiciest duck and best dimsum outside of convoy. If you’re into simple Chinese bakery staples, this spot is so so good. Way better than anything in the area
I had a sesame bun (amazing dessert), steamed pork bun, baked pork bun and some roast pork. Everything was delicious! They also have whole roast duck, pork spare ribs, and some more exotic options. I wish I could go back right now for another sesame bun!
some of the juiciest pork belly I've ever ate, and the duck is delicious as well. Do NOT skimp out on this place!
One of the best Cantonese bbq joints in town! Cash only as usual for these type of roasted Chinese bbq joints.
The parking lot is a bit rough (you are venturing into East Daygo after all). Don't mind those trying to holler at you or blatantly trying hustling you (black market goodies). This is a hidden gem that your palate will thank you for!
Call ahead of time as they tend to run out of roasted duck pretty early on during the weekdays. Their bbq pork (char siu) is bomb too! Again, get there early to get the freshest slab!
Bring cash and an appetite.
Among several bakeries all around San Diego, Tom's has the best bao consistently. I'll definitely be coming back here again and again.
Cane here christmas and they were open im bringing duck to the party
Tom's has roast ducks approved by 80+ year old Asian women. This place is a hidden gem. Delicious duck and BBQ pork. The coconut buns, an unexpected find in a BBQ place, are a must try. The BBQ buns are pretty good. Friendly service. Cash only. Go early in the day for best selection, end of day mostly left over and limited.
Some items are excellent like their crispy roast pork. Others need improvement like their dimsum bbq pork bun because it's mostly bread and lacks enough filling. Decent prices but cash only. Google hours are wrong too. They open earlier but a lot of fun sum items aren't out yet like their excellent egg tarts with flaky crust and lard. Legit. Their duck is ok, $25 for a whole duck is good value but I've definitely had better duck at a lot of places. Parking in plaza is problematic on the weekend so park across the street at the large Mexican market.
My favorite place to get duck. That thing is like crack for me. Enough spice to compliment the duck taste but not overpower. Prices are not so bad. The bread are decent and dim sum are sold during the weekends.
Got a 1/2 lb of BBQ spareribs and 1/2 lb of BBQ pork and it was amazing. More of a take out place for making meals at home. Kind of like an old school bakery / deli specializing in sweet rolls and roasted BBQ, normally you would see the roast duck hanging in the window. They have Dim Sum on the weekends, which I'll be coming back to try the roast duck and Siu Mei on sat.
Very good roasted duck, price has gone up a lot. Parking is a little hard to find here but if you get there early it should be fine.
Best homemade bao. Wonderful fresh roasted duck. Sunday mornings are the best time to come for freshly made baked items.
Being used to getting roast duck in NYC, the ducks here are huge. Lots of meat, just a different style compared to what I was used too (uses more of a sweet/sour sauce versus soy)
Best place for Duck & BBQ Pork, don't forget to ask for extra sauce.
The dim sum is good if you want it quick and fast - and already made as compared to the restaurants. My favorites are the chicken feet, siu mai, har gow, and tripe ;). mmm nom nom nom. Also, they have awesome egg tarts, if you can find some. Usually only made during the weekend. Their coconut buns are divine, mmm coconut.
The parking here SUCKS - but I think you can park at the bank lot across the street with a quick dash.
Too bad they're only really open until 8pm, and even then there may not be any leftovers. Make sure to come early - when things are fresh and in ample supply
