Besides home cooked Lao food that's made to our taste, this is the place we now call our homecooked Laotian place. We love the flavors here compared to the saltier Laotian place on PIB and 285. Cute little place a little outside of downtown Lawrenceville but super easy to get to situated inside of an unassuming dead looking shopping center/mutli ethnic converted churches? Yes sound weird but true.
Can't have enough about the sampler platter, a must for the first timer to all the different bites. The chicken wings are marinated over night and fried to a nice crisp and not overly dry like typical wings. The beef jerky is definitely jerky and need some chewing but flavor is on point without being too salty and overbearing. I wasn't as impressed with the crispy pork since I can see getting too chewy if not eaten right away when brought to the table. The papaya salad at mild had a nice spice to it, I would of gone with medium or regular spice but that would killed the wife. She loved it so much that we bought another order to take home.
On to the noodles. The Lao chicken noodle soup is all I want from now on when you mention chicken noodle soup. The homemade noodles had a nice chew and the thick broth was in deed chicken. The Lao lad na also has homemade flat rice noodle but the dish itself needed more noodles. Recommend adding some acid to it, hence the spicy vinegar that accompanied it. Dish was full of all the main components which were superb and reminded me of a Chinese dish but way better and lighter. I'm definitely eating this dish later on top of white rice.
Sleeper dish was the crispy rice salad. My wife couldn't stop eating even when we still had the dessert sampler to try out. It's not a salad as you think, but crispy rice with ham, peanuts, coconut spices and others sitting on top of lettuce. Grab a piece of lettuce and stuff it with some of this rice and you can't go wrong.
Dessert trip provided a great taste of all the dessert choices. Combining the savoring coconut puffs with the coconut gelato was out of this world.
We tried more then 70% of the menu and will come back for more.
Soft opening event.
Small intimate restaurant, menu offers a variety of original laos food. All of authentic quality, though some items could use some refinement. Service was excellent. Wait time for food was minimal.
Great little spot to stop by and grab some yum yum! Plenty of parking but it's a little drive away from Atlanta but you'll want to get the combo plate and combo desert plate as well! It will be worth the drive plus if you're about that sapp life then it's all good! We ordered combo plate (Lao sausage, crispy pork belly, bun noodles, sticky rice, chicken wings, and cabbage), nam khao(crispy rice salad with fermented pork), lad nad (sticky stir fried flat rice noodle), and their famous yummy dessert combo (you'll have to go try it to know)! I'll be back next time I get a chance to go that way!
This little sexy southeast asian cusine blends in with the rest of the half abandon (or half occupied) store fronts in Lawrenceville's most high-end luxurious strip mall located on Grayson Hwy.
The owner along with the staff are terribly friendly, with smiles ear to ear accompanied by enthusiastic conversations. The rustic asian decore, low lighting and retro sexy-new-wave music made it felt cozy and intimate even among bros.
I was super stoked that water came in bottles and not off tap, because I enjoy showing off my musculine muscles when twisting off a stubborn bottle cap. I also beleive you can really impress other guests by crushing the plastic bottle in your hand, a show of bravery and heroic strenght! So thank you Laos Street Food for a glorious opportunity to enjoy that bottled water.
There is a soft menu with limited items, and honestly I prefer that! Makes a hangry person like me happy. I do not enjoy reading hundreds if not thousands of options on a menu. To be honest, I don't enjoy reading at all like the rest of America, I only read pictures.
In addition, the waitress was quite helpful and happy about our names. Food started filling up our table just minutes after we placed our order. I recall I barely got very far in my Kirby Vaccum presentation. The food is delicious, served on fresh banana leaves. I don't recommend eating the banna leaves, please resist if you can.
If you request for the papaya salad to be mildly spicy, expect it to be "Death-Wish-Spicy", or maybe my enemies just happen to work in the kitchen. Regardless, the wings, sausages, chicken laab, and soft boiled chicken eggs are pretty tasty. However, the porkbelly really excercised my jaw, it was tough chew but since I barely work out my jaw it was fine.
In conclusion, I like it and if you want to like it too, you should consider Lao Street Food for your next food adventure in Luxurious Lawrenceville (until they move to Duluth).
This place is a wonderful place to go of you want some delicious food! Everything is so flavorful and beautifully presented. The crispy rice salad is my absolute favorite. I could eat it every day if I could. It is crip, flavorful, and too easy too eat. I enjoy that you can request different levels of spice for the majority of the dishes. I highly recommend the Taste of Laos if you want to try a little of everything. The desserts are also so fresh and decadent. The mango sticky rice is to die for. Their sugar cane juice is super refreshing as well. I always to go some because it's such a great treat to have though the day. The vibe of the restaurant is nice and cozy. I have been here twice now, and my sever for both was Skyler. He is nice, courteous, attentive, and hosts such a welcoming energy! Highly recommend this place.
Atmosphere was great. The inside is nicely decorated with repurposed furniture and wooden palettes. We ordered the Laos platter and iced coffee. Everything tasted amazing and accurate! The water is also infused with cucumber and mint and tasted very refreshing! The server was also very attentive and friendly. Definitely will be returning!
Very good! Basil fried rice was awesome...
Just finished eating here. Great food. If you are looking for something different but seemingly authentic then you will be pleased with this restaurant. I've been coming to Lawrenceville for over 10 years and the meal here was one of the best meals I've had. Chicken noodle soup was fantastic. Lao lad na was great as were the egg rolls. The mango sticky rice was quite tasty. Will definitely return in the future.
