From the chicken liver to their version of Chicken and biscuits (foie grais on a biscuit with sausage gravy and maple syrup) to the turkey leg with sweet tea brine then perfectly smoked, the food is extraordinary. Don't go for the seen. Don't go for the ambience. It's about the food and they know that!! $35 corkage.

One of the best exploration of offal I've ever had. Deliciously decadent. I will definitely be revisiting this place again in near the future.

Amazing food! Excellent flavor combinations. We had multiple dishes that part of the experience is mixing everything on the plate together to get all the flavors together. That was fun. Great service. Semi-casual ambiance. Highly recommend!

Great lil’ hipster restaurant. Honest take: they could simplify the ingredients count in some dishes. The bone marrow dish had too much going on. No need for balsamic glaze, especially co side ring the dish was served with a chimichirri. Bone marrow is decadent by itself. You could not taste the marrow because it was overwhelmed by everything else. The bone burger is A+. It’s brilliantly served with rye bread and cooked to perfection. On the menu, everything sounds amazing however you expect the dish to be very rich, however it was very balanced and perfectly executed. Carrot dish was fantastic- lots of wonderful spices. Great wine selection too. Overall, a great dining experience, super friendly staff.

Fantastic dinner. Great service at the bar. A bit pricy but worth it for special occasions. 18% Service is included but they have an option to leave a bit extra.

A delicious, meat-centric, casual dinner in the middle of the Fairfax District by the owners of Jon and Vinny’s and Petit Trois. Animal has been on my list for quite some time and due to it being closed from Covid for quite a while I had not had the chance to try it until it’s reopening this May. Last night I finally got to give it a try and I was very happy that I did so. As I mentioned before it’s in the Fairfax District so it’s a very busy part of LA filled with tourists and out of towners, and parking can be a hassle because it’s not possible to park in the neighborhood without a pass, so street parking or valet will be your only options. Our server James did a terrific job and made the meal a better experience. It’s tapas style dining so they suggest each person order 3 to 4 items. We were a table of two and chose six total, plus a dessert, and it was the perfect amount for us. We started with the Hamachi Tostada which was light, filled with flavor, and the only seafood option on the menu. Next came the Chicken Liver Toast which was very good and definitely the smallest dish that we ordered. I prefer pâté myself and this was a more tame version of that. Next came the Lettuce, Beets, Avocado Salad and it was probably my second favorite dish of the night. The creamy sumac dressing with it was heavenly. Next was the Roasted Bone Marrow with chimichurri and it too was very tasty. I prefer my bone marrow crispier as this one was a little more jiggly and fatty but the flavor was still wonderful. Bone marrow is something I order as often as possible so it’s a dish I eat quite often. Following that came my favorite dish of the night: the Crispy Pig Ear. My palate did not even know what I was eating and I was pleasantly surprised with every bite. It was the highlight of the night. Finally we chose the Bone Burger which was a gooey, more of a patty melt type of burger with a copious amount of cheese and sauce. For dessert we chose the Tres Leches Cake with strawberry and I think it’s honestly the best Tres Leches I’ve ever had in my life and growing up in San Diego I’ve had quite a few so that’s saying something. Overall a terrific meal with a very creative and delicious menu. This would not be for the vegan or vegetarian diner, or a business meal, but honestly it’s perfect for anything else and if it weren’t for the location I would go all the time. I definitely plan to be back in the future.

14 years and a pandemic later, this iconic restaurant is still serving flavorful dishes, such as the chicken liver toast (now spread-it-yourself), the tomato-tonnato, the 3S anchovies (Salty & So Satisfying), the fried sweetbreads, and the light and instagrammable strawberry tres leches. Small but relevant selection of wines and sake, along with some interesting cocktails. Setting is elegantly simple. Super friendly staff. Well, an institution which deserves to remain one.

• A note on grades, a rate outwards from three stars. * We had dinner for three late on a Sunday in October, 2022. Service was great at accommodating one of our party's gluten allergy, composing a shared offer, and recommending pairings. Although we were among the last to leave, we never felt rushed. The food was good; worth a visit.

All dishes were creative. Not a few of them using Japanese cuisine idea, ingredients or food products. I was happy with all dishes we ordered but sometimes felt too salty. Also, their wine collection was good.

Love this place when I get in town. Small plates were perfect for the three of us. Foie gras was amazing and of course the bone burger is always a must order

Wonderful food, the boniata yams were my favorite but the peas and gnudi were also phenomenal. The poutine and burger were good, but definitely bottom of my list amount all the dishes I ate.

It’s a cool place! Servers are friendly and professional. I feel like they change their menu daily as I saw the date on the menu paper. We got the special truffle toast that cost $33, but it’s so good! The roasted turkey leg is fun and delicious as well! Not a big fan of the poutine as it’s too salty for me. We did not make a reservation so we sat at the bar, where they do the wine glasses cleaning and drying stuff. It’s a bit too noisy. Over all it’s a super nice restaurant on Fairfax. :)

Absolutely enjoyed our brunch here. The space is spare and modern but naturally well-lit. The service was informed charismatic. Only have beer and wine, however, how we the selection is varied and esoteric. We adored the bodega sandwich, the avocado toast was my favorite ever. The cheese and chorizo was a melty delight while the poutine was a rich, unctuous revelation. The hamachi tostada was a perfect counter with its sharp acidity, salty, sweet and fatty notes. While we didn’t think we could eat anymore, the cheesecake pudding guava passion fruit graham was the highlight of the meal: cool and cold; creamy and crunchy; sour and mildly sweet. Highly recommended.

The chicken liver toast is worth the hype. The brioche toast is 10/10. Will only eat pate on brioche toast now. Also had the crispy pig ear, bone marrow chimichurri, grilled shrimp, and bone burger. Flavors were excellent (loved the bone marrow) - burger and shrimp were good but nothing notable. Overall the food is excellent (great flavors and unique styles). The atmosphere is not my favorite (feels like a lunchtime sandwich shop) and very loud.

Animal deserves a 5 star review! One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in LA. To be honest, the menu had interesting flavor combinations that I wasn’t sure about... but it was amazing in every way. Can’t wait to come back here! It’s been on my bucket list for awhile and I’m elated I had the opportunity to try it. Ambience was chill. Loved the hip hop playing in the background and their service was great. Favorite menu items were foie gras biscuit, sweetbreads and pig ears. Unique, distinct flavors that just work well together. Now just thinking of another excuse to come visit again...

I eat at every new restaurant in LA and yet Animal is one of the very very few that I will return to on a several-times a year basis. I accidentally walked into Animal on opening night 10 years ago and I have been one of their most loyal customers ever since. I must say the innovation and bold flavors here make it, in my opinion, the pound-for-pound best meal in LA. If you're adventurous, the pig ears are fantastic. The Boner Burger (off menu) is the best burger I've ever had and the Turkey Leg makes me never want to have turkey anywhere else. No joke, these guys have ruined thanksgiving for me. The turkey leg is unreal. Also the pork belly sliders are just insane. pretty much anything on the menu is phenomenal. GO GO GO GO GO. Don't bother with anywhere else. And the cheese cake pudding with Guava ice is one of the better desserts you'll have in your life. I could go on and on with this place. It's THAT good and THAT innovative with it's offerings.

Animal has been one of my favorite restaurants in L.A for the past 5 years. While this is a great place for the Carnivore and as much as I have indulged my carnivorous sensibilities here, the irony is that my favorite dish here is the Tres leches! It's the most moist & sweet Tres leches I have ever had and it gives me a foodgasm every single time. While that was the standard order I placed for my dessert, decided to explore the rest of the menu this time. It didn't go as well as I would have liked. I will be staying away from the oxtail poutine in the future, found it a bit too heavy and the tamago scramble was ok. The Prawns though was absolutely stunning and the chicken liver toast was outstanding 👌!!
