We stopped in for Happy Hour on Saturday. Everything was great! We had a great chat with the GM, Douglas. Everything is scratch made with quality ingredients. They have a welcoming, trendy environment. The food was delicious, and well prepared. They have a limited menu for happy hour, so be aware. It's one of the cool spots around Lansing.
Now I’ve been here a couple of times before and I have loved it every time. They are consistent with what they do and I respect that. I hold this place to a high standard which is why my scale is a bit different. They definitely deserve 5 stars but my last meal was not 5 star worthy. The burger and sides were cooked sub par and topped with a lovely bun. The smashed potatoes could have been seared a bit longer with butter and olive oil to get that crisp and seasoned heavier and would have liked fresh garlic. The burger was trying too hard to be unique and I think they failed on this one. The jam on the burger just seemed out of place and I believe there was ground mustard. it was biting into a lightly seasoned burger and a powerful jam that just didn’t pair well together. It hit warm notes and that’s just not good on a burger. Now the beer cheese was great and I loved it and could eat it straight. Now I know this might hit some people the wrong way but I’m being brutally honest and would be doing a disservice if I wasn’t. I still recommend but I do hope they change this dish or get rid of it entirely. To the PEOPLES KITCHEN! If you would like to have me back to change my thoughts on this I’d love to try another dish. Please invite me back for your redemption
Amazing brunch spot! The atmosphere is so fun and eclectic. There are unique decorations to look at all over. The food was all delicious from the coffee with house-made cream to the creative takes on classic menu items. We were a party of 6, and all our food came out quickly and just how we ordered it. Would definitely recommend this anyone! Can't wait to try other meals here.
First time visit to TPK. Had the charcuterie board appetizer (very good flavors in the meats and cheeses, and the squash blend was tasty) and an Old Fashioned (decent, not great). Our main course consisted of the roasted chicken and the lamb shank. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the tomato sauce was aromatic and a little spicy, and the brown butter dumplings were garlicky and delicious. The lamb shank was also cooked excellently (crispy bits, fall off the bone, etc.) and was not gamey at all, but didn't have much in the way of spices or other flavor outside of the meat itself. The roasted eggplant puree was pleasantly flavorful, but the apricots were very chewy. All in all, a good dining experience, but not necessarily worth the price tag.
After all the rave reviews I’ve heard, we finally tried it. And boy, did they deliver! Appetizer was blue crab fritters with cocktails—a classic vodka gimlet and a rosemary grapefruit mocktail designed by Bartender Maggie. Dinner was the gnocchi carbonara and pan fried duck breast with a glass of Montepulciano recommended by our server, Joshua. Dessert was strawberry pavlova and deconstructed apple pie. It was clear, each dish was intentionally designed so that everything complemented the main ingredient, giving us a superb visual and textural experience as well as uplifting the taste experience with each bite. The drinks were made with an experienced hand and the mocktail was a summer delight, both refreshing and nostalgic. The wine was compared to a Malbec and was a great pairing with the duck and the heavier dark sauce, while still being light enough to not overwhelm the gnocchi. The service was outstanding. We felt well looked after and even the bartender checked on us. It was a perfect date night and we look forward to coming back.
This was our first brunch and it was worth the wait! Very casual almost commercial space so don’t worry, come as you are. Eclectic atmosphere. Some of the best, kindest service I’ve received in a very long time! The only thing that impressed me more was the amazing food, everything is good taken over the top by added flair! The pancakes are amazing but the butter syrup adds; the grits are phenomenal but the corn salad puts it over the top. Go, order anything and make sure you add a cocktail!
They did great work. Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is exactly what the area needs. Trendy, hip, fun, loud. Awesome people and great food. Prices are reasonable. Great location. The quiche was delicious. Gravy is 9 out of 10! Chicken was succulent and fried to perfection. Tap beers and cocktails are solid.
Really really really good food! The only issue is that you will need to wait during their busy time. We arrived at 10:30 on Saturday for brunch, and we waited for like 25 minutes for a patio table. Their chicken and waffle was DELICIOUS!! actually, everything on their menu we got was pretty good. Price was reasonable, parking is easy. We will definitely try their dinner next time.
Stopped here for breakfast on the way up to Petoskey. All I can say is WOW! They completely ruined chicken and waffles for me because I'll never have a better one than The Peoples Kitchen. It was a breakfast masterpiece. The service was phenomenal as well. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely stop back the next time we are near.
Breakfast/brunch is delicious. The coffee is the best in town! Dinner is great too. I’ve been here many times and service is always impeccable. Vibes are great and cocktails are a hit.
People’s Kitchen is one of the better brunch places in Lansing. Very clean, lively atmosphere. Food was AMAZING, fresh strawberries, the sauce, etc. Some of the best French Toast I’ve ever had. The presentation speaks for itself. I’ll always eat here!
When I got here, I was very pleasantly greeted at the door. We were seated immediately and placed drink order swiftly. For breakfast, I order the Still Ain't Broke and it was delicious. Our waitress, Mercedes was also a pure delight. She was helpful and efficient. Couldn't have asked for a better waitress! I had a wonderful time. Thank you for the awesome experience!
This place was really good! A bit overpriced, but the vibes are real fun. I got the really fu%#ing good pancakes which were the second best pancakes I've ever had and my fiance got the shrimp and grits which he is still obsessing over days later. The raspberry Daiquiri was not very good, but our mimosas were amazing.
Edit in response to the owners feedback: I gave 4 stars for a variety of reasons I did not include because I didn't want my review to deter other customers.
I'm personally a vegetarian, I ordered what I did because it was the only thing I saw on the menu that could accommodate to my dietary restrictions. I would love to see the menu be as inclusive as the environment.
While our server was super friendly, we barely saw her. I wish she would have stopped at our table one more time to make sure we were doing okay. But it was super busy and I've worked in the service industry so I totally get it, and do not hold anything against our server. But also coming from the food service industry, I was more than alarmed when I saw another server in a different section violate numerous health code violations including handling food with bare hands, not having her hair secured, handling dirty dishes then immediately handling plates that just came from the kitchen without even washing her hands.
I also was not a fan of the raspberry Daiquiri because it was not a traditional Daiquiri as I was expecting and it was strong. Not sure if the measurements were off or something, but the flavors were fighting with each other. But that is just my preference, I'm sure someone else would like it.

Stopped for breakfast while in town on business. Will definitely come back next time I'm around, food was fantastic and atmosphere was great. Friendly staff, too!
We arrived right when they opened. Within 20 minutes the deck seating was full. The service was great and the food was wonderful. I had the Benny ( and the Jets) and my son had the Quiche Latifah.
Wow, i can’t say enough good things about this place! My husband took me here for my birthday brunch because it’s one of the only places in the area that serves mimosas. It’s a very up beat and positive environment. The wait staff are so friendly and the place is so well ran. The food was a 10/10 on taste and presentation. We were sat at the kitchen bar right in front of the kitchen and right next to where the food comes out, and the guy with the tear drop tattoo, who I’m assuming runs the kitchen was so careful about the presentation of the food and communicated beautifully with his kitchen staff. The food was fresh and the servers were on there game getting the food out so fast. The entire place was so well ran from the servers to the cooks in the kitchen and everyone was so friendly! I’m so impressed and we will absolutely be returning! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place for brunch and mimosas!
