Though I am not Irish, I have several friends who are and I'm told that this is the real deal. This place is hopping particularly on St Patrick's Day but a great place to come and have a pint with your mates!
We are going to be regulars here now. Friendly staff for one. The staff are also constantly scanning for customers with needs while they interact with other customers. Very relaxing atmosphere. Great Irish Whiskey, Scotch, Bourbon, beer line-up to meet your needs. Indoor and outdoor seating. Thamks for everything.
This is a classic mainstay of the downtown Lexington social scene. It's always exactly what you expect it to be, no pretense and no baloney. The back patio is an awesome place to hang on warm evenings, too. This is the go-to place for drinks and mingling.
Love going to McCarthy's. Great atmosphere and usually a good crowd. I'm not a bar person but this place reminds me of my time in England.
A Staple in Lexington! My favorite place to visit whether it's to relax out back on the patio or party it up on the weekends, McCarthy's is by far best bar in town 👍🏻 And you can't leave without experiencing an authentic Irish Car Bomb 🍀
Best Irish bar in Lexington period!!! Great staff, awesome patio, and cheap drink....
My husband attended the St Patty's Day weekend there in the years between 2013-2015, traveling the 3 hours from Ohio..He raves about it and this year he is driving from our home in upstate NY (700 miles)..5 star in his opinion...
Love, love this placeďż˝ we come here often, great outside area and great people.
Fantastic freindly authentic Irish pub. Definitely be going back in October
good cold beer hot food next door with a little Irish store in the middle
Such a fun bar to visit while in Kentucky! Must stop place to see old history on horses racing.
Best pub in Kentucky. The only place to watch the Rugby.
Great bar, love the relationship with horse racing. Peter behind the bar was great and very welcoming.
I really enjoyed my visit to this little gem of a bar. It was a little dated and could use a refresh, but the bartender was warm and welcoming. The drinks were solid and reasonably priced. Had great conversation with a few of the regular patrons. Try a hot Irish whiskey, it's Ireland's answer to a hot toddy. So good. Next time I venture to Lexington, I will definitely plan a stop at McCarthy's.
Great service and atmosphere! It's perfectly located next to the Marriott hotel as well.
McCarthy’s is definitely the quintessential Irish bar in town. Not O’Neill’s or Lynaugh’s, although there’s nothing wrong with either of those spots. McCarthy’s is just better, plus it’s three bars in one! I love having Magner’s and Guinness on draft. They’re always open crazy early for rugby and soccer games. They only have two TVs in the main bar, but that’s usually more than enough. They also have a TouchTunes jukebox, which tends to be a little quiet most of the time. Their best kept secret is the massive back patio that spans the length of the building and is divided up into little cabanas. Definitely more of a college vibe on the weekends.
This place is a Lexington staple. Just know what you're getting. It's a college bar that is frequented by people of all ages. But if you want quiet and Uber clean, this isn't that place. But it's huge and has a cool outdoor space, and the drinks and service were awesome. Fun atmosphere for game watching or just socializing.
Great Irish bar. Both locals and travelers alike are welcome for a cold drink.
The temple bar of Prague - great for a laugh, a cry and a heart to heart, especially with the endearing bar staff (Roc in particular XD)
Lot of local flavor. Definitely not a chili's vibe so if you are ok with that a great place to get a beer
