Typical Nice Little Irish Pub. Sometimes quiet. Sometimes packed and loud with a band, trivia contest or karaoke.. Unlike the other diner who wrote a review, when we walked in there weren't many people at all. We were a little worried and almost left, but then, someone who had heard me mention that there were no booths open, came over and offered us the booth he had been sitting in. It was such a nice jesture, we all looked at each other and realized that now we would be too embarrassed to leave. Which in the end, was great.
We had a friendly red headed Irish waitress, named Anita, with a nice accent from home. And, off and on, we also had a waiter named Mike, who was upbeat, friendly and helpful. They both made sure we had everything we needed. Our food was basic pub fair - fries with curry sauce, fish and chips and a hamburger. They also offer shepherds pie and a Guinness stew with a pastry topping on it, called Guinness pie, that looked nice as well. And there is plenty more on the menu. They have a nice selection of beers, ales, ciders and Guinness on tap.
When you walk in, there are locals at the bar and a big Irish flag hanging on the ceiling. The pub is well lived in. Well worn booths and chairs. The lighting is nice and ambient low. No fancy light fictures with a blaring bulb making it hard to look across and chat with your friends. We arrived at about quarter to 7:00 and stayed till a little after 9:00. We were laughing and talking and having a great time. We were never rushed to hurry up and leave our booth. We were well taken care of and always had everything we needed without being overly bothered by questions.
We were three adults and a little 9 year old girl. Myself, my husband, his step sister, in from out of town, and our daughter, Violet. They treated Violet really well. Always making sure her soda was filled (until we had to switch to water because a small little thing can only handle so much sugar.) Violet likes her fries absolutley, completely overcooked. It is hard for a chef/cook to intentionally overcook something so badly, but they did it for her. The waitress, Anita, bringing Violet's fries back multiple times, until she was happy with how hard and overcooked they were.
They were really great about any odd thing we needed. No lettuce, tomato or condiments on the burger, tons of ice in one water and no ice in the other, fries tremendously overcooked and hard for one order and regular for the other order. It makes dinner that much nicer when you can easily get just what you'd like.
We had to wait a few extra minutes for our check because our waitress was also the bartender for a bit, but it wasn't overly long at all and, to me, it was all part of the friendly local pub atmosphere.
When we were leaving about 9:00, they were gearing up for Wednesday night karaoke. I found out that on Tuesday nights they have a trivia contest. I hear the atmosphere is crowded, fun, serious with pints. Thursdays is mellow and Friday and Saturday nights they have live bands.
So, i guess, some times the pub is a nice quiet place to hang out with your friends to have a pint or a meal and other times it is smashed, crazy loud with people and bands. To me, either sounds fun. Just call ahead of time and check what will be going on, so you end up on the right night, at the right time, for what you are looking for.
