Like this cute ancient Hawaiian style house and airy space, right next to the beach so very accessible to beautiful landscape for most of the seats. Food is average for its price but I really like the purple yum bread which is very special. Food portion is a bit small but side is a bit large than expected.
Everyone is so nice there! They are amazing at checking up on how you and your food is. Staff is truly amazing and kind!! Food is delicious! I had the diver scallops and rack of lamb and definitely recommend!! Lamb is so tender and great flavor! Scallops melt in your mouth with a fantastic sauce to go with it! This restaurant is 10/10 and everyone there truly cares! Thank you Humuhumu for this fabulous experience!!
Excellent meal at the Humu - again! Our family including our adult kids really enjoyed the good mix of appetizers and entrees cocktails and wine. Fabulous bread also. A must try in Maui.
Our server was wonderful, and the atmosphere was great. We were there at sunset and had a very good view for taking pictures. The food was delicious but too expensive! I don't recommend it because the food is so overpriced.
Humuhumu exudes a positive energy and we loved its atmosphere, especially the sunset view. Upon entering, there is a bar area, but as you explore further, you'll find more spaces. We ordered the pineapple fried rice and pork ribs. Unfortunately, the pork ribs were dry, indicating that the meat quality may have been subpar. However, the sauce was flavorful and saved the dish. To prevent the meat from being too dry, we had to smother it with the sauce. On the other hand, the desserts were fantastic, especially the tropical vacherine. We were pleasantly surprised each time we ordered it. Despite the disappointing pork ribs, the reasonable pricing for a hotel restaurant and the amazing vibe of the place make us want to come back again.
Tips: Upon being seated, they offer complimentary bread served with lillikoi butter topped with Hawaiian sea salt, which is absolutely delicious. We couldn't resist and quickly finished the butter, but luckily we were able to ask for more. Highly recommend trying it!
SUCH delicious food!!! We went this summer but it took a while to get to reviews. Our meal here was a major highlight of our trip to Maui.
The staff was very kind and patient, and worked so well with kids and also with dietary restrictions/food sensitivities.
Food was just lovely -- delicious, delicate and filling all at the same time. The cocktails were outstanding, as were the mocktails! My kiddo couldn't get enough of the teriyaki steak and the ube bread. I adored the fish dish I had (a white fish with pecan crust of sorts, on a bed of risotto and mushrooms), but it was so good I ate the whole thing before I remembered to get a photo!
Atmosphere was relaxing and lovely with beautiful views. The only downside, at the time, was the sun... in certain seating, up against the railing by the water/reflecting pool, the setting sun was so searingly hot and direct that it was impossible to enjoy anything at all. That kind of sun is just painful. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and the staff very graciously allowed us to move to a table in the bar.
5 Stars, all the way around.
Our server was very polite and friendly.
Most of our food was quite good, the coconut shrimp was a little over cooked but flavorful, and the pineapple fried rice was quite plain and lacking pineapple.
The ahi poke, brussel sprouts, and crab crusted catch were spectacular.
You definitely should reserve a table. If you have one, there is a good choice of different foods. We tried the fish and it was very delicous. The service is friendly and everything is delivered quickly.
I would recommend this restaurant for dining.
Gorgeous location, it’s a real experience in excess. Walking through the Grand Wailea you can really sense the disparity between the haves and have nots on this island. I did like the food a lot, but left feeling I wasn’t with my people. I’m a chef, I totally appreciate the talent here, but know you’re amongst the 1%, if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll eat up the whole experience. I should say I appreciated the presence of na drinks. 👍
We went to Humu Humu the night they re-opened after renovations and an extensive menu change. Because it was their first night open and there are sure to be kinks to work out, I gave 4 stars, but I’d say our experience was closer to 3.
The highlights of our experience were the ambiance, service, and cocktails. The restaurant is fun and beautiful, and the surrounding views are noteworthy. While our waiter was still working on memorizing the menu, she was kind and gave us helpful recommendations. Our busser was particularly friendly, also checking in on us and answering questions we had about the menu. All of the cocktails were great, and I would definitely return to sit at the bar.
I’m disappointed to say that the menu changes have detracted from the experience, in my opinion. We last dined at Humu Humu is August of ‘22, and we came away thinking it was one of the best meals we’d ever had. This was not the case with the new menu. We
ordered a salad, which was the highlight of the meal for me. We also ordered a couple appetizers which were forgotten (but removed from the bill), so unfortunately, we didn’t get to try those. Our mains (the sea bass and snapper) were very underwhelming. We added a side of the sweet potatoes, which was solid but not a standout. Finally, we ended with the basque cheesecake, which was crumbly and not as smooth as I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber and price point.
The prices are high, which is to be expected from a resort restaurant. But last year I was happy to pay them and was looking forward to returning. With the new menu, I don’t think I would go back except for drinks and maybe an appetizer. I’m sure the restaurant will continue to improve over time, but I can’t imagine that the new menu will ever exceed the previous iteration in my eyes. We had a significantly tastier experience at the Botero Lounge and Olivine during our stay at the Grand Wailea, both for less money. For those looking for a seafood focused meal like Humu Humu offers, I would recommend sushi at the Botero Lounge, and for those looking for a great meal with a view, I would recommend Olivine.
When in Wailea for a sunset dinner, make sure you check out Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa! The location is such a favorite of mine, The Grand Wailea, and it’s surrounded by a beautiful water feature. Even if you don’t get an ocean view, you’ll hear waterfalls or live music.
The food is also fabulous as is the service, the waiters even address you by your last name. (nice personal touch guys!)
We’ll be back for another anniversary celebration I’m sure!
We really enjoyed our dinner here. Beautiful restaurant, best view on the resort. The drinks were probably the highlight for us, particularly the “Lime in the Coconut” mocktail. The Grand and Aloha Oe cocktails were both delicious as well. Diver scallops were big and perfectly cooked. The fish mains were smaller in size but cooked well, sous vide first then finished with a pan sear. The Mud pie for dessert was frozen hard when served and not my favorite.
This place is amazing. I do not understand how it only gets a 4.3, minimum would be 4.6.
Food is delicious, tasteful, staff is beyond nice, the place is by the water, perfect sunset view and waterfall on the back.
At least today they had live music on and the girl was also super good.
We LOVE the HumuHumu. One of our favorite places to have dinner on Maui. This trip we enjoyed the pleasure of Michael Jay’s company as our server. He was so welcoming, friendly and attentive. Knowledgeable regarding the food, drinks. The ambiance is amazing and beautiful. The hostess was able to accommodate our request for a table in the bar to watch for whales and the amazing sunset. The food was spectacular…. Every single bite of the meal was great. Drinks were perfect!Enjoyed this celebration dinner!
what a great restaurant this was! it was really fun to get a little sneak peek into a luxury resort experience. our server was super friendly, lots of very yummy food, and great live music too! makes for a special evening. for someone who doesn't drink alcohol, they had 3 very yummy NA options, hard to choose just one. huli huli chicken and pineapple fried rice had all the right flavors, was just the right amount of food. price was significantly higher than an average restaurant but reasonable and very worth it, even just for the views and ambience alone.
