Friendly staff and great meal. Ribs, gumbo, chicken, peel and eat shrimp were very good. Very nice sized menu and very good creole food. Good inside and outside seating.
They have $1 oysters for Happy Hour daily! We got two kinds - Opus and Acadian Pearl. We are not too knowledgeable about the different oysters, but they were both so good and full of flavor. Was tempted to order more, but we’ll come back!
BBQ St. Louis Spare Ribs (half rack)
Hickory smoked, tangy KC-style sauce, Cajun fries, BBQ beans, fresh corn & arugula salad.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Bell & Evans chicken, mashed potatoes with chicken gravy, maple-braised collard greens, orange-honey butter biscuit.
Corn bread was delicious too!
I believe our waitress was Alex; she was wonderful, patient, and kind. My father, sometimes, can be difficult deciding what he wants to order, funny for me, but requires patience from a waitress, but Alex was stellar.
What we ordered: Appetizer - New Orleans BBQ Shrimp - the sauce melts in your mouth and it is wicked good. Bowl of Gumbo (which my father loved), order of Jambalaya "Me-Oh-My-A" - amazing, and my father did not like the Shrimp and Grits, but he was able to order Shrimp Po'Boy which he liked. I had a Hurricane cocktail which was delicious. I highly recommend coming to Maxie's. It was enjoyable and delicious.
Everything was delicious. We started out with the complementary corn bread, it was very good! It felt like we were eating dessert first. Always a good start to a meal. We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, the breading was perfect. My husband ordered the catfish po'boy he really liked it. I ordered the pecan crusted trout with sweet potato hash and arugula salad. Wow 😲 it was great. I would have lick the plate if it was socially acceptable. 😊
I was here with a group of about 15 for a birthday. The staff was friendly. The food was great and everyone liked their meals. They are able to provide gluten-free options on a lot of their dishes. The drinks seemed a bit watered down with too much ice. I will definitely try it again.
Maxies food is great! Loved all the food we got. Honestly though, the service is something to rave about. We had Ryah as our server. She was absolutely fantastic. She knew the menu so well and guided us through the entire experience. Her warmth just truly made mine and my fiancés experience. We will come back just for her!!
The place is legendary in my world, just the mere mention of the name conjures dreams of jalapeno margaritas, icy trays of oysters, steaming fried chicken and amazing catfish. My partner and I reserve it as a special monthly treat and always leave feeling absolutely relaxed and comfortably stuffed. Been going here for well over a decade and it's maintained it's quality and atmosphere. The grateful dead and widespread panic posters outside the bathrooms are definitely a friendly nod for folks of my persuasion as well 😉
This place is amazing. Trust me you will not be disappointed with the drinks. The service and the food is top notch. The food is very flavorful and tasty. This is like my fourth time going. I will definitely go back again. It’s like a Louisiana style restaurant with a twist. Keep up the good work.
Was an amazing experience. Our server was great as was the food.
This will always be in rotation for us. Closest thing to New Orleans style oysters in town. Great atmosphere and great food. Highly recommend the Tofu “Wings” for my vegetarian friends!
Two different friends named this place when asked for dinner recommendations, and I was not disappointed. A quick glance at the online menu, and I had to be there.
We came during happy hour and tried oysters for the first time ($1 oysters during happy hour)! They are surprisingly less disgusting than I thought they would be. The staff was helpful and explain how to eat them as we were clueless.
Next came the cornbread and they were NOT stingy with the cornbread. Completely enamored with the food so far, we realized we hadn't even ordered our main course yet!
We ordered the catfish dinner and the BBQ sandwich. The catfish was perfectly cooked with a crunchy cornbreading. The BBQ was tender and flavorful. Absolutely amazing all around.
We'd been wanting to get in to Maxie's, so in order to get a reservation with only a day's notice, we decided to take an early dinner (4:15pm).
Upon arriving we were seated immediately. The restaurant had just opened, but the dinner traffic had already started, and by the time we left shortly after 5 the joint was already packed.
We ordered two drinks, a Hurricane and a Maxie's French Kiss. Both were perfect.
Quickly following the drinks was some complimentary cornbread for the table. Sweeter than most cornbread I've had, and very crumbly, but delicious.
Next up were the entrees (we skipped appetizers KNOWING we were having dessert (s).
Andrea Dexter ordered the 4 piece fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes, maple braised collard greens and homemade flakey biscuit. In her words "every portion of this meal was perfect. They have a hot vinegar at the table...make sure you use it on the chicken."
I had the Frogmore Stew, a mix of shrimp, ocean fish, mussels, and chicken chorizo with corn and onion in a light broth with toasted bread. If ANYTHING needed changing, it might be the chicken chorizo, but with that said...I didn't leave any on my plate.
Dessert posed a challenge: what to choose?
We opted not to choose, and instead to order one dessert for the table, and one to go.
First up was the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. ANOTHER flawless victory for Maxie's. Perfect texture, great taste, not too sweet, and with some salted nuts to balance it all out.
Second Dessert was had hours later, and was the original reason we had chosen Maxie's as a destination. The Peanut Butter Pie comes highly recommended, and we can see why. Most peanut butter dessert, in general, are far too peanut butter forward. This dessert, however, perfectly balances chocolate, a delicate peanut butter cream, salted candied nuts, and a crisp crust to deliver an incredible bite.
Service throughout the evening was flawless, and we could have thrown a dart at the menu and gotten something else that sounded amazing. We look forward to going back very soon, and kick ourselves for not going sooner.
Straight to the top of our favorite spots
I love this restaurant! All the food is amazing! I try new things each time and now half the menu is my favorite. They also have the best Friday Fish Fry in town. Three large delicious pieces of fish with waffle fries, can’t get any better. No need for ketchup, use the tarter sauce for your fries! Don’t forget to go early, great happy hour deals.
I had the shrimp and grits. It was wonderful but it is spicy. I like spicy so it was perfect for me. The service was great. Our table was way off by the bathroom, so it wasn't the best spot, but it was fine. Make a reservation. It is busy.
The perfect environment for trying oysters for the first time. They always have two types of oysters. They have a great happy hour drinks and oysters. Food is fenomenal. You get sooo much delicious yummy food on your plates every time. Great dessert options too, it's always changing so you get a chance to try different things. Definitely recommend the jalapeno margarita for sure!
Maxie was a very I treating resturant. Definitely a creative menu and not your average type of dishes. It took pieces of New Orleans and put their own twist to it.
I went on $1 Oyster night and happy hour. The oysters were fresh. The service was Awesome. The food was a hit and miss o some dishes. My table was a party of 5 and we picked a bunch of dishes to share. The portions were big but some dishes lacked the taste of the south. Even with that being the case, I would definitely go back again.
The restuarant was clean and everyone had masks on. And they even have dividers up in between each party. We all felt safe.

We recently dined at Maxie's with some friends whom we are travelling to New Orleans with in Oct. The guys enjoyed raw oysters in the half shell at the bar. Neither of the guys had ever tried raw oysters and said they were quite good. The decor of the restaurant is very inviting with a country feel. We had chicken fried chicken, crab cakes, ribs and pork cheeks. All of our food was delicious. Service was excellent. We will be back!
