Stumbled across this place after shopping in Melrose district. Needed a place for happy hour. Omg were we in for a treat! This wasn't your everyday bar food. The quality of their happy hour menu was amazing. I've never had potatoe skins with Brie cheese, crab, bacon and scallions before. Most just come with some processed cheese and bacon bits. I highly recommend this joint if you are in the area.
At The Fat Dog, you’re getting a deal. The bloody mary is moderately spiced with a quick, upfront Worcestershire flavor followed by some serious horseradish kick. At the $5 price point, you wouldn’t expect much frill, but at this West Hollywood joint, you’d be wrong. The fragrant celery salt rim and a garnish with all the usual goods make this cocktail perfectly priced for long stints of day drinking.
Solid, local gastropub that has friendly, attentive staff. Food is well crafted and well presented. Of particular note is the French dip sandwich, fish and chips and their weekend brunch. Very large drink selection too
The cocktail list (below) is nothing to wag your tail at either - the drink names are full of playful nods to man's best friend. You'll even find some bottles of Hair of the Dog beer.
Vixen's LA Happy Hours
+4.5
The Sweet Potato Fries and cheese plate were fine and dandy, but the Swedish meatballs and the Potato Skins were out of this world! The Swedish Meatballs were the best I have ever had and the Potato Skins were stuffed with crab, bacon, and asparagus and topped with Hollandaise sauce. YUM.
The Fat Dog is the newest addition of what I'm predicting may actually become a happening area thanks to the new condos just above the bar. Yes, the bar is just north of the popular Melrose Ave.; but really, the choices in the area are limited when it comes to good food & drink, and even more limited when it comes to happy hour. It's about time there was a new bar in this West Hollywood/Mid-City section of LA!
Very familiar place. Chill vibe, great brews and food and a kickass staff. Oh, ps- the music playlist is on point and Dillan is one cool cat~!
Food was delicious (ate from brunch menu). Service prompt and friendly and best of all, you can bring your pooch!! First time visited, same for my friend, and definitely going to return.
I ordered Alternative Burger. First bite, I tasted nuts and fresh alfalfa sprouts was spread in my mouth was delicious and feel healthy. Burger with mint mayo was unique in different experience. Restaurant atmosphere and customer service was good.
Still the best veggie burger I've ever had. Every time I come into town it's a must visit. I had some sort of beer cocktail I can't recall the name and it was almost as delicious
I had a fantastic burger at Fat Dog that I'll never forget. It was my first burger in LA upon moving here. It was the best burger I've had in ages. And one of the best in LA. Since that first LA burger I've returned for other goodies. The Fat Dog is a must! So delicious and perfect. The Brussels Caesar is also incredible
I recommend you try this place!
Great food, good beer selection, and one to keep in mind if you don't want to leave the house without the dog. However, I will say the patio area is relatively small so it's likely you'll be close to other dogs if yours doesn't like other dogs. Otherwise, I'll definitely be back for happy hour in the near future.
Found this place on a whim after a Runyon canyon hike with my doggo. Patio is dog friendly and a bowl of water was brought out. The service was great! Had a ton of questions that were happily answered. Food was amazing with a great veggie burger. Will definitely return with pup in hand.
I've been here many times, with my fat dog. I like this place because it doesn't seem to attract many of the fevered Hollywood egos that plague other spots. Patrons tends to be pretty relaxed and grown up. The staff here are always super friendly, down to earth, and on it. The stodgy food is really good, but stodgy. There's a smallish, but good, selection of draft beer. I've never had much luck with or love for their cocktails, or for any of the lighter food on the menu, so it's slowly become my stodgy meal + beer go-to. But that's maybe just me.
I visited this restaurant for lunch and a couple of drinks. This is a relatively small restaurant, with a bar along one wall and some tables for diners. There is not a lot of privacy in the dining area, with the tables fairly close to each other.
There is a chalkboard behind the bar that lists the craft beers and other drinks that are available. They have an interesting selection of craft beers, so this is a good place if you want to try a new craft beer.
The menu has a lot of interesting items and is good if you want to try some new items or standard items that have a unique take. I had their alternative burger, which is a vegetarian burger, with sweet potato fries. The burger was above average in terms of vegetarian burgers that I have had. It's not a black bean burger -- I think I prefer vegetarian burgers that are black bean based.
Service was very good, but the restaurant was not too crowded on the Saturday after Christmas for lunch. Prices were not too bad -- a lunch and two beers for two people came to about $70 with tip.
I dropped in with some coworkers after work on a Friday for a beer and some appetizers. They have a pretty good selection of beer on tap and in bottle.
The hot wings, deviled eggs, & potato skins were all really good. We liked it so much we came back the following week.
It's definitely a cool spot! You can hang out inside or outside with all the cool people of West Hollywood.
Amazing food! I come here all the time and have not been disappointed yet. I have gotten the chicken sandwich, the mussels, the French dip, meatballs, fried cauliflower, Nutella mousse and don't get me started on great their brunch and happy hour is. I love sitting on their patio AND they allow dogs 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If I lived in the area it's be the perfect 1st date spot. Great craft beer reasonable pints of delish stuff. Booths and a dark ambiance. Also the dog friendly can't hurt your dog owning conscience or your prospects.
Solid burger (especially with egg). Very nice shared patio with Coffee Commissary. Limited beer selection, but I was told they are making room for some darker stuff. Can usually find cute, dogs out front.
Been coming here every time we visit LA since 2014. Food is always delicious and satisfying! The french dip is our favorite. Staff are super friendly too. Will definitely always come here
Just go on an empty stomach. Huge yummy portions. Great staff and atmosphere. Awesome place to people watch the locals. Full bar great location. Very very well kept and clean especially for a Gastropub!
This place is pretty perfect for any occasion. Great patio for dogs, nice Wi-Fi for work, and also a pretty good place to watch a game. Really nice variety on the cocktail list and have enjoyed everything off the menu I’ve ordered.
I'd definitely come back for drinks, but not for the food. They have a pretty large selection of drinks. We had a really bad server who paid no attention to us. Another server had to clear our table and take the check. Their menu doesn't do a good job describing the food. I got the breakfast pizza and it didn't say their was vinegar in the greens and the egg was pretty much raw. If you like your eggs barely cooked (the whites still raw) then this pizza is for you. Boyfriend asked for his Burger dry without any sauce and they put aioli on it he also asked for it to be cooked medium and it was well. They also charged $4 for a coke which the waiter never refilled and their water was lukewarm... never saw our waiter so I never could ask for ice. Majorly disappointed in the food.
