The food is delicious and Talbert is a one-of-a-kind host. I highly recommend this quaint little spot to anyone looking for authentic soul food!
Delectable, desirous and tasteful. Pleasure your palate with one of the most notable southern soul food restaurants in Memphis TN. First class service from the owners and servers. It's fun and truly a down home atmosphere where all are welcome. The food is simply delicious.
I had the sample of the oxtail dressing & fell in love with this place! If you've watched the movie Ratatouille, then the scene where his life flashed back to his childhood with that familiar taste...that was me!! They brought tears to my eyes just thinking of my Big Mama!
Some of the best food that I've ever had with excellent customer service. I had the sample plate of chicken, dressing and more with hot water cornbread. I got some peach cobbler to go and can't wait to dig into it tonight!
Jim and Samellas is a true example of southern hospitality & kindness. I enjoyed everything from beginning to end. The food, atmosphere and people were all amazing. Everyone felt like family. Can't wait to go back!! PS..I have to try that sampler plate:)
I absolutely love this restaurant and atmosphere. The staff is always generous and the food is delicious!! ❤️
If you're looking for a Great home cooked meal and genuine at home feeling of being loved then Jim & Samella's House is the Place to be.....
Booked this restaurant for an event and my VIP guests were blown away! Had worked with Mr.Talbert over the phone and worked it out. Love it so much that we rerouted a family road trip to go through Memphis to share the experience with my family and to reconnect with some of the nicest people on earth!
Spent a delicious afternoon with Ms. Luci 😊 at my beautiful friend Talbert's Jim & Samella's and boyyyyy let me say...it was an Absolutely scrumptious moment! Go by and get some tasty viddles. Your tummy will be happy!
Great place to have dinner or lunch. On Saturday's you have brunch occasionally.
Have I been living under a rock?!
Jim & Samella's had a fifth anniversary celebration dinner and that was the first time I stepped foot in the door.
Talbert Fleming is Jim & Samella's grandson and HE CAN COOOOOOK!
On this day, I had one of the best meals I have ever eaten in Memphis!
He began with a salad made with veggies from Knowledge Quest. He pickled the fresh vegetables and then sautéed some of them in brown butter.
His next course was a Soul Roll with collard greens inside a fried egg roll with yam sauce.
We then cleaned our palates with pineapple sorbet that had small pieces of pineapple inside.
The main course was a choice between chicken or oxtail with dressing.
The vegetables were green beans or Brussels sprouts as well as sweet potatoes.
Dessert was a choice between sweet potato pie, pound cake or bread pudding.
I cannot believe how delicious everything was. My chicken was falling off the bone. Everything was so well seasoned. You will never need salt or pepper in this restaurant.
The restaurant is located in Talbert's grandparents' actual house. The decor is such that you totally feel at home. It's such a delightful experience!!!
What makes this an even better experience is knowing that the restaurant adopted Ida B. Wells Academy to buy school supplies for the kids.
I hear on Sundays, they get so packed that you can't get a seat and they run out of food every Sunday. Someone there said "you have to be posted up by 10:30 to get in."
The restaurant is only open three days out of the week. They have set menus for each day. I will have to try every single one!
This is an INSANELY AMAZING restaurant in the heart of South Memphis.
Food and Service was Amazing! This was my first experience and I will definitely return.

Mr. Talbert Fleming and the rest of the Jim & Samella's crew have amazed me! The restaurant is straight out of a great dream! The food is magnificent! I love the intimate atmosphere of the house. It is never crowded. It is small enough to have you imagine that you are in your own home! The three best menu items there are the BANANA CARAMEL CAKE, CHICKEN WINGS, and OX TAIL DRESSING!
They have one of the best restaurants in the entire country!

Oh my goodness! The food was DELICIOUS! Thiswas my first time having fried lobster tail and I definitely wasn't disappointed! They were gracious enough to open for us on a Monday and we couldn't be more appreciative! My son (who is a picky eater) ate his waffle, shrimp, and lobster tail! Those fried potatoes onions & bell peppers had the right amount of season! We ate so quickly we didn't even take a picture of our food! 20 out of 10 definitely recommend! The service was spot on and they were extremely friendly!
We were coming in from out of town for thanksgiving and they were closed that Monday. They opened their doors for us and cooked us some amazing fried lobster, waffles and home fries. Nicest people and fantastic food. Can’t say enough good about this place!
Have been coming for YEARS! Today I enjoyed Sunday dinner sweet potatoes cabbage pinto beans fried chicken fried fish hot water cornbread Mac n cheese heart of South Memphis
. Brunch food is good-all food is always good!
This place is TRULY Down Home Great Eating, with a little something extra special. Amazing Cooks, Hospitality makes you feel at home, like you in Grandmama's dining room. If you are in Memphis, Jim & Samella's is a must! Bring Your Apettite, cause they feed you.
The most slept-on soul food restaurant in Memphis! But ya'll keep on sleeping, he sells out of food quickly and I want it to be enough left for me!!! 🤣
What a place. Spotted it on Google and were warmly embraced, wonderfully fed and sent on our way with a smile from the whole family. Superb.
The food is delicious ! Recently had meatloaf that was very tasty & the way I like it with brown gravy.
Took my mother here for Mother's day lunch. The food was absolutely amazing. Wonderfully prepared, home cooked food. Oxtail and dressing, is excellent. Banana Pudding for dessert is spot on. BUT you have to eat the yams. Best yams on the planet. Now that I have told you about the food, let me say that the food is not the best part of the experience. It was as if I went to my families house to have lunch. Everyone, both employees and patrons, in the restaurant was genuinely friendly and happy to be there. Go for the food and leave remembering the atmosphere!
Small family operated restaurant with few items on the menu but is integrated in the community and practicing free meal for all needing once a month.
My sister and I were on vacation in Memphis from Florida and heard such great reviews about this restaurant and I just had to try it. However, when we called they were closed for renovations, but that did not stop Mr. Tolbert from stopping his repairs and opening up his restaurant, and I am so glad that he did. Because baby, he served us the best chicken and waffles I have ever tasted and not to mention that homemade syrup.
Sitting at his grandmothers dinner table and listening to the history of how him and his mother serve these southern down home meals made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I must go back so I can experience the full treatment and get me a glass of kool-Aid.
