Went on Saturday at 9a and there was a good selection of malasada, croissant roll, baguette, and a huge cream puff with whipped cream/mango. We ordered some items, sat to eat and then went back in for a second round. It was all very good. Went back on Tuesday before flying out and there was hardly anything available at 11. Well, at least we had the chance to try it once.
They will take advance orders the day of, wish I knew that.
We got there at 7am and were lucky enuf to get raspberry, custard and guava malasadas and they were delicious. Not too sweet and good amount of filling. The pineapple upside cake is to die for! Mac nut sticky bun was very hardy and good. Blueberry scone is good for dipping in your coffee. Nice lady at counter. Kinda hidden but worth getting up and finding.
These donuts were delicious! We tried a little bit of everything, the poi donut, croissant, jelly filled, and chocolate pastry. As you can see, I struggled to get a picture of all of them as they were so good!
A true hole in the wall in an industrial park with chickens and thrift shops and now defunct Sugar Train. Super easy to get to also.
Excellent pastries and I wish I would have found earlier. The baby pineapple upside down cake is perfect as a breakfast desert to go with Drift coffee around the corner. Sorry shameless plug.
Went for the delicious malasadas and was not disappointed! There were three filling options (vanilla, chocolate and guava) and all were tasty. Get there really early though, at 6:45 there was already a line out the door. Also make sure you have cash or venmo on hand, several people did not notice the signs and it caused a hiccup at the register. Service was friendly and genial though, would absolutely go back.
This place is awesome, been here for years and years (1970s) and its obvious the new owners are fixing it up. All that aside the breads are great, fresh and made on site. They make goods for local hotels, but have tons of great pastries, croissant, cookies, muffins and even strudel you can purchase. We took an assorted box and snacked on it the next few days and great meeting the owner Charlie Owen. Keep up the good work!
CASH/VENMO ONLY. This place is definitely a hole in the wall. It is flanked between industrial and furniture warehouses. We got several goodies: almond croissant, blueberry danish, coconut danish, and bacon/egg/cheese croissant. The breakfast croissant was made in front of me and it was the highlight for sure. There was only one person at the front when I was there so service was slow but I was in no rush. The other standout was the almond croissant. It was not double baked but it was flaky and it had almond paste inside so very strong almond taste if that’s your jam. The danishes were a bit too doughy for me. For about $17 for everything, I say it is a great deal if you are looking for a pastry fix or a great breakfast croissant.
They have a small selection of delicious donuts. They're pretty big. Also try the sandwiches, I recommend ham or bacon with egg(s) on croissant. Google Maps navigation will take you to a pretty round about way to get there and then expect you to park on the side of a busy road that's not possible. They're actually located on the other side of the building so turn in at the closest intersection and use street parking. They're cash only but also take Venmo.
Yes, CASH/VENMO only as the others mentioned. I didn’t know until it was my turn and it was a struggle. Anyways, they have good stuff here. Cinnamon twist and almond croissant had very good texture and flavor. Haven’t tried the danish yet. They have an updated menu on their website with prices.
A nice assortment of donuts, breads, and malasadas. Get there early or order ahead. Great customer service!
We picked up the amazing Shortbread cookies and experienced a Fantastic Almond Croissant!! Out of the way Gem!!!! Worth seeking out!!!
Cash/Venmo only hole-in-the-wall that makes bread and pastries for local businesses/restaurants but also sells to the public in their tiny storefront/bakery. We liked their malasadas (they make cream & guava jam; I preferred the cream, partially because it's much more generously filled), but most of their other stuff was ho-hum: scones were nice but a bit dry, and croissants were not terribly flaky (I like mine super-buttery and flaky, and I'm spoiled living near Arsicault in SF). Overall a nice place to stop for good baked goods, especially malasadas!
Really nice little local bakery that opens early for all us mainlanders that are up at 5a or so on our first few days in this paradise called Maui. I recommend the coffee cake if they have it, the muffins, and the everything but the kitchen sink pastry/muffin thing. Just ask for it, you'll like it.
I loved their upside down pineapple dessert but their malasadas were a bit disappointing. Street parking is available.
Bring cash or have venmo for payment!
We had a lunch/whale watching tour booked so we wanted a light breakfast. My husband found The Bakery. It's not in a fancy area (surrounded by car repair shop type places) and parking was a bit of a pain but we found street parking nearby.
When we first walked in I was a little disappointed that there were no tables inside. Once we saw the pastries - OMG! we were completely blown away by the quality and huge selection. The staff there is so friendly, and were told there were picnic tables outside.
We sat outside at a table with an older gentleman. He was funny and nice and told us that he and his wife started The Bakery about 40 years ago. He told us lots of stories about getting started. As the neighborhood got older and parking got more difficult, they started selling more to stores/shops/restaurants that resold it. They make over 1k of doughnuts every night. So, you can go someplace fancy and pay a lot for these or you can go to the source where the prices are surprisingly inexpensive.
The entire experience was awesome. We live on Oahu and I wish we could get his pastries here. Try this place, you may get luck and get to visit with the owner outside.
Quite possibly some of the best baked goods I’ve ever had. Went after 8 on a Tuesday and they “only” had mango cream puffs and Passion fruit eclairs. We got one of each and ordered Plain and filled (chocolate and vanilla custard) malasadas and a macadamia nut sticky bun for the next day. That cream puff was unbelievably delicious. My kids devoured the eclair, so I only got a tiny taste of yummy tart/sweetness. Came back Wednesday and picked up our goodies. The chocolate ganache filled malasada was so good, I know I’ll be craving it for a long time. Every blooming thing was incredible. The staff was super friendly and gave perfect recommendations. Ordering ahead was definitely the way to go for this girl who doesn’t want to get up so early on vacation.
Thank you for a delicious cake for a special celebration! Charlie recommended a cake with lilikoi sponge, sautéed maui gold pineapple and vanilla butter cream. They delivered a simple design for us to add flowers. Everyone absolutely loved it!
Amazing little bakery find in Lahaina! We tried th bagels, malasadas and the croissant, all were amazing! Definitely worth a trip on your stop to Maui Lahaina area!!
This was a fantastic gem of a bakery. Their pastries are amazing. When we saw a chef from another restaurant ordering bread from this bakery you know it must be good. And it wa absolutely fantastic I loved everything I had. And we came every day during our trip.
Oh by the way the owner and staff were also very friendly, thank you!
