Que rico! We started with fried calamari ($11), and it was great! A shareable portion that's lightly battered, and crispy. It comes with cocktail sauce, but really, all you need is a squeeze of fresh lime to enjoy. Fish tacos are fantastic - very meaty, and not too heavy or oily. They have the perfect crunch with the batter and fresh cabbage, with a cool ribbon of crema to balance out the spice - an order of two good sized tacos on soft corn tortillas is a steal $6. We also tried the pescado/camaron/pulpo ceviche. TO DIE FOR. There's a whole lot of seafood packed into this dish. I like that everything is diced small - including the fish - so the $15 price tag is a bargain for the quantity and quality.
The bloody clams were awesome and the tostada de ceviche was amazing too. It was well worth the drive and the people that worked there are very hospitable. . super great place
El mejor ceviche centro americano en Los Angeles. Fresco y sabroso sin agregarle tapatio ni sal
One of our neighborhood favorites. The fish tacos are delicious. The ceviche is generously portioned, fresh and tasty. The shrimp mojo de ajo is garlicky goodness. Get the limeade and if you like spicy ask for the yellow habanero sauce.
The food is delicious and the service is great .I really recommend it.
I absolutely loved this place. Service was great, staff is amazing and the food is impeccable. Muchas gracias to Chef Carolina! Best ceviche I've encountered and you truly feel at home here....
I have known Julio and Carolina for about 20 years. Their warm service and smile when you walk in makes them special. They make one of the best Cerviche I have ever had!! The bloody Clam is amazing!!
Great service, great food. A little pricey. But overall really good.
RUN, DON'T WALK. The ceviche is top notch and the menu is large enough that I'm dying to go back and explore more. DID I MENTION RUN, DON'T WALK?
Excellent food and customer service!!!!
If I can give the food more stars I would. The kitchen is clean and the chef fantastic. Make sure you interact with him and ask for suggestions
La Cevicheria is a great local GEM💎! We were greeted as soon as we entered and our order was taken the moment we decided. We had the fish & shrimp tacos and we started with the special of the day that consisted of a smoked marlin tostada which was super tasty; the tacos were delicious as well.
For dessert, we had the tres leches cake which we had a hard time keeping around long enough to take a picture 😉.
Highly recommend La Cevicheria!
Indulge in a gastro-gasmic adventure at this hidden gem, where patience pays off. While you may have to wait long for a table at this cozy establishment (or better yet, visit during non-lunch hours on weekdays), you'll be rewarded with an exquisite selection of the most authentic Guatemalan ceviches in LA. Their menu also boasts an array of tantalizing Latin American seafood dishes, such as aguachiles, mejillones al mono de ajo, pescado Veracruzano, and shrimp curry. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; this hole-in-the-wall spot is an absolute must-visit for any food lover! And of course those Chapines craving the ceviche de concha negra from home
What an experience! Owner/chef greeted us right when we walked in, such a warm and welcoming environment. Walked us through the menu and let me tell you this guy was made to do this! Amazing personality to match his amazing food. Full of life, colors and flavors! Also the home made habanero salsa is delicious. We ordered the aguachiles, fish tacos, CHAPIN ceviche was the tables favorite and the caribena mariscadas was full of flavor and right amount of spice. Can’t wait to go back, one of the best food/restaurant experiences we had in a long time.
Everything slaps here.
We had the fish tacos, shrimp tacos and mixto ceviche. They all slapped. Their yellow habanero hot sauce? You guessed it. It slaps.
CASH ONLY. Usually makes a place 4 stars, but the food slaps. Just go.
Only street/meter parking available
The Burrito De Pescado. I love the crunchy fish, avocado and rice combination, but the Habanero sauce and lime is essential to complete the plate. Must like it hot!
Best ensenada style fish tacos in Los Angeles
I have been coming for over a decade now, very simple menu that holds the perfect touch as far as seafood is concerned. Great food is an understatement to the flavor and quality of their dishes. Oh and it's also an Michelin Award recipient. Small place, simple menu, amazing food. Cash only.
Jonathan Gold-reviewed?? Say no more. This place has all the hallmarks of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. It seems so unassuming, yet they got that je sai quois. It’s in their hot sauce, their fish tacos, their friendly service. BUT DONT FORGET TO BRING CASH. Biggest minus, but what can you expect, it’s LA 😛
The BEST Mexican Food. A must-go place in LA. Chef Carolina is taking care of this place like her home. Food is yummy. Simply the best Quesadilla. Their desert like a bread cake/pudding with cream was super tasty. The waitress who is always smiling makes the experience all the more pleasant.
Just be aware they accept Cash only. And it's a very small place; so if you are more than 4,5 people; will have to sit in multiple tables.
What an amazing discovery! We live in Ktown and we were desperately looking for a great ceviche place. You know...one of those days. We google'd "ceviche nearby" and this place came on top. We decided give it a try and so glad we did! Do not expect a luxurious establishment, that's not the case. It is a neighborhood Latino business. The quality of the seafood was magnificent. Super reasonably priced. No alcohol though- ceviche and beer makes the perfect combination. Our favorite ceviche restaurant so far! We will be back
Everything about the experience from customer service to quality of ingredients to the homey international mom and pop atmosphere is 10/10. I got the tacos de pescado and the tres amigos ceviche to go. I didn’t get a good picture of the ceviche but the portions are generous and everything looked and tasted excellent. I can’t wait to explore the menu even more!
I went on a Wednesday, around 2 pm. It's a simple place, but with fantastic food and service. It's not a surprise that it's no Michelin guide. Cash only and hard to park. I'm not a person who loves spicy, but even everything was spicy in the right amount, with the right punch. It's not very traditional but very gourmet and elegant in flavor. We asked Veracruzana stew, fish tacos and Concha Negra Mixto. The fish tacos had the perfect texture, like perfect tempura. It's very light and crunchy, and you don't even think it's a fried fish in the middle. Eat as soon as it arrives on the table. The Concha Negra was amazingly balanced in acidity, textures, and freshness. The Veracruzana stew is perfect if you enjoy a Mediterranean aesthetic with capers and olives. Something that was a differential for us was the service. The owner took a good amount of time introducing us to the menu and the recommendation. It definitely, made a huge difference in our experience. I'm going to return for sure :)
GUATEMALA 🇬🇹
Eat the World LA review:
While Pico Blvd is certainly no seaside community and the table outside gets a touch hot on most afternoons, somehow once the screen door of this 16 year old restaurant closes behind you it feels much closer to the ocean. Nautical themes and soft blue paint help, sure; but the feelings induced are pure seafood shack and not unlike the modest places that dot the Pacific coastline of Central America visited many years ago.
In the ceviche spectrum of Los Angeles, Guatemala may not get its proper dues but that is only because it is overshadowed by some of its Mexican and Peruvian cousins and most of the 230,000+ folks come from more inland portions of the country. With no major coastal highway, the beaches and seaside towns are reached from a series of roads from the interior and feel secluded. If you want to relive past trips, or get a sense of what a future trip would feel like, come to Mid-City's La Cevicheria.
Deserving of a large order is the ceviche de concha negra mixto ($17), always the source of most of what gets written about this place because of its English translation to "bloody clams." In Spanish this is "black shells or conches," so it makes sense that the resulting color is somewhere in between black and blood red, with slicks of both mixed in. The taste of the sea is always there. Sometimes this can be a drag with seafood, but bloody clam brine seems magical and done perfectly. As you see above, packages of Saltines arrive with orders of ceviche, exactly as happened at those shacks in Guatemala.
Love this place! If you blink you will miss it..we ordered camarones al mojo y cocktail de concha. Both were amazing, best mojo I've ever try and fair prices. The cocktail was took good that I couldn't pause to take the picture. This is the left over
My favorite “hole in the wall” restaurant. The food is always good and fresh!! 🙂🙂🙂
If you're a ceviche aficionado this is the place for you. Excellent selection, extremely fresh and very well balanced dishes. My only suggestion would be to get there early they tend to sell out of the more popular items. CASH ONLY
