Nice Mother's Day Gathering. It seems that lots of people are all too gung ho to leave a review when they have a bad experience, but never think of leaving one when things are good to great. We had a group needing to go out for Mother's Day. We would have 6 adults and a 1 year old. We chose The Cattle Baron. We were seated promptly by a friendly hostess and our drink order was taken quickly. We were seated in a nice large booth with plenty of room. We had a pair split a filet mignon and they had the salad bar as well. They were very pleased with the steak and the salad bar. No complaints. We also had folks order the chicken fry and salad bar with no complaints on either. I split a steak with my wife and we split a baked potato. My wife went to the salad bar and it was all fine. The bread before the meal was fine and our waitress, Alexis, was just excellent and attentive. Our drinks were kept full and it could not have been a more pleasant experience. We will visit again.
Very Nice. Great bar, very good food and professional service. Under new management for past few months, this place has really improved.... wasn't bad before.... now it's great. Went on a Thursday night, 4 of us. Place was busy. We were greeted quickly, sat at a nice table and served promptly. Good drink pours, great salad bar, great steaks. Cattle Baron is a solid bet.

Getting Better!. We tried Cattle Baron after swearing we never would again. Apparently there is a new manager, Rick, and he's terrific! We watched him greet guests, work with the cooks, and make sure the food was right before it got out to the tables. He even made the effort to greet us at our table to make sure we were happy with our plates. I had the filet and while it was cooked correctly, I would have liked a little more seasoning or something. The texture was really good, but it just needed something. My husband ordered the biggest prime rib and we were surprised that the cooking temperature was consistent on that, too! The baked potatoes are what you would expect. The highlight was the green chile won tons and sauteed mushrooms. The salad bar looks so much better than it used to! That was the biggest surprise! It was clean and well stocked with a lot of variety. The soups were good. We didn't come to Cattle Baron for soup, but its nice to have options. Our server was very friendly and we felt that the pace of the meal was actually perfect. The restaurant looks A LOT cleaner than it did the last time we were in about 2 years ago. Definitely worth a second chance!
One of the beat places in Lubbock to eat I do have to say the one in protales is way better tough I love their mushrooms and the bread is wonderful
Great experience. Food was excellent also waiter was fast and helpful. Also really liked the live music on the patio on Wednesday nights. It feels like Austin.

Everytime I am in Lubbock I have prime rib. Never disappointed
Great salad bar. It seems sort of funny that I am recommending the salad bar at a steak restaurant, but that's how it is. We have had OK prime rib, but other meals are so -so. The standout is definately the salad.
I enjoyed it. I've only been to the restaurant once recently and enjoyed my meal. The salad bar was very good and came with my entree. I ordered a New York strip which was a little undercooked when it first came out (I ordered medium but it was cooked medium rare), but after a couple of more minutes on the grill it was great. It was a good thick cut and was quite moist. The service was good, the restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. I went in with low expectations based on the other reviews but was pleasantly surprised. I recommend this restaurant for a good steak.
Delicious salad bar! Best I've had in a very long time. Everything was fresh and tasty, and service was excellent. I would recommend Cattle Baron's to anyone!
I love this place even on a busy nite it never feels too crowded or overwhelming. I've always had good service, waitstaff does their job pretty well, i' e only had subpar service a few times and that was on an occasion where I dined with a large group of people. I like the big salad bar and everything is very fresh. I usually get steak and they are very tasty. Always cooked just right and with some sauteed mushrooms on top, yum. And I'm a carb fanatic and love the bread served with the sweet cream butter, delish.
Overlooked. Cattle Baron is an overlooked and underrated steakhouse. By steakhouse standards, the prices are low, and the value for the money is high. So if you want a nice steak but don't want to break the bank, Cattle Baron is a good choice.
Amazing service. Great prime rib. Great steals. Great chicken. Nice salad bar. Great bread.
