Went with my wife and son to celebrate her birthday dinner. The hosts were very helpful and found us a booth in 3 minutes despite being busy that night. The food was served timely and it was very appetizing. Our server is great and handled all our requests without any qualms. It's our first time dining at this place. It was well worth money spent. Highly recommend it.
I love the ribeye! 18 oz of deliciousness. In fact it was a monster of ribeye. Our waiter was very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place.
My first experience J. Gilberts and very impressed! We will certainly return! All of the seafood was delicious! We had their stunning shrimp cocktail, wonderful scallops, salmon, and crab cakes! In addition, my steak was perfect! Great food & great service! It could have been a little cooler inside but other than that 5 stars!
Embraced an old favorite with the salmon and spouse ordered the filet. All three courses expertly prepared with changes that enhanced flavors of the season keeping favorite dishes fresh-that takes confidence. Service (Igor) personable and a great help with cocktails and wine as well answering questions about the menu. Plus the bartender created a wished for cocktail for this Birthday celebration. Wow, what a night.
The food, ambiance and service were impeccable! My first time there but definitely not my last! It was my birthday dinner and I couldn't have dreamed of a better experience!! Our waiter Alex was phenomenal and he made the experience the best ever!! 👍🏻
Great food at reasonable prices. I highly recommend the lobster Mac and Cheese and the Lobster Cob Salad. The Tortilla Soup is good too.
Had a great server David yesterday for lunch.
Well knowledgeable and polite. He recommended the lobster bisque along with my maple salmon it was fantastic. Can't wait to come back with regular attire instead of my work uniform
Celebrated our Silver anniversary with delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and outstanding service!! Hugo (our server) and Pat (manager) truly made us feel special. Thank you for a totally special celebration!
My wife and I have been dining at J Gibert's for the past eight years. The food is always awesome and the service is great. Deon, our server, was polite and attentive.
The server was excellent, the food was delicious will definitely go back
Split the charcuterie and cheese plate as an appetizer, then had burgers with my son at the bar. Amazing!
Food and service excellent. A little $$$$ but worth it. When I want a steak that is where I go.
In recent memory, the food seemed a bit different from four years ago. The waitstaff had their narratives they give to the diners about the du jour selection, which I always thought was cute. What I saw fascinating was the fact that they actually served sirloins Pittsburgh rare. I was thrilled! So of course, I got that. And an ahi tartare. That was good. The outer part of the steak was really crunchy and honestly bland which I didn't expect, but with the steak sauce, it wasn't bad. More than anything, the dining experience makes up for any fault with the food.
J. Gilbert's is a terrific place when combining atmosphere and good food - steaks are truly fantastic!! It's service has always been somewhat so-so and unfortunately they've raised their steak prices to where the cost advantage they used to have vs other Washington steakhouses is no longer. Wish they still offered a customer the best prices for a delicious steak.
Excellent atmosphere well presented restaurant with very good food. I would recommend getting the fixed price dinner which gives you a salad a piece of filet mignon crabcake and crème brûlée for dessert well worth the price! Cheers!
Good food and generous portions, but generally very salty.
Great Service!. I went there the other night with my boyfriend for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised. We thought it would be a nice version of Applebees but it was much better than that. He ordered the steak with salmon and I ordered to the steak with crab cakes. The creme brulee was one of the best I have ever had and their crab bisque was equally as good. Besides the food being good I really like this restaurant for the service. We had two young men who were great!! Everyone at the restaurant knew the menu and were very accommodating. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great Atmosphere. Good Steaks. And the service.... I ate at J. Gilbert's last night with a several friends for dinner. We ordered several drinks, salads, salmon and steak entrees. The food was enjoyable, but not memorable. The ribeye was a popular choice among the group. I don't think it was the best steak we have ever had. But, it certaInly was tasty.
The restaurant sat us in a small room so that there was some privacy. There was not a great deal of noise or commotion. We had adequate lighting and we all felt relatively comfortably. The restaurant provided a great backdrop for the start of a fun evening.
The service was questionable. While our server was attentive and waited only on our table. The server seemed a bit confused about our orders. He also repeatedly returned to assure me that my drink would soon arrive, interrupting the conversation. But, overall, I think the service, while delayed, provided fodder for detailed conversation about the service. It became a great icebreaker - which I don't think is the primary goal for service delivery in a restaurant.
Would I recommend it to others? Yes. But, not first. Would I return? If I'm in the neighborhood, I think I will stop by.

Been going to J. Gilberts since it opened years ago. The food is super! The steaks are truly remarkable and a bargain vs other DC known steakhouses. The service could be a notch better. J. Gilberts has become a McLean hometown spot as many McLean residents frequent there often. Good place!
Perfect steaks. J. Gilbert's is not a cheap steakhouse, I would say it's semi-fine dinning. Therefore, you can expect the service to be top notch. Everytime I come up to NOVA I always eat there and have never had a problem.
Just had brunch here, and everything was fantastic! It was a really cozy and comfortable atmosphere with lots of options for the unlimited brunch. The manager, Misty, was so nice to us and encouraged my friend and I who hadnt seen each other in a long time to stay as long as we liked. It was so nice not to feel rushed. 10/10 and will be back to try dinner!
First time trying this restaurant which happened to be on Thanksgiving. They were super busy, but seemed to do a great job of handling the crowd.
First off, Jody (might have been Jodi), was AMAZING waitress. She's engaging, but not overbearing and her positive demeanor really made the dinner a great event.
We started our meal off with a glass of Meiomi Pinot Noir with shrimp cocktails. Oddly enough, one shrimp cocktail was amazing with firm, juicy, fresh shrimp and the other was hard and a different texture. It was almost like one was shrimp and the other prawns? I switch out with my wife as I can tolerate a lot. That was a disappointment, but we were not going to send something back given how packed the place was. The good shrimp cocktail was amazing and probably the best cocktail I’ve ever had.
Our main course was maple plank salmon and tomahawk steak. My steak was perfect and her salmon was delightful. My brussels sprouts had a great flavor and texture but the cauliflower was cold and bland. The steak carried the meal, but as a cauliflower lover that was disappointing. I’m assuming they were just busy and honestly trying to keep up with the crowd.
The deserts were Creme Brulé and fresh berries. No complaints, they were wonderful.
We’ll be back, but I have to stick with 4 stars for now as our bill was north of $300 and we tipped well. For that price point the meal has to be spot on. I would give Jody six stars and I hope we end up in her section in the future.
We had such an amazing experience here. We got married yesterday and my new wife and I had a nice dinner in their amazing restaurant. The food and drinks were perfect. Highly recommend the lamb rack and the tortilla soup.
Very high marks for service and atmosphere. The slight dings on food are, while they are outstanding for steaks and salmon, some of their lesser dishes like fish tacos don't really cut it. The fish tacos were generally non-descript, with little fish. Mashed potatoes side came out room temp. Chicken tortilla soup was very good, but not at the same par as with leads noted. Salads were excellent!
The food was pretty good. The steak definitely had a wood-fired flavor. But it wasn't exceptional. The sides were average.
The service was fine. Again, nothing special.
We were in a relatively isolated location with a nice fireplace and very few other tables, but the main dining room was quite noisy when we passed it.
It's just a traditional steakhouse. It's not special in any way and not on our list of "have to go there again."
Our first time was a great experience. The atmosphere is inviting & relaxing and service was excellent. The steak salad & lobster salad were delicious choices well presented. Ask for Dishante and enjoy your culinary experience!
The food was good but I felt there were a couple things missing. I ordered poblano au gratin potatoes, but there was no flavor or poblano that could be detected. The steak was supposed to come with garlic butter, but that wasn't on the stake either. The crab cake was proportional, but was a little on the fishy side. The onion rings are delicious and go great with all of the sauces they provided. Not pictured is the creme brulee which was so good I could have eaten it by myself but was ultimately shared by three people. The atmosphere was comfortable and the sound level was such that we could still carry on a conversation at the table. Will likely come back.
J. Gilbert's is a really good spot to go for dates, dinner with friends and business dinners. The atmosphere offers a nice setting for all occasions. The food is delicious. We had the seafood platter (shrimp, scallops, salmon and a crab cake) and the filet & crab cake entrees, both meals were plentiful and falvorful. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and on top of his game. We never had to wait for anything and he checked in us to ensure our dining experience was fantastic. J. Gilbert's is a must try, you will definitely return again if you do.
Service, atmosphere and food was amazing from the Host who seated us, to the wait staff and all employees encountered. The Petit steak combo with lump crab cake was chef kiss. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture of our appetizers which was calamari’s and delicious mussels.
definitely one of the best steakhouses in the area but due to their construction, services was terrible this time which it used to be way better.
bone-in ribeye with mushrooms and risotto sides is awesome 👏🏻
Definitely make a reservation. We were treated respectfully and given expectations as it was an extremely busy Mother's Day. Overall, wonderful. Staff were bustling hard!
My husband, son and I had an amazing brunch on Sunday. Everything was so delicious and the variety of foods was incredible. The manager, Misty, was very attentive and friendly. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and will be back.
We made a reservation for a group of 9 for a birthday and we had a great experience! Food was probably 3.5/5 but the service was 5/5! Jodi our server was the sweetest waitress I’ve had in a very long time. She was very accommodating to our large group, all with a genuine smile on her face. Roman our other server was very helpful as well. We got lobster Mac and cheese and the mushroom risotto as sides which were excellent! The filet mignon was average, and the wagyu burger was the most disappointing dish we ordered— I ordered it medium done but it was definitely well done with crispy ends and no signs of pink in the middle so it was too dry. Our friends got the special with the lobster tails which you should also probably stay away from as it was very overcooked. However, the sweet service made up for it all. They brought out the cake we brought and even served complimentary dessert for the birthday boy. We had a great night!
Service was very polite and the ambiance was nice. I really enjoyed my crab cakes. The mashed potatoes and green beans were fine, but a bit salty. I liked that the steak was cooked correctly but it wasn’t very flavorful.
