When I lived in Lawrence, Fort Harrison was still an active Army fort. In the 28 years since, it has transformed into a nice Indiana State Park and an eclectic blend of shops, apartments, and restaurants.
One of the eclectic places is Cafe Audrey at the Fort. A two-room restaurant, with great food, great service, and great coffee.
I left the fetching Mrs. Rat in Ohio and ventured west to my roots, and to hook up with my mom, dad, sister, and brother-in-law for lunch. Cafe Audrey was suggested and I am glad it was. The endless coffee bar was exceptional. There were four coffees, one decaf, one dark roast, one light roast and one medium roast. Since I was returning to Ohio later that afternoon, I sampled (read, consumed) four large mugs, one mug each of light & medium, and two of the dark. Since I was in Indiana, I had to order the pork tenderloin sandwich. Instead of a bun, I had it on marbled rye toast. I was pleased to find that the rye had seeds, you usually don't find this in marbled rye. Mustard, onion, lettuce and tomato rounded out the sandwich.
The house harvest slaw is fantastic, apple vinaigrette dressing, kale, broccoli, red cabbage, brussels sprouts, apples, and dried cranberries make up a fresh and delicious side.
The onion rings were good, they were hot and fresh!.
Other dishes served and given rave reviews were; Reuben & fries, Deep Fried Fish sandwich, Five Cheese melt, BLT, & BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger.
Our server was great. He had a good sense of humor and was able to put up with my 84-year-old parents, and their very old-school ways.
I've noticed other reviews saying the place is too small, too noisy, lousy service, bland food, etc. I've also seen people complain they can't get a drink there. Too bad, it is a great place for anyone, single, couple, family etc. If you can't go without a drink at lunch, perhaps you need to cut back. I'm not sure we all were reviewing the same place. I don't have a negative thing to say about it.
