Capt. Gus's is by far the best steak/sub shop around. Besides the great food and service it has a great local feel. So if you are tired of the same old cookie cutter type place i highly recommend the Captain's!

Had the pleasure of visiting Captain Gus's this week. Great food and conversation. The steak sandwich was full of steak, fresh onions and real cheese topped off with just the right amount of sauce and spices. eat where the locals eat and you can't go wrong. Nice experience, Nick.

As I was introduced to Pennsylvania from south Mississippi, Captain Gus was one that has kept me coming back. The fresh bread with double meat and cheese that comes straight from the grill to the table with red sauce is something I will die wanting. Sure do miss the real Gus telling his life's stories, especially about being in Biloxi, Mississippi.

I went to Capt Guys as a kid and keep going back. I would rate it a 10, but it only has a scale from 1-5.

Always a treat. Cheesesteak with onions and hot peppers for me. Memories of my Dad taking me there, loading me up with quarters to play pinball while him and the Capt. talked.

My favorite place of all time to get a cheesesteak. The fries are fantastic too. Gus was a great man and his son Nicky is always super friendly as well. The customer service here is unmatched by any other restaurant I've been to.

Best sub shop east of the Mississippi. Always fresh ingredients. Fresh rolls. Friendly owners. Steaks are good but I like the cheeseburger sub. Reasonable prices too

Great folks! Make you feel right at home, even on your first visit. Fries came out piping hot and delicious (they fry in peanut oil).šŸ‘ Now if you're a cheesesteak snob and you require a real Italian roll, don't even bother. You'll be disappointed. I was. It basically is an over-sized hot dog bun, as others have mentioned. But, if you have the capacity to appreciate the steak, cheese, sauce, and onions for what they are, you'll enjoy it nonetheless. I did.

First, the staff is incredibly friendly and nice. I had to go in and pay for seven different orders separately and they didnā€™t even bat an eye. The food was also ready in the exact time they said it would be. The cheesesteak is one of the best Iā€™ve had in Lancaster, and Iā€™m not even a marinara on a cheesesteak kind of guy. The meat was super flavorful and it had plenty of cheese. So many places really lack in the cheese department, but not Gusā€™s. The fries were a bit soggy, but letā€™s face it, I wasnā€™t there for the fries. Overall, this place is better than half the ā€œtalked aboutā€ places in Philly.

Captain Gusā€™s is a breath of fresh air in a fast casual dining scene stuffed to the brim with unremarkable chain restaurants. My cheesesteak was easily the best Iā€™ve had since moving to Lancaster 10 years ago and the staff was friendly and nice. Much like Route 66 Restaurant on the other side of town, the rundown interior may deter the uninitiated but itā€™s their loss.

Family owned establishment with a great history with the community and kids. They have endless fish stories to tell. They treat you as a family member. Very conversationable. I work a lot of Saturdays and my coworker brought me there. We go every Saturday. Thanks Stacey!

Good subs, made correctly. I sure do miss Gus coming out and sitting with us and doing magic tricks for us. He was such a nice man. šŸ˜„

Probably the last old school Philly steak/sub shop in Lancaster. Very authentic cheese steaks and subs. Everything is made to order. The cheese steaks have the classic steak, cheese, sauce and grease flavor from. Your childhood. Captain Gus's is still that neighborhood joint you can't do without.

This place is great, it was exactly what I wanted it to be after I saw it from the exterior! Don't go if you are expecting something else. Think Philly cheese steak vibe, i.e Pat's or Geno's, with granpops decor and the veteran staff that started at the place a while ago... just to get you on the same page.

Captain Gus what can I say this place is a local staple and for great reasons it's been around forever the cheese steaks are amazing if you haven't tried one stop playing around and get in there and try a cheese steak and their fresh cut fries can't forget your favorite soft drink. This place will have you bring your friends and family by its that special.

This is a great little spot that has been doing it right for years. This is a must stop if you are in the area. The steak was cooked perfectly and the bread was fantastic. Perfect to hold in all that flavor. Look this spot up and stop in. Tell them I sent you.

Captain Gus's was voted #1 for cheese steaks in Lancaster so I had to try one. It's a small place with a counter, a few booths and big take out business. They were really good and staff super friendly!

If you're in PA, you must visit this place. The outside of the building is okay, but the steak sandwich is amazing.

This must be one of the last '50's style lunch counter! Plenty of parking, tables & booths, order at the counter! Small basic sandwich menu, no frills, very reasonable prices, quick service! Cheesesteak was juicy & tasty! My only issue is that I prefer a little bit crusty roll. This roll was very soft! Old -style French fries, hot & non-greasy! Overall a nice stop in the 'hood'!

Pretty average in terms of hoagies and steak sandwiches, but an extra star because the staff are great every time I've ordered there. Not going to blow your mind, but it'll do the job. Order fries!
