First time my husband and I have ever been. Service was friendly; never had to ask for a refill on drinks. Oysters on the 1/2 shell were delicious. Had the fried combo platter. Everything was fresh, hot, and perfect portion size. Would like to see more offered for dessert. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu offerings. Would recommend to friends and family.
Amazing food, even better service, and the atmosphere reminds my hubby and I of our old home in Mexico Beach, FL. Seriously, we lived right on the Gulf of Mexico and even the freshest food had no comparison to Jackie and Chuck’s homemade spin on MD crab and seafood dishes! Thank you for an amazing Saturday night and for sharing your homemade cookies with us!! We can’t wait to come visit you again! Xoxoxo

Wow...we have just had the best fish sandwich ever!!! (blackened grouper) I am amazed...it is now my favorite fish sandwich!! Fantastic Thank you so much!
This is the BEST place to come for seafood, and atmosphere, owner is a super nice, friendly guy, crabcakes, lobster bisque, shrimp, nothing you order is bad, EVERYTHING IS uber delish!!!! Definitely go back!!!!
Drove an hour for the all you can eat crabs and it was definitely worth it! We will definitely be back next time there’s auce for $25!
Our only complaint is there isn’t one closer to home. We all vote you open a restaurant in Woodstock! �

The restaurant looks similar to the shanties you find along the Bay. Nothing fancy or pretentious. But these shanties usually have the best food. We were a little skeptical of good, fresh seafood all the way out here in West Virginia, but figured we'd give it a try.
We arrived towards closing, but the folks behind the counter were happy to serve us. They did not make us feel like we were inconveniencing them.
We wanted the gator tail appetizer, but apparently it's popular as they were out. Since we arrived only 15 minutes before closing, it's hard to count that against them. We chose the Calamari instead. It was excellent. Flavorful and not rubbery at all.
I had the Chesapeake Sampler. The seafood was cooked to perfection and very flavorful! My partner had the Captain's sampler. With some breaded and fried seafood, you get way too much breading. That was not the case here. Again, tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection.
I will definitely recommend and will also come back. I want to try that gator tail!

The best cream of crab/Maryland crab I’ve ever had! Crabs were fresh, full and delicious!! Adult slushies are just what we needed. Fantastic atmosphere and the owner was awesome!! Authentic Maryland seafood in West Virginia!
Awsome place, great decor! Staff went above and beyond to help us get inside with a wheelchair. The service was spectacular! The food made us feel as if we were back home on the Gulf Coast. We will definitely be back!

FINALLY FOUND MARYLAND BLUE CRABS STEAMED LIKE MARYLANDERS DO! Almost heaven WV indeed! As a transplant to VA I've spent several summers frustrated trying to find MD blue crabs steamed the way I grew up & spent most of my adult life eating them in MD. No other place comes close to Mother Shuckers. Seriously.
We ordered 1/2 bushel mediums at the right time of the month. They were packed solid & on the larger side of mediums (see pic). We also ordered 2 other times & were very satisfied. We asked they be steamed w/extra seasoning. Mother Shuckers didn't just toss a little plastic condiment container w/some generic seafood seasoning in the bag but they actually STEAMED our 1/2 bushel WITH EXTRA AUTHENTIC MD CRABHOUSE SEASONING!
Not 1 of our crabs were burnt on the bottom & every single one had BOTH claws in tact. Do you know how much care it takes to untangle crabs into & out of the pot so you don't lose claws?
Other places in VA claim to steam crabs MD style but Mother Shuckers is the only place I found that consistently does it right.
Each time I called I spoke w/Skylar. He's knowledgeable, super friendly & tells the truth about how they're running. There's nothing you can do about the crab growing & shedding process. But even the few light crabs we got out of the many dozens we've had were delicious. And, importantly, we NEVER got a bad/muddy/overcooked/burnt on the bottom crab.
Tip: It's a 45min drive for us & since gas is high hubby squeezes into my little old 4-cylinder car, throws a box in the backseat & puts the double bagged crabs in there w/the box left open. The crabs are still really warm when he gets home & there's no leaking through or residual smell in the car.
If you grew up eating crabs in MD (or want authentic MD crabs) make the drive. You won't be disappointed Hon!
JUST WOWW! Came to Mother Shuckers after recommendation from fellow Chesapeake Marylanders relocated to WV. Started with crab cake egg roll (amazing!), loaded crab fries, and crab dip. All delicious. Ordered the big fish tacos, by far the best I’ve had in the area. Pulled pork was delicious, as well as the crab cake and shrimp macaroni salad. Even got free birthday cheesecake! INCREDIBLE AND KIND STAFF. Good food, good people, good vibe. Can’t recommend enough, will definitely return. Thank you Skylar!
Definitely Coming back to this gem tucked away in Martinsburg.
Bring your appetite. The food is excellent and the price was pretty good. My friend and I shared the appetizer of loaded fries which consisted of Crab Dip Cheese bacon and scallions. Our main dishes were gator po boy and crab cake sandwich. Gator meat taste like chicken. Crab was very tasty.
Sides were hush puppies and coleslaw. I washed my food down with a cold bottle of Yuengling.
Coming back next month most definitely.
Had a wonderful time. This place is a very nice place to eat and the staff is wonderful. Will definitely come again.
We went here to eat tonight. We had a party of 5, myself, my husband, and our 3 kids. I got the crab legs platter. My husband got the Chesapeake Sampler. My youngest daughter got chicken strips and frys. She is a picky eater, so when she ate all the strips I was surprised. She kept telling me how good all the food was and how hard everyone must have worked. My oldest daughter walked in with a bad mood and refused to order. By the end of the meal she took half of my food because it looked so good. Also the corn nuggets were so good. They were definitely a great side.
Update: I took my father here on May 28th 2022. He LOVED the food here. It is hard for to get him to try a new place. He said he will definitely be back.
Friendly staff that will joke around with ya. Amazing food! Wish i ate there sooner a long time ago. Loved how it look inside, felt like i was by the ocean. Definitely be going back again. A bit expensive but very understandable for how things are going these days.
