We were strolling La Jolla enjoying the wonderful weather after we watched the seals and sea lions.
The original restaurant we hoped to visit was closed. Walking back toward our car, we read the Taste of the Himalaya’s menu posted outside and decided to dine in.
We had wonderful service from entering the front patio, and was given a table outside with lovely views.
Our order: the mixed tandoori, chicken makhani, and the garlic naan.
We ordered medium level spiciness (4), and food was brought promptly to the table as it was ready.
It was a lovely and delicious meal, we finished everything. Being able to share the dishes, we were satisfied with the portion sizes.
Oh my goodness, their food is SO GOOD! We have eaten "Indian" food all our lives, in MI, TX and even London, England, and while the names of the dishes were the same here, their version of them is so much better than anywhere we've ever eaten. We ask for "no heat", but there is SO MUCH flavor still there, and fabulous, and somehow better than the same dishes elsewhere. It's a quaint atmosphere, but attractive to us, and we specifically planned to come here again on this trip after our first meal here in 2016. SO glad that our experience yesterday lived up to our memories. We can't wait to be in La Jolla to eat here again. :)
Randomly chose this place for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. There was only one server working and he did an amazing job! We were welcomed as we walked in, had great, friendly service and very tasty food at a reasonable price! Shout out to our server that was working on Dec. 13, thanx!
Service left much to be desired, at times it felt like we were being straight up ignored. HOWEVER this was hands down some of the best Indian/Nepalese food we've ever had. Some joints will give you a curry bowl with like 4 pieces of chicken - not here. You get delicious curry, bursting with flavor and packed with juicy chicken breast. The curries were amazing and naan was fresh and delicious. On food alone I'd give it 5 stars, maybe we were just there on an off day. Would definitely return.
Delicious food--loved the Malai Kofta and garlic naan.
Each item is expertly cooked to order! Dining at Taste of The Himalayas was a unique and tasty treat! The owner Savant and partner Melissa were stellar, working side by side to insure the best dining experience for every guest attending during my visit there. Staffing was short, however for the quality of the food it is a MUST visit for anyone who appreciates authentic Himalayan and vegan dishes. I was immersed with the scents of Himalayan/Tibetan spices and a friendly, homelike feel that set me immediately at ease. The outside of the restaurant has the appearance of an organic family based business. The personal attention given to each diner was quite impressive as the pair, along with a bevy of cooks in the kitchen , hustled to fill "to go" and "online orders" but not too busy to see to the needs of the in-house and outside guests.
I will definitely make a return visit when in La Jolla!
In close proximity to La Jolla Cove, there exists a charming and petite Nepali/Indian eatery that presents a delectable selection of culinary delights. The service provided at this establishment is both expeditious and satisfactory, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for its patrons.
Awesome food! The naan was excellent and the mango lasses were delicious.
Tried this place for the first time for lunch with family who were visiting from out of town. Came in about 1:30 PM on a Wednesday and the food was delicious and hot. Extensive menu and nothing disappointed us. The only reason why this is a four star review and not a five star review is because of the service. We got our appetizer a little bit late then the tikka plate with nothing else. Had to wait another 15 minutes for rice and the chicken tikka masala as well as the garlic naan. By that time my chicken tikka was cold. There was only one server and three tables that were being used by customers. Our server never bothered to ask us how our food was or if we needed anything to drink. So Service definitely needs improvement and some hospitality training by management. I would definitely go back though and make sure to ask for everything at once and don’t be hesitant to flag down the server knowing that she will not be as attentive unless you ask for it. I am pretty sure that they did not mean to bring out our food as slowly as they did.
The service was excellent. Our server, Maria, was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. She was also very friendly and spoke perfect English. Thank you!
It’s nice place to have chiya (tea) and momos while enjoying the view of the ocean at La jolla. We ordered Mixed momos (that come with veg, chicken, lamb), lentil soup, badami naan ( almond, fennel seeds, cherrys etc). Everything was delicious. In fact we had lentil soup thrice! Still can’t forget that taste. Absolutely loved it. Remember they have daal tadka too but try their Daal soup!
Best Daal soup I have ever had! Great chicken korma too.
Friendly service. Will dine here again soon!
Yummy Indian food! We got the chicken korma (level 3 spicy) and it was tasty! The garlic naan and veg samosas were so fresh! Will definitely come back!
Garlic naan bread and butter chicken 🔥🔥🔥 relatively quick service compare to other restaurants in the area.
Best Indian food in La Jolla.
