Wow! There is a reason Big Al's celebrated 50 years of business May 31, 2023! There pizza is the best I've had in a very long time! My husband and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary by coming up north. We have more Pizza places than you can count in Grand Rapids. We had the Chicago Deep Dish, and all I can say is YUM!!!
Visiting family this weekend and when we mentioned pizza, they responded “Big Al’s” immediately! We ordered to go and our two orders were ready upon arrival! We counted 13 employees all working hard behind the counter. The pizza crust was baked and crispy yet soft at the same time; each pizza had plenty of fresh ingredients.

Holy cow! No wonder why mancino's went out of business. Everything about this place is great. The food is A1, and the staff was super friendly and helpful to new customers. It was a little warm inside sitting down to eat, but it was also the middle of summer.

Had an outstanding hand tossed pizza and the subs I saw others eating were stacked high with meat. Highly recommended if you are hungry!
Pizza is delicious 9/10! Breadsticks were 8/10 and ordering and delivery was on point. Main complaint is sold as deep dish but it's not deep dish. It's more of a thick hand toss crust. Great value, great customer service and tasty good! Definitely will be back when we are in Manistee again!

I was referred by a friend in Grand Rapids who grew up in Manistee, so I went way out of my way to try an Al's special with sub sauce and extra sauce. It was amazing. Well worth the drive.

Delicious pizza! Always made fast too. We usually get take out but tried dining in this week. It's pretty run down looking inside but it was a nice day so we ate outside on the porch at picnic tables. Service was very friendly. You order at the counter and they'll bring it to you with paper plates. An enjoyable spot for a casual family dinner.
Big Al's is the best pizza place in all of the Manistee area, hands down. The sauce was premium, exceptional, and super tasty. The pizza was particularly filling and had tremendous flavor/taste. The breadsticks were stunning. Everything was immaculate really. All at an appropriate price as well. My friend that formally lived in Manistee informed me that this was the most satisfactory pizza establishment ever when I mentioned how Suttons Bay, Michigan had the Roman Wheel for their impressive pizza and I will say Big Al's is undoubtedly a top prospect for competition against The Roman Wheel. I didn't think I would ever declare that but yet here I am doing precisely that. This alone conveys plenty about the quality of pizza and food in general that is had here. I will absolutely return here again for certain.
Always look forward to eating here while visiting Manistee. Their chicken fettuccine is AMAZING. We tried the Chicago pizza, also AMAZING. This is a 5 star restaurant due to the speed, service and quality of their food. You won't be disappointed if you order from here. Also open late for the many angler's coming off Lake Michigan at night.
We got a Chicago-style pizza which was like lava when it came out (in a good way), as well as some cheese-draped mozzarella bread. The food was tasty, and the service was friendly and exuberant. They also have gluten free options!
Great pizza. Dine in and carry out options. I did the carry out option with some friends and took the pizza down the street to third life brewing where you can order an amazing beer and bring in your own food.

We stayed at a local campground for the weekend and dropped in for lunch. I wasn't expecting much but sandwiches sounded great and there weren't a ton of restaurant options to choose from. They have a decent selection of sandwich options as well as pizza, bread sticks, stromboli, and pasta. All of use ended up getting a sub of various kind and all of us absolutely loved it. One of the staff members told us that they make the bread in house and that they make everything fresh and to order. They also slice everything themselves and they source local. You can really taste the quality because everything was delicious. The subs are really generous and you can get extra meat if you really want to, but it's probably not necessary. Prices are very fair...about $10 per person if you order a sub and a drink.
We also got the mozarella breadsticks, which were tasty. We though they were more like bosco sticks with the cheese inside, but they came with melted cheese on top. No big deal, still really tasty. The dough is made in house and so is the pizza sauce and both were awesome. We also got nacho cheese and it's the real deal.
Everything was so good we ended up going for lunch again when we were heading out. Highly recommend if you're in the area - must stop in if you're staying in Orchard Beach SP.
We'll definitely try the pizza next time, but we're definitely coming back for those subs. Try the sub sauce!
We were on vacation and saw the great reviews and the lady at our hotel also said it was good, so we stopped in. The food was very very reasonably priced, pizza and Stromboli’s were awesome, and the best part the staff. Everyone who worked there was polite, helpful, and genuinely nice people. I would definitely go out of my way to visit here again.
I've been going to Big Al's since 1973!! My all-time favorite! I LOVE their Big Al's Special (Sub) with sub-sauce!! Their cheese pizza is better than any other place's pizzas with toppings!
Love Big Al's. I had a Stromboli and it was delicious. Ham, mushrooms, onions and their special sauce. Yummy!
Made a hotel stay, much more enjoyable. We debated on getting the Chicago with just cheese as some of the reviews suggested and went with pepperoni, bacon instead. If you want lots of toppings, they definitely load it up. Next time we're gonna try just cheese as it didn't need any toppings. Quick, crisp crust, quality toppings and cheese
