The Fence has been around since I was young (more than thirty years) and its always been simple, straightforward, and good. The fish sandwich basket with fresh cut fries is the standard but they have good burgers as well as seafood dinners. Sit by the river, watch the ducks, and soak in the sunshine on an afternoon in central PA.
Neat little place.. I like to patronize local businesses when traveling, and this place was no disappointment. Friendly servers, good food and a nice price. On a warm September evening with the river on one side, cornfield on the other and classic drive-in restaurant aura, what could be better? Recommended!
A Summertime Tradition. Only open during summer months, the Fence has been a local favorite for a long time. I even saw several out-of-state plates in the parking lot. Don't look for atmosphere here, but it is so fun to sit outside along the river bank and watch children skip stones across the water. The fish sandwich is small (comes on a hot dog bun), but it is excellent! The tartar sauce is very good. The shrimp and scallop baskets are also enjoyable. The portions were small and the prices went up from previous years, I was told.
I Miss The Fence. The fence is closed for the winter season and I am soooo sad! I miss taking my children there for a great time and addicting fish sandwich. I moved here this past spring and fell in love with this restaurant. Make sure this is the first place you go to once spring comes; you will never best disappointed.
Very good food 99.99% GREAT!. The fries are fresh, hot and delicious. Fish sandwich is the best I ever had. Awesome milkshakes. Coleslaw is the best. Hot ham and cheese was extremely good. The staff always had a smile. Friendly service. Wonderful river view.
Great Food!. Seasonal drive-in restaurant right along the Susquehanna River. Carhop service along with picnic tables and an indoor dining room. Famous for its fish sandwich baskets. Us locals watch the calendar for it to open in the spring. A local favorite that hasn't changed much over the years. The only place I know that still sells Lemon and Orange Blend drink. Very good food.
The bread comes out fresh like they just baked it. The fries are so good but the Greek fries are next level good. Definitely worth eating here if you're concerned with eating healthy and knowing the quality of your food.
Everyone told us we HAD to go to The Fence and try the fish sandwich. We were a little skeptical, but the the food did not disappoint! It was the best fish sandwich we ever had! And the view is incredible
By far the best bbq joint!! The pork belly burnt ends are heaven on earth! They're mouth watering! And The staff was amazing! Super nice!! Love everything about this place! Will definitely be going back!
Service is very friendly, though be prepared, this place can get packed. Be sure to check in on the Yelp waitlist to avoid having to wait a long time for a table. Even going at off hours during the week, it can still be packed. If you go before 2pm, you can grab a delicious coffee from Bungalow 40 next door (owned by the same people!
This place is an institution. This was my son’s first public outing beyond the dr’s office because it’s just that important to me. The weather always feels perfect here, no matter what’s happening just 2 minutes down the road. Sitting out st the tables allows everyone to enjoy little slice of heaven on the river. We make all our friends and family come here and get a fish sandwich basket because ITS JUST WHAT YOU DO. Do not forget to end with a chocolate milkshake. It’s a thing of beauty.
I could never say enough good things about The Fence. My favourites are the seafood sampler and the scallops. Their french fries are amazing. The staff is always so friendly, and they make the best chocolate strawberry milkshakes! My partner and I love frequently this magical little restaurant nestled against the beautiful Susquehanna river. I highly recommend making a trip to The Fence!!!!
Any place this mobbed by locals, and any place that maintains a 4.7 or higher with hundreds of reviews is always the real deal, and both of those criteria fit this place. And even while mobbed we found a table, got waited on quickly, got the food quickly and enjoyed it. I'll leave superlatives like "best" out of the review, but the fish sandwich and milkshake were damned good. If I lived closer I'd be here quite a lot.
