Sylas & Maddy's is an institution in Lawrence, known for its Rock Chock Jayhawk ice cream which has sweet cream ice cream, fudge pieces, fudge swirl and brownies. So I saw that ice cream flavor, but then I saw a bunch more. That led me to their five-scoop sampler. Perfect. So in addition to Rock Choc Jayhawk, I got gold dust, cookie dough, salted caramel and another with caramel. What's your favorite ice cream flavor? hoc.
If you want incredibly fresh, delicious ice cream than look no further. They have a massive selection of flavors. When you walk in your nose is greeted with the scent of hand made waffle cones cooking. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Duh!. Insert whatever praises you can think of for an ice cream place here: it's absolutely delicious. It's also located perfectly for you to grab a cup or cone after dinner and stroll down Mass street; perfect summer treat! And Tuesdays are buy-one-get-one for students.
Best ice cream I've ever had!!!. I have to get ice cream here every time I'm in Lawrence, it's that good!! It's locally-owned and their homemade ice cream is rich, thick, and bursting with flavor (my mouth is watering just thinking about it!). I've actually planned around the hours of operation before to make sure I can get my fix!
The flavors offered, many unusual ones you can't find anywhere else, are listed/drawn on a huge chalkboard on the wall. Since they make their ice cream fresh right there, flavors change and some rotate seasonally, but every one I've tried has been out-of-this-world delicious. They put a malted-milk ball in the bottom of each cone: a delicious surprise! This place is a MUST for anyone!! YUM!!!!
Tip: An extra-small (mini) scoop here is plenty for one person, and get it in a cup instead of a cone for less calories. A single scoop in a cone is a delicious binge, but that's the biggest size one person would want to order!
On my road trip last weekend, I made sure to stop at one of my favorite ice cream shops: Sylas and Maddy’s. What makes it a favorite? It’s a small town shop that has homemade ice cream. There is a cornucopia of flavors. If you can’t find a flavor here you like, you should seek professional help.
Amazing homemade ice cream with thoughtful touches and a huge selection.
The good: huge selection and superb tasting ice cream. They place a chocolate malt ball in your cone to not let ice cream go down into it, genius!
The meh: this place is not a secret, expect a line.
The bad: if you cannot have dairy you will be disappointed in their non dairy options
Many flavors of ice cream and the staff are always very sweet! This place is well known and popular, so you will most likely have to wait. But it will be worth it! However, very very few non-dairy/vegan options. No vegan/dairy-free ice cream unfortunately, but there are a couple of sorbets/sherbets (I know at least one of them is vegan, can't remember which) Would really love to see some vegan ice cream come up here!
The best ice ever! Every trip to Lawrence deserves a stop here! The whole place smells of freshly made waffle cones (or waffle bowls). There are so many wonderful choices and varieties of ice cream. The hardest thing is choosing what you want!
Best ice cream shop in Lawrence on Mass St.! The store is clean and the service was fast and efficient. The ice cream tastes like it's made with good quality ingredients and not the standards fare of ingredients and combinations. It's been a while since I've been to the Olathe location, but I'd say it's just as good.
The ice cream is extremely delicious.
I believe they make the ice cream on site & I've seen staff making waffle cones.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, they also accommodate really strange special requests from young children.
The prices are very low.
Competition to the north (Cold Stone Creamery) & south (Dairy Queen) charge significantly more & have very poor staff.
Awesome homemade ice cream very fairly priced. I love the 5 different flavors mini scoop option!! The surprise at the bottom of the waffle cones is also brilliant to reduce any ice cream leaking from the cone!
