Love it.. I go there often with my boyfriend since we both love spicy Thai food. Don't worry they can adjust the heat if you are sensitive. I love the volcano soup of a cold day and their pad Thai is amazing. My boyfriend is a fan of the coconut curry. We've been to almost all the Thai restaurants in town and this one is our favorite, not to mention the owner (the chef), his wife (the nice cute lady at the register) and their son (delivery and server) are nothing but kind to us every single time we go in.

I recently moved from lubbock and this is the one and only restaurant I am going to miss! I ate at choochai regularly for 5 years and never once had a bad experience. Yes,it isn't the quickest but what do you expect from one man cooking every dish? There are numerous signs telling you they aren't "fast food". Yes it's hot but isn't everyones definition of hot different? Again there are numerous signs informing you it's hot and there are sauces on the counter so fix it to your likings and order it a notch down from your usual heat level over complaining that it was too spicy. The building may not be the prettiest but its what's inside that counts: amazing food and people.

De-Lish!. This place is really good. The building is old, but don't let that put you off. The food is great every time I go!!

Finding a decent place out to eat in Lubbock that doesn't involve a chain and/or a burger is slim to none.

That's why I was surprised by this place! The building may be questionable, but who cares when the food is great? Be careful if your palette is not used to truly spicy foods. It you want something hot, order medium. Great food!

Excellent. This is not much of a review other than to say the Pad Thai was awesome. Medium/hot spice was almost more than I could handle but I couldn't put my sticks down. I will be going back again.

Best Thai food in Lubbock. I love this place! The pad Thai is great, but medium spicy is very hot! I usually order somewhere in between mild and medium. The egg rolls are good too, so don't miss out. The portions are large so my boyfriend and I usually share a plate, which helps our pockets. The place looks a little sketch, but the food is good enough to ignore that. If it bothers you, just order take out. It does take between 15-30 minutes for your food order so don't expect a quick pick up. Order ahead as your food is made to order.

I love this restraunt, the food is great, dont try to "be a man" and order it with spice. He dumbs it down to mild for a reason. The food is consistantly great. We are in there at least once a week.

Best Thai food in town, no doubt. I'll admit the building is a little sketchy, but the food rocks! Another thing; the spicy is very spicy so be careful when you order hot.

Best I've had. I've never bothered with an online review before, but I feel compelled to do so for Choo Chai. I lived in Lubbock from '96 to '02, and by the time I moved away, I was eating there at least twice a week.
Tahn and Renee treated me like family, and in all the years since, having tried every Thai joint in Austin, and countless others throughout a fairly well traveled decade, I have not had Thai food that even comes close.

A few months ago, I had to go back to my home town of Big Spring, and made the three hour round trip just to have Choo Chai again. It is just as incredible as I remembered, and to top it off, after more than eight years, they not only remembered me, they even remembered what I usually ordered (chicken with mixed vegetables made "Thai Spicy").

Thanks guys, and I hope I make it back there soon.

Hidden gem. I gave this place a try after always wanting to and I was very pleased. The lady at the front was very sweet and helped me pick an entree that I was sure to enjoy. The prices are great and the food was out promptly.

The lady at the front even gave me a to-go menu and had highlighted the dishes I should try. The food is prepared right there at the counter so you know it is fresh. I had the yellow curry chicken and although the portion was small, it was delicious and the lady at the front could not have been more kind and attentive.

I will definitely be returning to this gem of Lubbock.

EXCELLENT. This is in an older building but the owners are great, make you feel at home, and make the absolute best Thai food- very authentic.
For those bad reviews, I guess you aren't used to real Thai and you need a fancy setting with a bunch of tightwod waitstaff.

This place was my first experience with Thai food andi was very pleased. I got spicy pad Thai noodles and some other noodle dish I can't recall the name of. Both were very tasty and very spicy. It's a pretty chill place and the atmosphere is great. I hate that I have to drive from one side of town to get there but it's worth it.

Awesome Thai. ChooChai is great food in a cool joint. The owners are there every day so attention to detail is spot-on. You want hot, you can get it here. This is a TTU tradition and has been around for years.

ChooChai is probably the best Thai in Lubbock. It is owned and operated by the late ChooChai's wife, who happens to be very well versed and experienced in both Thai Cuisine and Culture. She is also very sweet and enjoys helping others whom are less experienced with the joys of Thai food in deciding on what to order. Having eaten at many Thai restaraunts throughout the country, ChooChai is my favorite, hands down..

Very good. The chef helped us choose our dishes and was very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is really basic (OK, it could be called a dive), but the proof is in the pudding (or pad see ew).

THE best thai food in Lubbock. I am a Thai food junkie, and Choochai on 19th beats everyone else HANDS DOWN. My 3 all-time favorites are their Padd Thai, Khow Soy (chicken cooked in yellow curry and coconut milk over steamed noodles), and chicken satay. I've had their Padd See Eww also and pretty darn good. Their Special Artar is good and similar in flavor to the Khow Soy, but I will stick to the Khow Soy when in the mood for yellow curry.

BEWARE -- Their medium is HOT!! If the mild is too mild but the medium is too hot ... Renee told me to order it "Mild Plus" -- LOL!

I'll go to Thai Pepper if Choochai is closed. Bangkok was good but I believe it's closed now. Haven't tried Thai Thai yet mainly because I'm always craving Choochai. LOL!!

Choochai Padd Thai comes in half or full size. I always get the full size so that I can have it for lunch the next day.

06/30/10 -- Edit to previous Review --
I've since tried Thai Thai and it is my distant second choice with Thai Pepper a close third to Thai Thai. Apparently Bankok Thai is still open, but remains my fourth choice for Thai in Lubbock.

7/13/2013 -- I've been a loyal customer of Taun and Renee's Choochai since I moved here in 1999. Always fantastic! I love their Padd Thai!! We each order full servings and then had some peanut sauce to it. Just a little. My second favorite dish is now a toss up between the Khow Soy (yellow curry) and the Special George (green curry). I always get one of these over noodles instead of rice, just my personal preference. Yes, prepare to wait 30-45 minutes when you order unless they have no other orders going. Taun is the only cook and he makes each serving when ordered. If you want fast food, go next door for the $5 Hot & Ready pizza from Little Caesar's Pizza. Oh! and Taun's brother owns Thai Thai but their food is different. But then, his brother is taking the orders not cooking in the kitchen. Choochai remains my favorite Thai place in West Texas. Always.

Best thai place in town, but hands down my favorite asian cuisine in lubbock. Locally owned and operated. Been a customer for about 4 years now and I have never been disappointed. Not once ! It is authentic thai food , and it's delicious and fresh every single time. Whether you are just passing through or live here I would highly recommend choochai.
