We visited Mel’s on a Sunday evening. We got a place to sit almost immediately. The decor and the ambience was very beautiful. The staff was okay. Our server probably had a tough day and was a little off. We ordered the Hamburger Steak and the Chicken Steak. The steak was well done, and it was about standard. It was tasty and the sauce was creamy. The mashed potato was good. The chicken on the other hand tasted a little bland and it wasn’t too delicious. The fries needed some seasoning on them.
I liked the quirky writings above the counters, and the lighting was also in tune with the whole theme of the restaurant. A lot of people complained about the washroom, so I didn’t really take a chance. Overall, I had an okay experience.

Third time going and great service and food each time. Been there in the middle of the night after Christmas shopping, gone for lunch with coworkers, and been for dinner with the husband. Excellent service and good good each time. Had onion rings last visit and OMG they were the best.
Da Diner. Try the Chicken Fried Steak. Just about the only place in town that has it. It's good too.
Was there the Sunday before Christmas. Breakfast was good. Their hollandaise sauce was way too thick and way too much on the plate but other than that it was good. Great service and nice atmosphere.
I feel way too comfortable at Mels. This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. I love to get a nice breakfast, relax with my coffee, and chat with the workers over there. I usually go in the mornings, but even when I'd end up there late at night on a weekend, the service was always excellent., and they never have a problem with me wanting refill after refill.
Good food. Good coffee. Good service and nice atmosphere. May go back for lunch.
The best after-bar spot!. Friday and Saturday Nights after the bars close down- you will find everyone who knows what's good at Mel's. If you get there too close to 2am, the line will be out the door so try to get there early. This is all I gotta say- BISCUITS and GRAVY! It's a meal in itself.

Next-to-perfect breakfast any time of day. The waffles are awesome. Great ham club sandwich. Everything else I've ever had there is great too. Friendly, attentive staff. Some regular customers, but a wide variety of clientele. Just a place where you can go and relax and have a good, wholesome meal, and be yourself.
On the minus side, they need to replace some of the crappy torn booth seats. And they keep it very cold in there, which doesn't bother me (I'm a man), but women may not like it. Bring a sweater!
Delicious. Burger, nachos, breakfast, everything on the menu is great. One of the best restaurants in ol' Laffy.

Great drunk food. 1. They're twenty-four hours. This makes it a prime place to eat after a long night of drinking.
2. Granted the food is not absolutely amazing, but you do get what you pay for and when you're drunk, who cares?
3. The mushroom & bacon omelet is pretty awesome. It could have been the booze, but it was quite tasty.
4. For all the complaints about service, you have obviously never had Ms. Brenda. She is such a sweet woman. But really, most of those girls that are working there are really kind too. For example, there was one night we went in there and I was freezing cold and one of the servers brought me her jacket. Name another place that does that. Also, you have to figure, they put up with obnoxious, out-of-control college & high school kids on a nightly basis...
Good Good Good. Drove from Lake Charles to try this place...everything was great!!
The burger patties are huge! Go for the All American for a true burger experience. And don't forget the WETS (fries and gravy).
Corned Beef Hash and Chili Dogs. Where else can you get corned beef hash and chili dogs at 2 am? I love it!!
They can cook eggs over easy better than anybody!
Better than the kettle. Remember that? great place, open late. nice place to organize your tea party with all your crazy friends. rainbows a-plenty here. try the rainbow stew.(it's off-menu) be careful in the bathrooms though
Good food and good service. Awesome burgers and probably some of the best biscuits I've ever had.
Eggs Benedict!. Truthfully, Mel's is only okay...EXCEPT for their Eggs Benedict, which you can only get on the weekend...that dish and that dish alone is what gets me over there. They serve the poached eggs and delicious ham over their biscuits with the perfect amount of hollandaise sauce. The Eggs Benedict is what gets me over there on a weekend morning. That dish alone is worth giving them a try!
Best hash browns. Some of the best hash brown's I've ever had. Very nice flavor and texture (I order them a little bit well done).
Good Diner food. Pretty consistant.
Best cheap diner food around. I love that this place is open 24 hours. Definitely one of my favorite little spots to eat.
Late Night. Nothing spectacular, but it's one of the few places to get a late night meal. The staff is fun and colorful and the food is okay. Some people say it's a lot better when you're drunk. The milkshakes are awesome and addicting. We haven't figured out why, but they are.

Best hash browns. The best hash browns I've ever had. Excellent pancakes also. Don't expect charming wait staff, but the food makes up for it. :)
50's type dinner. Very affordable, their smoked sausage is great. I went for breakfast and it was good. The décor is retro and I love their booths and chairs. They have been in business for over 40 years I believe. Open 25/7 a definite plus
This is a place you shouldn't pass up! It's a great retro diner with neon lights and other decor that will reel you in. When you walk through the door you'll be greeted with a happy face and wonderful atmosphere. Once you find your seat at a booth or the bar, one glance at their menu will have you wanting to try a little bit of everything. I had Mel's Meat Loaf and it was amazing. I can honestly say it tasted like a homemade meal. To top off the evening I grabbed a milk shake to go and now I'm trying to decide what I want to order next time I swing by.
We absolutely loved eating here. It was worth the wait. All the food was fresh and tasted amazing. It’s one of those places you feel like slowing down the pace of life to hang out and catch up. We all ordered the Hamburger steak special and it was 10/10! I would happily recommend this dinner to all my friends and family.

Great diner fare. Retro feel. Breakfast 24 hours a day. It's great for what it is. It immediately became a family tradition for whenever my mom comes to visit. I spent many late nights/early mornings studying in one of their booths during my bachelor's degree at UL.
There is not much you can say about Mel's other than its a Great place to go for some really good food and an Awesome staff. Annette was just a fabulous waitress with an awesome smile and personality to match and very knowledgeable about the menu items. I spent 4 days here in Lafayette eating 2-3 meals a day out at various restaurants and none compared to Mel's. The quality,the selection,and the prices can not be beat. My only regret is that I did not find this place sooner. It would have saved me a lot of money and disappointment and would have been where I went for every meal. I really can't say enough about how much I like Mel's. I wish we had one in Bossier.
We fell into this place right after a couple of football games so the teens were loud and a bit hyped up. As busy as it was the food was worth the wait. I had the 2 eggs with a meat. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the eggs were very good. Summer provided great service although when I asked for cane syrup…it was a no go.
The service is amazing I took my mom there today I got chicken fried with mashed potatoes and she got the taco salad we both loved it. The reason I didnt rate it 5 stars was because one small part of my chicken fried steak was raw but I'm still gonna go back and I highly recommend going there open 24hours. :)
Best pancake you'll put in your mouth. If you get a sandwich for breakfast, get it on grilled texas toast. You'll be glad you did, regular toast was kinda disappointing. Fast service, no wait at all when we went. Prices weren't too bad and food was awesome. Probably my top 3 for breakfast anywhere. Three thumbs up on this one
Met the owner halfway through my meal. Great guy ever though his wife owns it. Our waitress was second to none and a delight. Haven't been there since 2011 but I'll be back in the hopes I get the same waitress. Fantastic.
Pretty fast service ! American diner type food, full menu all day! Love that they are 24 hrs.
The cinnamon roll was premade ;(…the grits were ok, had to add a lot of butter and salt. Coffee was weak.

We go here about once a week, so obviously we like it. It's what you would expect of a diner; low prices, good food, fast service, and a variety of options to eat. The food may not be exceptional but it is very good. You'll get enough to satisfy your appetite at a good price. An added bonus is the oldies music that is played while you dine.
Mel's Diner in Lafayette, LA... Great place overall. It was a bit on the noisy side for my preference. Food was excellent. I ate the eggs & liver w/onions. I would definitely recommend this restaurant as well as the location on Hwy 90. Our waitress was vibrant and professional. Order accuracy was 100%. Room temp was comfortable. Didn't use the facilities/restroom, so I cannot rate them.

Fair dinner food, breakfast is by far their strong suit. Sunday eggs benedict with Mel's biscuits is a delicious and filling. Service is quick and efficient, your in and out quickly, even when crowded.
This is a good little dinner very busy you will likely need to wait to even get in the door but it has a quick turn around and the food is good and comes out pretty quickly.
I’d just like to say the service and food was AMAZING. My waitress, Summer, was super sweet and was amazing. She deserves a raise I had an amazing experience and felt welcomed in the restaurant. I will be coming back and bringing friends
