Fantastic! I couldn't ask for a better bbq joint in town. The wings they have I Wednesdays are perfect as us the music on "Wu-tang Wednesdays", also I heart the burnt tips that get turnt out on Fridays!
This is not merely hands down the best barbecue restaurant in Lansing, it is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in Lansing, period. The brisket, pulled pork and chicken are ridiculously good, and the sides are simply outstanding. I would happily pay half again more for what they're charging for this food and still consider it a bargain. I cannot say enough good things about this place, and were it closer to my home or office, I would probably find myself there multiple times a week. As it is, Mrs Fred and I have taken to arranging our weekend chores so that we conveniently find ourselves in sufficient proximity around lunch time that we've started to make a habit of stopping in weekly.
Man, this is good BBQ. The sandwich is served on a Detroit made Hawaiian bun and it comes topped with a hose made slaw. I didn’t read far enough to catch the slaw before ordering, but I grabbed a fork and slid most of it off. I was still left with a moist, smoky pork sandwich that I accented with just a little bit of their sweet and spicy BBQ sauce that they have in old liquor bottles. I wasn’t really in a hurry, but I caught myself scarfing down this sandwich like I was. It was so good I didn’t want to put it down.
A great spot to stop for a bite while in Lansing. The brisket is good, but their sides are their strong point. The mac & cheese was not dried out (which most BBQ spots fail to do), and the baked beans had generous amounts of meat. I also really liked their home mustard sauce. So much so, that I bought a bottle to take home.
Absolutely delicious walked right in ,had our food ready in minutes. It was mouth watering good . I'd give it more starts if they let me. We ate outside it was the perfect weather . Everything was well thought out , the place was clean even the bathrooms☺️They had little caddy's with options to add your favorite BBQ flavors.

Saddleback BBQ catered our company lunch, and it was an absolute hit! The ribs and chicken were incredibly tasty, cooked to perfection, and the variety of sauces added a delightful twist to each bite. The Mac & cheese and side dishes were equally delicious and complemented the main courses beautifully. The entire order was delivered on time, ensuring a seamless and satisfying experience. We couldn't have asked for better food and service. Highly recommended! 👍🍖🍗🧀🌽🔥
I ordered a Thanksgiving day feast three weeks in advance and paid. My family prefers ribs over turkey… so ribs it was. I can’t pick up the meal at the Westside location, only in Reo Town because this is ribs and not turkey. I drive to Reo Town to learn there are no sides available, the food was never set aside for my order. The employee saved the day by offering a second full rack of ribs at no cost. Quick thinking on her part and very nice. Instead of heading home to spend time visiting with family out of town, I hustle to Gordon Foods, purchase the corn cake side dish, and other sides. Thanksgiving dinner was a success and wonderful left overs for all to enjoy.
Delicious BBQ, portions were very large and the meals came out quickly! It was nice to be able to sit out front at the picnic tables while eating. Brisket with tender and had a great smoky favor, sauce was not needed!
We stumbled upon this place Saturday while visiting a Thrift Store next door. Prior to this visit we knew nothing about the restaurant.
The young man behind the counter was patient, explained and described the menu and food. Made recommendations when asked. Unfortunately I'm terrible with names, but he worked Saturday morning and deserves some appreciation from his employer.
We ordered the Brisket and 1/4 Rack of Ribs. The food was delicious and of a quantity that we ate two meals from the one. The service was high quality, friendly and quick. It wasn't very busy, we sat outside and enjoyed our meal. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Tuesday’s pulled pork sandwich and fries special is a great deal. Burnt ends on Fridays. This is a good spot for small group lunch or dinner. Probably my favorite spot for bbq in Lansing area.
One of my fallback BBQ places in the Capital City. Nice smoke to their meats. If you're a "Pepper Head" like me, which is a disappoinment for my husband because most of the sides have some element of a chili pepper like jalapeño, the peppery sides give their 'Que a good compliment. Hey get there early, especially on Burnt Ends Friday, because they will run out... And quick!
Update #1: 3+ years and two stores later, Saddleback has some of the best Specials around! One of my favorite seasonal Saddleback Specials is the Smoked Lobster Roll and Lobster Bisque, offered on Fridays during Lent. I totally look forward to this every Lenten season.
Saddleback has become a uniter/cheerleader of supporting small local businesses. Definitely look out for their Specials which may involve a pairing of a local Greater Lansing food business and one of Saddleback's meats. Today's Special with East Lansing's Mitten Raised Bakery, Twice Glazed Donut and Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich, was heavenly.
Update #2 (1/20/23): Very now and then, Saddleback brings back a fave seasonal special. This time - Brisket & Chicken Pasties with homemade gravy. I opted to order two Chicken versions for work lunches. The crust was nice and flaky. The filling was quite flavorful; the blend of the smoked chicken with the diced rutabaga, potatoes, and onions, mixed well with the herbs. A nice yummy Chicken Gravy tied the crust and the filling for a comforting experience. I see why these pasties sell out very quickly.
I've been to all the BBQ places in the Lansing area and Saddleback stands above them all. The service is impeccable, very friendly staff. The BBQ ribs and brisket are smoked just right along with the seasonings/rub. Took my daughter's there today and we had a fantastic time sitting outside in the sun. Also I should add, the bathroom is modern and super clean. Something I can be picky about when reviewing a restaurant. I recommend to all who are looking for good BBQ at a fair price.
This place is great, the staff is amazing. I come here regularly for lunch and they are always incredible!
Only heard about this place thru a Facebook posting a few months back that was shared by a friend. My friend that I split basketball season tickets with and I decided we would make it a point to go there and try out the food.
Very glad that I did, and will definitely be returning. The cashier was very friendly, menu had lots of good options. I went with the 2 meat (pulled pork & brisket), Mac n cheese, and the Vernor’s sweet potatoes. All of it was very delicious. I definitely intend to try to replicate the Vernor’s Sweet Potatoes at home soon. The Sweet and Savory barbecue was so dang good that I decided to purchase a bottle of it to take home.
Definitely plan on making a stop here again in the future.
Great quality food and friendly staff. A downfall is that they’re aren’t combo options so if you’re trying to “ball on a budget”, this may not be your best place to go. Overall, being originally from Georgia- I REALLY like the brisket and sweet tea…the best I’ve had in the area for sure!
Our go to for quick and great BBQ! BETTER than the good are the owners and their commitment to the community, charity work, and their overall generosity. Don't miss the burnt ends on Fridays!
Everything was amazing! We had the pulled pork with Mac n cheese, pull pork sandwich, brisket sandwich and the baby back ribs. All came with corn cake, which was also really good.
