The Indian food here was pretty good, but what really stood out was the Aloo Bhindi. This dish consists of okra, potato, and spices (amongst other things). I even tried re-creating this dish at home, but it was not as good as the restaurant. This dish has an interesting stirfry-like composition, where in the potatoes are actually dry and not in a sauce. Combined with the flavor profile ,it’s very interesting. Even when I’ve tried to make myself, it seems to come out a little little bit slimy. But here, the okra was dry and very tasty. If you come here, I recommend making the aloo bhindi one of your dishes.
Refreshing food. Ordered a mushroom and potato gravy and we really enjoyed it. The waiter Sam was extremely kind and made sure we had a good time.
Would come here again.
They do offer student discounts if you show your student ID Card which is great.
First time trying Gorkha Palace, all I can say is wow the food was amazing best Indian food I have ever had. The veggie Momo was excellent, that signature tomato chutney is the boss, I could drink the stuff. The garlic cilantro Naan was great. The chicken biryani medium spice was perfect. Definitely will be back.
Rashmi and her team did a fabulous job of catering our wedding in May 2023 in Minneapolis, MN. We cannot say enough good things about Gorkha Palace! We were regular customers of Gorkha Palace even before we wanted to have them as our caterer for our wedding reception. Their prices may be a tiny bit higher, but it is worth it - all the ingredients they use are organic and local, which we appreciated. Rashmi, the co-owner, was very flexible in accommodating our many special requests, including guests’ dietary restrictions and our last-minute venue change. The catering team was punctual, had excellent communication, attended to our guests’ needs, and left the venue in a clean condition.
For our wedding, we did a buffet-style meal consisting of 3 entrees, rice, and naan, plus mango lassis and samosas for cocktail hour. It was the first time for many of our guests trying Indian food, so we were a bit nervous, but those nerves were put to ease when we saw our guests go back for seconds (and thirds), and compliment the food to us all night long. The lamb vindaloo was a hit, and got wiped out in no time! Being of Indian descent, we can certifiably say this food was top-notch in its balance of spices! Indian food was a significant part of our Indian-American fusion wedding and we couldn’t have done it without Gorkha Palace! Overall we would highly recommend Gorkha Palace for their catering services, delicious food, and dine-in restaurant as well :)
The food here is a cut above and the service was exceptional. I had chicken biryani and my friend had chicken curry. Both were superb. The biryani wasn’t as heavy as the dish commonly is at other restaurants, and I preferred it. I’ll definitely be returning. Also ample free parking in the lot is a nice find in Minneapolis.
Overall, I'll give it a 4.3/5 - from an authentic Biriyani perspective.
Good: Very nice and clean environment, really nice customer service, soft nepali music in the background, nice outdoor seating area was also available, available city parking, steamed chicken momo with tomato sauce was 5/5.
Could be better: Chicken Biriyani was not Indian style. Was more of a Nepali style Biryani as much I have had before. Ghee and saffron smell was missing and had quite a lot of dried fruits (almost like a fried rice). I bit on whole spices like cardamom twice, which may ruin the taste for many. Water refilling was slow. Many tables had water jugs for self refilling but mine didn't.
P.S: Non Indian subcontinent people will probably like it more than what I did.
Delicious food and good service! I highly recommend the veggie pakora, palak paneer, and masala chai. Good portion sizes.
AMAZING. Always so happy to come here. Impossible to be disappointed with anything on their menu. Great vegetarian options. One of my favorites in the twin cities. Never a wait and they have a parking lot. Great Indian beers.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I visited today. The last time I had eaten here was close to when they opened and the menu has dramatically changed for the better (for me). Namely, there are far more dishes on their menu that do NOT include cilantro, which I'm unfortunately unable to enjoy in noticeable amounts.
We enjoyed the veggie biriyani, veggie curry, palak paneer, and Momo combo. I enjoyed the bison Momo the most of the combo, and the palak paneer was very different than what I'm used to in a good way! I think they must char the spinach a bit before putting it into the dish, but whatever it is they do to it it's VERY flavorful.
I was with a friend who has a lot spice tolerance, so I look forward to going back and getting things spicy!
Thank you for the delicious meal and friendly service, and thank you for being open during the icepocalypse today.
I like their food and the atmosphere . We also have some momos those are good too. But I find prices are little high than usual Indian restaurants. Service is good. They have good parking lots.
The food is great but quite expensive for how small the portions are. I appreciate the fact that everything is organic, and the quality is there, but the prices are far steeper than any I’ve seen for Indian food. There’s also an 18% surcharge for every order, which contributes to the feeling of a pricey meal, though I support living wages for restaurant workers!
This place is such a neighborhood gem. Super high quality, delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and wonderful owners. I’ve loved dining out here but they were also super generous and accommodating when I asked about a chai tea order for my sister’s wedding since her husband’s family from India and London really enjoy chai. The chef even came into work early to make it in time for me and everyone raved about how delicious the chai was! Thanks for making my sister’s day so special!
Kusuma is a great server. I got the best experience with her suggestions. Momos are authentic and mind blowing especially the chutneys that complement them. Love the cleanliness and the calm vibe.
In my opinion, the best Indian/Himalayan restaurant in the TC. I’m a chef and have Ayurvedic interests/experience. I’m born and raised in MPLS, and I have tried every Indian restaurant in the city. This is the best. Their korma might be my favorite dish in the city.
They forgot my naan last night with my order and I don’t even care, neither does my daughter, cause in her words, “it was still delicious without the bread”.
I’m not paid by them or anything, their food is just absolutely phenomenal. The paintings of the Himalayas are epic too. I go there on my birthday every year because it’s my favorite food and it’s a special place. Please support this business. The service staff is very kind as well. It’s a hidden gem of mpls.
Very good food. Very proud to be organic and locally sourced. Could use some lunch specials, pricey menu. The Momo appetizer combo is really good, forgot to take a picture before it was almost gone!
Really amazing food, and even better customer service. They go out of their way to make sure you have a nice experience, and they make you feel like you’re their guests, they take care of you.
Pakora reordered was not the same as earlier, momo achar I would definitely add more tumeric and blend it(not saying it’s not good),but bhatmas sadeko needs to be better (was not sadeko-not spicy enough),overall good restaurant and good food
The food was great. The service was above and beyond. Such a wonderful place to eat at and share a great meal with great friends. Highly recommended!
