My first time trying Ethiopian food and was very satisfied. The variety of flavors is awesome, every dish has it's own distinct taste and texture. The beer was an added bonus. Highly recomended, very pleasant atmosphere, amazing food with great friends.
Absolutely delicious good customer service nice restaurant environment I super recommend this place
Good fish meal great veggi and good food altogether.
Best food ever! One of my husband's and my favorite places to dine. The food is delicious! You eat with your hands to put you closer in touch with nature and you share your food on one platter because food is love and is meant to be shared and enjoyed with your loved one(s).
I have been eating at Merkato for over 10 years, I looooove the meat and veggie combo! A huge round dish of deliciousness! Price is great! And the waitresses are always beautiful and pleasant!
Great food. Awesome place to take a date. The dulet and the veggie platter are to die for.
This was my first time having Ethiopian food and I loved it!
I absolutely Love Merkatos!!! The best Ethiopian food!
Will definitely visit again! Food was delicious and the ambiance and service were 👍🏻!
With affordable, amazing food, decor, and a friendly staff, it's hard to ask for more from any restaurant. Try the lentil sambusa, and get ready to eat with your hands!

Just wonderful. You need to come here. Great food. Good service.
Fantastic, authentic Ethiopian restaurant we visited on the Ethiopian national holiday and the food and atmosphere was great! Caught up with my brothers and last year. I went there with my brother and a girlfriend, just fantastic food, and don’t forget to stop at the corresponding adjacent store.
So good!! My wife and I hadn't tried this one yet. So glad we did! The lamb & beef and veggie combos served on injira bread were showstoppers! Delicious!
The service and atmosphere are warm and friendly. This place is a star in Little Ethiopia.
Very nice ambient. Food was good. Service was ok. They do serves alcohol. I loved the decorations.
My first time eating Ethiopian food, I have to say the meat was delicious but the bread or the flat dough like bread was good but cold, not sure it’s supposes to be cold. But overall was a great experience.
Great food, great service. Attached to a market where they sell honey wine, soaps and fragrances, and other small goods. Folks there were friendly and gave us recommendations because we had never tried Ethiopian food before. Best to come with a few people so you can sample multiple different dishes.
We had an amazing experience here. Ethiopian food was very good!
Highly recommend it.
delicious food and nice decor inside. honey wine vegetable platter and beef tibs
Been coming for over a decade! It's now our family tradition and my oldest child's favorite place to feast. Food is always HOT and FRESH! Prices have increased but that's to be expected over the years especially with California (a different topic). Favorite dishes are fish plate, chicken Tibbs, veggie plate, and kitfo (slightly cooked).
Enjoy 😉
I got the trout and number 18. It was busy when I went on a Wednesday night and there was only one server. She was nice but it did take longer to order my food. The food was very good and it was my son's first time trying to eat with only his hands and he seemed to adjust well. I really like trout and the reviews said the trout was good so I'm glad it didn't disappoint.
Loved this place.
Great service. Went on a quiet Tuesday afternoon early dinner. Found parking on the street nice 👌
Lady was super nice. Friendly. And professional.
No problems w food, ordering etc. Bathrooms clean. Extra sink also outside in hallway so u don't have to go in bathtoom to wash hands. Make sure everyone washes hands before eating.
Food is great! Less oily than other places.
Ordered whole fried fish. So good and crispy! comes w vegetables.
Got Shiro! And meat dishes ofc. The injera is perfect and everything comes at right temperature.
Coffee here is good too!
I would come back. And also wish they expanded to more locations please 🙏
Simply amazing! I’ve come here a few times and the experience has been fantastic each time. I was just here with two friends - we each ordered a yesega sambusa, then shared the veggie combo with chicken and beef tibs (pictured here). Everything tasted incredible and fresh, and it was more than enough food for 3 people at a very reasonable price. Service is always warm and friendly, and the vibes are great. Will definitely be back!
When you enter the place it feels like you are in some other world. They have done a good job with the decor and installing Ethiopian art pieces!
The waitress was prompt and kind and our order came in fast. We got the lentil sambusa which was quite unique compared to other Ethiopian places we have been to. We also got the veggie combo and every dish hit the right spot! Just these were enough for 2 and each dish was very reasonably priced!
As with all the restaurants on this street, street parking is hard to find on weekends and it gets quite busy.
This is the spot you'll see the Habesha uncles going to. I wish I could do two seperate reviews for this place as it's a restaurant and market, I'll divide each and rate them individually.
The restaurant: 3.5 stars. This used to be the most affordable place compared to the other restaurants in the area, I guess over time they had to push the pricing to be the same as the others due to nation's economy. The service was also not that attentive or friendly. The food on the other hand, was very good. We got the fish and two meat dishes. However, they don't have as much of the shareable variety dishes as other places.
The market: 5 stars. This is a great place to shop for souvenirs, spices, small groceries, and merchandise. The older Habeshi uncle behind the cashier was very kind, friendly, and patient.
What can I say? One of the best food experiences I’ve ever had. The food was plentiful, budget friendly, flavorful, and filling. Everything you want in an authentic Ethiopian dish. I highly recommend the #3, the spice levels are perfect. Enjoy your time, and slowly, enjoy your meal
🌟Came with a friend and Ordered the fish dinner! Service and food were both great.🌟
🎈Bonus: This resTaurant was LOVED by Anthony Bourdain. It was also featured in the HBO series INSECURE.
WHAT A SPOT!! the ambient feeling like you left America for a little bit. I have sensory issues so the dim lighting and constant burning of incense made me feel so at home. The host was so attentive and kind as I was asking a lot of questions curious about what I was eating and what it was made with. Everything was worth the money and so affordable. I’d have to recommend starting of with the Samosas.
I personally ordered the veggie combo which was amazing and easy to enjoy, especially with me being a first timer. 10/10 would come back
Our food was fresh and delicious. We had the fish, it was fresh and flavorful. The ambience was perfect for talking to friends enjoying a meal together. I think eating with your hands lends to that.
It's not a beautiful place. But the owner, cook and staff are amazing. Excellent service and most important the food was Amazing. We ordered the house wine and several dishes recommended by the owner and waitress. You will feel at home at this restaurant. Thank you for your amazing hospitality.
