After riding the blue ridge parkway from Georgia to staunton Virginia, we decided to take 221 south back. Just seen the parking lot and decided to take a break. Motleys was open and not busy. Excellent hospitality and service. Everyone loved their food and the price.
Great job!
Love Motleys , great BBQ and more. One of the only places open by our cabin in the mountains and we go often! If your up on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Piney Creek area stop in, you'll love it too!
Great little restaurant. Stop by and give it a try.
We love going to Motley's. Sometimes the food is better than others, but we understand that happens. The service there is always friendly. Always good and the food usually is great. We love the honey feel to the place and we love the train. I always recommend Motley's.
Good local BBQ place. My husband and I had the 1/2 rack of ribs. Good late lunch after a day of hiking.
Tasty and juicy ribs and chicken. Fried pickles have a good spiced batter. Dipping sauce is good. Fried okra is decent. Onion rings are also good. Pulled pork was ok but would have preferred it juicier. Don’t get french fries unless they are served steaming hot or they go mealy before they get lukewarm. Not impressed with the rolls.
This place has been serving Alleghany County for many years and has continued to provide good food for a reasonable price. Service was very good and pleasant. My only issue is the use of disposable plastic plates and flatware.
Excellent service, tasty onion rings served with a homemade ranch sauce, biggest BBQ & slaw sandwich I've ever had!!! Truly a hidden secret of tasty food in Laurel Springs, NC. So glad we were able to eat inside! Next time will leave room for their homemade cobbler!! 😄
Awesome and very friendly waitress. Best BLT I've ever eaten. Loved the decor of raw cut wood. Plus who could resist the awesome train and caboose that goes the full length of the restaurant. How cool is that...
We've been to Motley's a few times, but since it's over a hour away from where we live we don't go enough! However every time we go it's always delicious and the service/servers are always friendly and eager to help! This particular time my wife got the "Jethro" burger (she's a big NCIS and Gibbs fan). The burger consists of a large hand pattied fresh burger, onion rings, mayo, and their bbg sauce. It was definitely a mouth full and very flavorful. She gave it high reviews! I tried their grilled chicken plate with fried okra and backed potato. The chicken filled up the large part of the plate and was roughly 1/2 inch thick. It was super juicy and tasted very fresh and grilled to perfection. The fried okra here is just as good as grandma makes it(please don't tell her lol) and always one of my go to sides!!! The baked potato was decent sized and came with butter and sour cream and was perfectly cooked. I can honestly say we've never had anything bad here and love going when we can. They also have fresh cobbler with ice cream that's very good and also their hot fudge cake dessert is good as well. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area. You won't regret it. One piece of advice though, get there before the 5 o'clock rush because they fill up fast! After eating you can sit on their front porch in rocking chairs and enjoy the fresh mountain air and scenery.
Great BBQ, chicken or pork, great homemade finger licking sauce, other menu items also available, reasonable prices, cozy atmosphere, overall great place to eat.
Sad to report that they will be shutting down the 1st weekend in December, their last day will be the 4th. Gonna miss some of the best food around.
We were staying in Laurel Springs at an AirBnB and this was the closest restaurant in the area. Overall, there were some good things and some not so good things. We had 3 people order so we got to try a lot and here's what to order and not:
Good Main Dishes:
Ribs are incredible, fall off the bone, smothered in a delicious BBQ sauce
Half or whole chicken was also great - moist and flavorful, fall off the bone
Bad Main Dishes:
Chopped chicken looked pretty gross, lacked color and was dry, more like shredded chicken. Not worth getting.
Grilled chicken was fine, nothing to write home about.
Sides - most were incredible especially the rolls (fluffy and perfect)
Gotta get the fried pickles (really great seasoning and crispy), potato salad (it was not too mayo-heavy and it tasted fresh), baked apples were great and not too sweet, fried okra was so delicious.
Only sides that didn't stand up to the rest were the green beans (canned and bland) and the sweet potato fries (weird that they added cinnamon).
Motley's is a cute little country restaurant. The food is amazing! I recommend the grilled chicken breast. I was amazed at how cheap the prices were! The staff are always happy and take good care of you. This is a great place to stop after church on Sunday morning!
