I’ve lived on the Peninsula for 25+ years and Mexcal is our go-to place for authentic Mexican cooking. When you enter the restaurant, you feel like you are being welcomed into your grandma’s home. Regulars are greeted by name and every order is taken with the utmost warmth, care, and attention. Prepare to wait about 20 minutes for your food, but know the wait will be worth it for these delicious made-to-order dishes. For us, the star of their menu is the sopes. Great with chicken, al pastor, and carne asada. Plus fantastic barbacoa on the weekends! No hay lugar donde preparan la comida con tanto amor como lo hacen ustedes- ¡mil gracias!
This is definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area and there are many to choose from in the area. Some might argue other places have better burritos or tacos but this is my favorite because they have good tacos and burritos BUT they also have other items like Chiles rellenos, quesabirria, and they're consomé was hellllla good. Anyways they're also pretty quick, good prices, and friendly
A small, cozy restaurant. We were returning from Yosemite and were really hungry. We were in the mood for Mexican food and found Mexcal on Google. We were not disappointed at all. Everything from the location, staff, menu and ambience looked authentic. Since the menu didn't have a description of the dishes, we were searching on Google to understand what they are. I ate the Chili Verde (and, I highly recommend it!) which is one of the top dishes of this restaurant. I loved it! It was delicious. The pork curry had the right amount of tanginess (I usually don't like really tangy food) and everything else on the plate complemented it perfectly. The Indian in me was happy to eat this dish. The rice portion is small so I ordered extra. Sadly, I couldn't finish the pork curry as I was full by then. But, if I'm ever in this part of the world again, I'll definitely eat here.
The servers were patient and welcoming. 5 stars for the food and the service.
Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. Their English was weak and my Spanish is weaker, but good intentions triumphed. I am vegetarian so I requested a breakfast burrito with no sausage, just eggs, cheese, beans, and rice, with some salsa. The result was succulent, juicy, heavy, and tasty, the warmest comfort food you can imagine. Truly nourishing. And at a great price too. Highly recommend.
Place is just fantastic. All the meats are amazing. I highly recommend anyone looking for authentic Mexican food to try this out.
Fresh Food Always Lupita always with great Customer service 100% recommended
Really nice inside with the wall murals. Good service.Food-wise:
Chip N salsa excellent
Fish taco had good quality fish, tortillas are homemade but flour not corn and not that flavorful, missing cilantro
Ribs were good, can order again
Fish fillet same fish as in taco, good
Mojarra Frita looks good but turns out we don't like mojarra.
Vegetables fresh. Was able to substitute peppers and onions with beans and rice.
Carnitas tostada.. excellent
Lengua tostada .. good. Asked for no cheese and no sour cream. They loaded it with avocados!
Next time see if they have corn tortillas. Would come back, good quality ingredients. Pretty low on flavor though had to add lots of salsa. Ask for limes and cilantro.
Our friend, Dave, recommended eating here for dinner as it's one of his favorite places. It was incredibly good. I suspect there are several items better than the burrito I had because the tostada we had was incredibly yummy. Dave's shrimp were perfect, and I enjoyed the tomatillo to balance the avacdo. I'll be returning.
