Great food! First time having true Kansas city BBQ and luckily had a friend who lives near this place that suggested it to meet at as we traveled thru. Had the bun and fries and it was so good! Staff was really friendly, welcoming and attentive. Also 75th anniversary so make sure and stop in for a great meal!
Beef! Mixed plate, short end, crispy fries, to STAY! Delicious brisket sandwich, great ham!! Tasty short ends! Decent BBQ, 5-8min wait.
The hype is real! Gates Mixed Plate is some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had!
Picked up carry out last night. Best short end I’ve had in years. However, I got two yammer pies, which I have enjoyed often. They are now smaller (a lot) and they have increased in price to $5.50 each! Seriously? That has to be a vendor issue!
Other than that disappointment, they still have the best Q in town. Been a loyal customer for over 40 years. I’ll be back.
Wow! Super packed on Christmas Eve! The turkey was the star of the mixed plate! So tender & juicy! Some of the best smoked Turkey I’ve had in a while. Fries were hot & fresh. I wasn’t crazy about the potato salad. Our cashier was nice. It may be better to call ahead to avoid the long line.
Gates Bar-B-Q is truly the best BBQ in KC! They always provide the best of service and the "beef on bun" is always delicious. I've visited all the different Gates locations around the the Kansas City metropolitan area, and they are always consistent in their wonderful food and service. Thank you!
The meat is great, but it’s not my favorite BBQ sauce in town.
When you get to the restaurant to order there will be one line that goes back past the front door; as you get closer to the front it will split into two going left and right. When you are a few people back from the counter a worker will call out to you and ask what you’re ordering, you only need to tell them the meat at this point, you’ll order your sides drinks and a pie when you get up to the counter (make sure you get a pie, they are awesome). If you are eating there grab a tray, if you are taking it out don’t grab a tray. If you are still back in the single line when they call out what meat you’re ordering, which ever side took that order is the line that you should stick to.
This place is really authentic, the food is great, and even when it’s busy the line moves pretty fast.
If you live here and you have guest from out of town this is for sure a place that you need to bring them
