Reviews Cafe Audrey At The Fort

When I lived in Lawrence, Fort Harrison was still an active Army fort. In the 28 years since, it has transformed into a nice Indiana State Park and an eclectic blend of shops, apartments, and restaurants.

One of the eclectic places is Cafe Audrey at the Fort. A two-room restaurant, with great food, great service, and great coffee.

I left the fetching Mrs. Rat in Ohio and ventured west to my roots, and to hook up with my mom, dad, sister, and brother-in-law for lunch. Cafe Audrey was suggested and I am glad it was. The endless coffee bar was exceptional. There were four coffees, one decaf, one dark roast, one light roast and one medium roast. Since I was returning to Ohio later that afternoon, I sampled (read, consumed) four large mugs, one mug each of light & medium, and two of the dark. Since I was in Indiana, I had to order the pork tenderloin sandwich. Instead of a bun, I had it on marbled rye toast. I was pleased to find that the rye had seeds, you usually don't find this in marbled rye. Mustard, onion, lettuce and tomato rounded out the sandwich.

The house harvest slaw is fantastic, apple vinaigrette dressing, kale, broccoli, red cabbage, brussels sprouts, apples, and dried cranberries make up a fresh and delicious side.

The onion rings were good, they were hot and fresh!.

Other dishes served and given rave reviews were; Reuben & fries, Deep Fried Fish sandwich, Five Cheese melt, BLT, & BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger.

Our server was great. He had a good sense of humor and was able to put up with my 84-year-old parents, and their very old-school ways.

I've noticed other reviews saying the place is too small, too noisy, lousy service, bland food, etc. I've also seen people complain they can't get a drink there. Too bad, it is a great place for anyone, single, couple, family etc. If you can't go without a drink at lunch, perhaps you need to cut back. I'm not sure we all were reviewing the same place. I don't have a negative thing to say about it.

It feels like home to me. We've lived within 5 miles of the former blacksmith's building for over 25 years. We visited "Cafe Audrey" a couple of times in the past and was disappointed with the food, the service and the owner who was clearly more interested in dealing with family issues..kids..husband etc then the restaurant. When we learned in August it had changed hands we gave it another try. We stopped in for breakfast on our way to the Ft Harrison State Park to walk. Since then we've had breakfast there every Sunday but one.
The food is great every time and its wonderful to go somewhere that appreciates loyalty! The owner Tammy is wonderful, the wait staff Paula, Seth, Megan and our favorite Missy is beyond compare. They know our names, what we drink and our food preferences. We love the neighborhood feel and the Fort Harrison area. There was a recent post from a couple longing for the former restaurant, we were two tables over from them that Sunday morning. My perception of their experience was quite different. Tammy actually brought them there food and the woman looked "sour" through her entire visit and meal. If you're not happy then leave, go somewhere else or let them know the food wasn't good. Don't behave in a passive/aggressive manner on a review website. This is how these folks make a living. By the way, the Cafe Audrey hosted our 25th Wedding Anniversary, catering it etc on November 22, 2014. It was a private party for 50 and everyone loved the food, Tammy the owner and Paula our wait staff superstar. So glad to be regulars of your restaurant and having our big evening at your place.

Audrey's is a quaint little joint tucked back in Fort Ben that ever disappoints. I've tried just about everything, and especially love Norris' Breakfast Hash, the breakfast burrito, Huevos Rancheros and the quiche. The place always caters to my kiddo, and the staff is always friendly. Audrey's is usually my go-to spot when friends come to my part of town for a breakfast visit. All in all, A+.

We'll be back!. Thanks to Groupon, we found this place. Breakfast was great, so we went back for lunch several days later. Service was good. Love the feel of a non-franchise restaurant.

Fast, friendly service. Well-prepared breakfast basics - we love their biscuits and pancakes. Quaint, casual décor and very reasonable prices.

Great Breakfast. Quaint little place with nice decor. Service was fast and friendly, but did not feel rushed. Had the biscuits and gravy - I'd give it a 4 our of 5.
Definitely a nice non-franchised place. I am anxious to try other menu items and will go again.

Interesting new spot. This little dining spot in the old Blacksmith Shop at Ft. Benjamin Harrison will, I think, be very good. The coffee was superb! The food that we had was very good and the food we saw looked very yummy--huge breaded tenderloins and BLT's loaded with bacon. The service was fine, not outstanding but fine--very friendly, but a bit disorganized. The menu seems a bit limited yet and can use improvement but they've only been open a few months. I think more home-baked items would be a nice addition. The biscuits and gravy were very good. All in all, a good solid B. We will be back and hope to see improvements!

I love this place. Service is great and the food is delicious. I've had good burgers and sandwiches. Not a big fan of the fried chicken. The atmosphere is quaint and tidy. Give it a try!

Blue cheese burger was fantastic. Breakfasts are really good too. Locally owned, so they need our support. Sure new restaurant is still tweaking menu and adjusting staffing. Perhaps Clay should go to McDonalds.

Do yourself a favor and go to the Fort. For non residents that would be Fort Benjamin Harrison ; former Finance Center for the whole U.S.Army . Now that it is no longer a functioning Federal Post, it is home to a few commercial enterprises. To me, possibly the finest of them all is Audrey’s at 9134 Otis Avenue. It’s not a large place and it is only open for breakfast and lunch so if you decide to go don’t dawdle. It strikes me as the kind of joint that opens to a crowd and keeps hopping ’til 3:00. The menu isn’t ” cutting edge or avant-garde” it is  typical American Cafe. However if what Pat and I ate are representative their preparation is far from typical. The mozzarella sticks were your typical IQF variety; but in addition to the “normal” variety they offered a spicy variety which we really liked. It was a nice change from the more bland stick. Now normally I am not a real big fan of fried fish . But for some reason I had a “hankering” for some fried fish. I could get it as a sandwi
