Love these cupcakes! They're showy with just the right any of frosting, but not too much. The cake is super flavorful and moist.
The staff is cool too. Really helpful. This is always a fun place to go.

Muddy's is a really excellent local spot to go to and they stay open late if you get a sweet craving like I do around 9. I would recommended the Plain Jane. Definitely a better price and flavor than Gigi's.
AMAZINGNESS!!. I had a chocolate craving so I went to get some Prozac, along with some other treats. The staff was so friendly!! The cupcakes are amazing and not over-priced. The cupcake to frosting ratio is perfect!!
NO GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. Best cupcakes in Memphis (try the Prozac!) They are delicious cupcakes but have no gluten free cupcake options. I'd hate to have to go to Gigi's cupcakes because of the lack of gluten free availability.
Muddy's Bake Shop is the best place for cupcakes, hands down. The people are super helpful and nice. The only downside is the number of patrons in front of you in line, because the cupcakes are so freaking good! Try the Tomboy!!!
Yummy. A friend brought me some cupcakes from Muddy's. They are great! Moist and the icing isn't too sweet. Just the perfect amount of icing to cake. Can't wait to get to Memphis and visit Muddy's in person.
Yum is all I can say!. I love cupcakes but most the time they are two sweet. I can eat on one cupcake for two days the frostings are just overwhelming. But not Muddy's. I sat down and ate the whole cupcake and could have ate another.

Simply the Best. Everything about this bake shop is charming, from the decor down to the names of the cupcakes. I've tried almost every single flavor and have never been disappointed. Beware there will be a line on any given weekend, especially around a major holiday, but it is well worth it. Their chocolate cupcakes are especially delicious, super moist and just pure perfection. For the eight months I was a vegan, Muddy's got me through it. I still get a vegan prozac if they have it on the shelf that week, it's that good. Their pies and cookies are also lovely, so it's a great place to take someone who isn't a huge fan of cupcakes. There really is no competition. The business itself is beautifully run with great morals and an overall great attitude. Muddy's is a breath of fresh air, and with places like this, how could you not eat local?

Amazing!. Muddys has the most amazing cupcakes Ive ever had! I have been eating there for years, sticking religiously to the Prozac, and finally decided to branch out. I started with the basic chocolate chip cookie-- there is nothing basic about it! This ooey-gooey, melts-in-your-mouth cookie is amazing. I have since tried many other items and have never been let down. I make the hour-drive at least twice a month!
Never gets old.. Muddy's is one of my favorite things about Memphis, and I love this city. I never get tired of it. Their cupcakes are incredible, and their cakes are even better. One of the first things I ask people when they have recently moved to Memphis: "Have you been to Muddy's yet?"
I Love Muddy's!. Good, quality baked goods that consistently deliver. Yesterday, I tried the buttermilk pie for the first time...OMG!! So good. I go to Muddy's at least once a week.
Great Cupcakes. Much better than the other chain bakeries in town that give you tons of icing to hide bad cake flavor (GiGi's) Try Red Velvet!
Highly Reccommended. I absolutely love this bake shop! I visit Muddy's at least twice a week. They have an extremely quirky inviting environment with friendly staff. Love the fact that they have Plenty of Vegan Options and that they're constantly changing to keep things fresh and exciting! My absolute go to is the Vegan Peanut butter bar for only 0.65 is a steal that anyone will fall deeply in love with. I give this place two thumbs up! These folks know what they are doing and they do it so well!

Seriously. This is the best place on the planet. I have to have at least one cupcake a week from this great place. Favorite flavors range fro Strawberry Fields Forever to Prozac. The hidden treasure is the seasonal Hot Chocolate. Been going here since it opended and they really appreciate their customers.
Wow. I'm not much on sweets, but my girlfriend is and has to have her fix almost daily. She's recently been coming to Muddy's for vegan sweets and raves over the taste of the cake. She got me some Pozac cupcakes, as well as a few others, for my birthday last week and I was blown away after my first bite of one. They're open late as well. We dropped in there last night on a special trip after dinner and she got another cake fix satisfied. I HIGHLY recommend Muddy's for your sweet needs!
It's amazing! The staff at Muddy's are always super friendly & just as sweet as the treats they bake up! Frankly Scarlett's, pistachio cookies & the Hummingbird Cake (THE most delicious thing ever) are all my guilty pleasures! Muddy's is a must try! You'll fall in love with everything about it!
I have a hard time finding the words to describe this place. All that I have to say is come early and be ready for the most awesome cupcake and baked food even. This is truly a gem of the Memphis area.

Simply the Best!. A quaint shop Iff the beaten path, but big on flavor. I have been several times. Some of my favorites are the "Frankly Scarlett"- Red Velvet, "Pink Lady"- A chocolate cupcake with strawberry icing, and a "Hot Chocolate"- Dark chocolate cupcake with Marshmallow topping!
Every cupcake I've had from Muddy's was very dry and difficult to eat because of the lack of moisture, until I actually visited and had a freshly made cupcake. I tried a vegan chocolate cupcake that was possibly one of the best cupcakes I've ever had - great texture and flavor. It seems Muddy's cupcakes have a really short shelf life but are really good when they're fresh.
Just a Cupcake. It's just a local cupcake shop. I took some girls here when they first opened. It wasn't that crowded but my super hipster friend fell in love with it right away. She even tried to apply to work here but failed. Little did I know, a couple years later, this place is always crowded and overrun by hipsters in tight pants.

This place is just awesome! My wife and I stopped by on a whim to grab some goodies for a weekend with friends. We got 5 varieties of cupcakes, some mini coconut pies and peanut butter cookies. Every item was delicious. I can't tell you how many times I heard "this is the best ____ I've ever had". Highly recommended.

Break the chain...and go to muddy's! if you are looking for a non-chain dessert spot, look no more--this is my favorite locally owned place in Memphis. they are proud of their local ownership and they should be. the pies are great...although they are known for their cupcakes. the crusts on the pies are amazing. one word of caution don't go there for the coffee--sub-par is a generous description. although while i was enjoying my pie someone complained about the coffee and the employees completely agreed and said they are looking for a replacement and were actually taking suggestions from customers--great idea Muddy! upgrade your coffee and you might just have the hottest dessert/coffee place in all of Memphis. you can order all the desserts as well for parties...the staff is super nice...you have to try this one!
OMG!!!. I first tried these at a Zoo event & a friend I was with said she knew the owner. Luckily, they were only giving out the small sample size because I did go back a couple of times. Took my son there & he's not a big cake fan. I got the lemon & he got the red velet. We actually ended up eating half of our own & sharing the rest. We will deifnitely be back.
The best! Love coming by on a weekend evening for dessert. They did a great job on my mom's birthday mini cupcakes (pre order only).
Prozac!. If you don't like Muddy's, then you either don't like chocolate or you are dead inside. Also if you don't like chocolate you might be dead inside.
The Prozac cupcake is the best cupcake in existence. No other Muddy's cupcake lives up to it when I try to veer from my old faithful. So if you have something bad to say about Muddy's, perhaps you have not had the Prozac? I don't know. I love this place. They have some pretty serious Hello Dolly bars too.

It is a small local bake shop hidden away from the main frame, and I was pleasantly surprised!!
The cakes are of limited selection, but are really good, yes they maybe a little smaller than some of their competitors but the price by far justifies this at only $1.50.. the competitors are definately not 60% larger justifying their $3.95 price tag.
The chess pie was ok, and the only cup cake I was not 100% happy with was the Lemon - too tart FOR ME!!!
Like all food it is a matter of taste and preference.. and I have to say bang for buck and taste this is by far the best for cup cakes!!
Perfect for One. I really like the fact that Muddy's has standard flavors as well as some different combos that "pop". I haven't had a bad cupcake from there yet and the nice thing is when you want one or two cupcakes instead of gorging on half a dozen pre-made, cookie cutter (pun intended) cupcakes from some mass marketer, this is the place to go.
The atmosphere here is fun and cute and kid-friendly. They also have good pimento cheese, but it was a little dry today. All in all, a good bet for a heavy sweet tooth, such as mine.

Yum!. I've had their cupcakes on a few occasions. I have to admit there was once where I thought... ehh... I could do better, but 3/4 times they knock my socks off. They're always worth the price.... the cheapest cupcake in the land! Love it! Good thing they're across town or I'd have a weight issue.
Voodoo Cookies. Hehe strange to go to a famous cupcake place and get cookies but I'm not an icing kinda person. Cookies were delicious tho. Took half a dozen cupcakes to a friend's birthday and they all loved them! Be prepared for a line...tho we did go on Valentine's Day...possibly our mistake.

I can understand how people expecting a traditional bakery might be disappointed-they don't do fancy icing jobs, and they focus on what they do best, which are cupcakes. I'm a little surprised their cakes aren't actually made to look like giant cupcakes!
Muddy's is a local business stating they use only quality ingredients. They have a great attitude, and most of the people working there provide good customer service.
The icing to cake ratio is a little high to my tastes, but obviously people love it (you can order icing "shots"!). I have been disappointed a couple of times with the customer service, but I still like to celebrate with a treat from Muddy's.
Yummy. Muddy's is pretty good... I love the decor and the cheerful employees. I have tried almost everything on the menu and it is all delicious. It can be pricey though, so watch out! (It's pricey especially for me because I usually end up eating 2 cupcakes each visit!)
New York, New York!!!. So I just stayed in my little box, eating the same awesome Capote cupcakes from Muddy's...until my parents brought home the New Yorker one night. Sorry Capote, I may never go back! Same great chocolate flavor with cream cheese icing on top!

the Strawberry Lemonade cupcake is to die for! But I also highly recommend the pimento cheese. It's the best I've had since moving back to Memphis. (It is spicy and light on mayo.)

True love. The most moist cupcakes you can get. AMAZING ICING best toffee bars, lime bars, original cookies, pies, cakes, and PIMENTO CHEESE. Staff is very friendly. If I died of a diabetic coma from this place- not only would it be my ideal death, but I'd bet you there is a muddy's in heaven. If you love sweets, you'll love this place.
Cupcakes! What's not to like?. The day I found Muddy's was a happy day indeed. Office birthdays are suddenly so much less awkward with cupcakes! And delicious cupcakes they are. I think they are the perfect size, cake with good flavor, and delicious buttercream frostings. The Capote is still my favorite, but one must branch out and try Strawberry Decadence or the Grasshopper or anything with banana or peanutbutter! And there's not a thing wrong with the Plain Jane or the Classic. Muddy's other baked goods are always delicious, as well. I highly recommend strolling over after a movie at the Paradiso and picking up a sweet treat to eat.
I am always on the look out for a good sweet treat. Muddy's is a great little Memphis's gem that I will continue to visit every chance I get! I actually saw Muddy's featured on the cover of a Best of Memphis magazine that ,believe it or not, was displayed on the counter of another Memphis Bakery!!! After reading the article and receiving awful service and average goods from the bakery I was at I headed straight to Muddy's!!! The cupcakes at Muddy's are amazing and the staff was very professional and friendly. They have found a new loyal customer in me. If you have not tried Muddy's you are missing out!!!
The Best Cupcakes in Memphis. When my sister came to visit from out of town, I immediately took her to Muddy's. She fell in love just like me! The cupcakes are moist, flavorful, and decadent. Plus, the cupcake names are a lot of fun!

I happened into Muddy's Bake Shop a while back and was delighted by its unique charm; A bright and colorful haven from the otherwise ordinary East Memphis.
The cupcakes are as delicious as they are aesthetically pleasing...a rainbow of tempting treats! The staff is fun and friendly...like visiting friends.
A description of their menu would never do this place justice. One must visit for the first time and experience for themselves. I promise it will be the first of MANY!
Simply put.... Cookies were great, cup cakes were tiny and rather standard.

I've found a coupe of pretty good cupcake places in Memphis, and one really horrible one too, but my favorite Memphis cupcake place by far is Muddy's Bake Shop. Muddy's is sweet in every way: good service, cute environment and really good desserts.
The cupcake itself was delicate. Light, moist, with a more reserved chocolate flavor, the cupcake is art itself. This is, I believe, the same cupcake used in the Capote. The same bitter notes of coffee and burnt caramel gingerly nudge their way to the foreground of your mind before retreating again with each bite.
Muddy’s is everything good in this world. It smells of happiness. It oozes whatever good dreams are made of. If you are having a bad day, go to Muddy’s. They will make it all better.  These people work miracles with butter and sugar and possibly black magic. Actually, scratch that. If it’s magic, it’s good magic. Muddy's Bake Shop holds a very special place in my heart. Muddy's is the type of place you go into when you are having a really terrible day. One look at the place and you cannot be in a bad mood. It's like walking into a big ball of sunshine. Then, when you take a bite of a cupcake, your life is instantly the greatest in all the land. I have tried an assortment of Muddy's cupcakes, the Grasshopper and Strawberry Lemonade being two of my favorites. There is always something new and exciting to try. This particular time I tried the Chocolate Chimp (dark chocolate cake, banana icing) and Hubba Hubba (lemon cake, lemon-coconut filling, lemon icing, coconut topping). Although this was our first time eating Muddy's cupcakes inside Muddy's bakery, we've sampled their cupcakes several times during special birthdays and parties where it was always noted, "these cupcakes are from Muddy's." Could it be the new Memphis tradition? It certainly seemed that way, so when Christopher's birthday rolled around last week, Atticus and I didn't want him to miss out on this special honor. We ordered the cupcakes with sprinkles, of course, then threw in a ginger kip bar and pistachio cookie for the variety. Atticus after one and a half cupcakes tamed his sugar high pretty well, limiting his bursts of energy just to the length of booth seat. There has been a big commotion about CUPCAKES! But then again, what’s not to love about CUPCAKES? Muddy’s was started back in 2008 by Kat. It is a small company that is operated by the whole family. The place is so cute with so much color and has that nostalgic feeling of the 1950s.

Really cute shop and you can see in the back of the bakery from the street windows. The Prozac chocolate cupcake was divine, and the Bday cake one with cream cheese icing second. A slice of vanilla cake was our least favorite, but definitely recommend all the cupcakes. Ironing boards for patio tables 🙂 Great dessert stop on a road trip!
I had the most delightful visit to Muddys Bake Shop on Broad Avenue! Their cupcakes were absolutely fantastic, and the peach pie was a real treat. I almost couldn't resist picking up some of their cute hand towels too. (I will definitely be back!) Plus, the chic outdoor seating area with bubbles added a charming touch. It's got that wonderful local feel that makes it a must-visit spot!
I attended a baking class with a bridal party (there were 9 of us there). The instructors, Leah and Alyssa, were so sweet, fun, and clear in the class! They had a lot of pro tips and break based educational bits.
We made scones which usually seems daunting but they offered a lot of tips that helped all of us, many of us being non-bakers, less than beginners! And by the end we all had really great baked goods to take home.
Also, they gave us a coupon to use in the store on baking supplies for after.
Great experience, great instructors, great recipes, great food! Go have fun!
Finally able to visit Muddy’s a couple weeks ago. Cute place. Everything looked delicious. I bought four cupcakes and a banana pudding cup for my dad. He gave it two thumbs up. I was told the cupcakes were very yummy because I left them in my dad’s fridge! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜† I will definitely go back.
Those cupcakes are delicious! We had the mini chocolate aka Prozac, the strawberry and the vanilla. But we loved the vanilla wafers too! Definitely worth a stop! Staff was super nice and professional!
I am from out of town, but placed an order with Muddy's for my sister's birthday cake after reading positive reviews. I had a seamless experience with this bakery - from the ease of online order to the fast and friendly pick-up. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly in-person. Even though it was my first visit, it felt like I was a regular. The cake looked very professional and exactly as I'd requested. It tasted great, as well! We had the Plain Jane (vanilla). The cake itself was not overly sweet and the frosting was that classic homemade buttercream you know and love - just like grandma used to make! Overall, a great experience.
We loved our class at Muddy's Bake Shop! We did a baking class at Muddy's for my friend's bachelorette trip, and it was such blast! Leah and Alyssa were amazing instructors, and they even customized the class to make it special for our Bride to be! We learned so much, and the goat cheese and herb scones we made turned out delicious! I will definitely be back here next time I'm in Memphis. 10/10 would recommend!

I've been a supporter of Muddy's Bake Shop for nearly ten years now, which is insane to think about! The location off Sanderlin was originally the hangout spot for my friends in high school and during normal times, we still love to meet there when we're all together in town. This was my first time to the Broad Avenue location even after passing it so many times on the new bike lanes. I'm very pleased with the social distancing measures they have in place and everything was done in a professional manner. I purchased one small box of Capote cupcakes for a friend and these two boxes for myself (one didn't make it home because I couldn't resist). No one turns down a Muddy's cupcake (or any of their other fabulous products) so remember to shop local and be safe out there!
