What can I say? Hands down the best German joint in the Twin Cities. I've lived my entire life here and Gastof is by far the best if you want German comfort food, or are hungry at all. I was just there tonight actually, and it was superb once again, it never lets us down. From the bratwurst to the rouladen, their food is fantastic, and if you appreciate German culture and beer like myself, you will love this place!

Excellent German food and good service. The waitress had a recommendation for me on a beverage, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The German potato salad was very good, the red cabbage, sausages and beef were perfectly prepared and tasty. I definitely recommend this restaurant as having the best German food in Minneapolis.

I love this place. Great food, great atmosphere, great staff, and Mario is wonderful. It's so rare to find an owner who will actually interact with the guests. I've even seen Mario serving beer to people during Oktoberfest. I come here for every special occasion, and I've never been disappointed.

The food is good not great, but the fun party atmosphere and all the staff making you feel like you are family takes this German style restaurant over the top! A great time every time I come here.

We went to the Gasthof last Saturday evening for a surprise birthday party for my husband. The staff worked extremely hard to make sure that we had everything that we wanted and the food was excellent! I chose to order the platters of food and we ate family style - everyone raved at how good the food was, and they let us bring in our own birthday cake and kept it cold for us until it was time to serve it. I would recommend the Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit for any occasion.

Great service and real authentic German food. Ordered their platter for two and it really can easily be shared by four.

Loved, loved the whole atmosphere. Wonderful wait people, very good and generous portions of food. My 2 year old granddaughter thought it was awesome. It was our family Xmas get together.

Oh my word what's not to love. From the cheerful atmosphere to the authentic German cuisine Gasthof is a happening place. The food is incredibly delicious and you get generous helpings. Live musicians stroll the restaurant and at all your favorites German or not. They are truly fine entertainers interacting with the family, and kids. On Saturdays they have a polka band in the basement open to all family members until 11 pm then adults only. We shared the Bavarian platter for two and yet we brought home left overs. The Gasthof serves up a party atmosphere and almost everybody is celebrating some special occasion. The decor is quintessentially German with nice woodsy quaintness. It brought back memories of me and my wife's time living in Germany.

Always an excellent meal at Gasthofs. We were immediately seated on a busy Friday night. Our server was amazing at making sure our whole meal was delicious and ran smoothly. The beer and food were great, we ordered one of the platters to share and was amazed by the sheer amount of food that was provided. Absolutely stuffed with leftovers to bring home. Also most of it was pretty good, which was surprising. Whenever I see a huge platter of food I immediately think that it can't be all that great. Gasthofs was the exception to the rule. Would definitely come back when I am hungry again in a year or so.

We went for dinner with our food club and had a lot of fun. The cheese plate is ginormous and worth the $18. Lots of savory meat and potatoes variations as expected. The saurbraaten was the crowd favorite. Supper club prices.

I was part of a group of 11, the service was impeccable. The waitress made sure all of our needs were taken care of. The gentleman that came over to sing, and play the accordion was entertaining, and he made us all feel like we were part of the Gasthof family.

Not able to fly to Germany for dinner? Then head over to Gasthof’s! Delicious authentic traditional German cuisine in a cozy environment, you’ll feel like you are in a pub in Germany. The service is great! There is also an accordion player making the rounds throughout the restaurant. My husband and I ordered two huge meals that we ate off of for days! We also enjoyed delicious German beers. And the apfel strudel for dessert ended our meal on a high note! I love this place!

We've been here multiple times over the years. It's a great place with a fun atmosphere, good service, and great food and beers!!! My wife selected it for her retirement dinner a couple years ago and we all had an amazing time. Tonight we were there to celebrate our 37th anniversary. My favorite beer is the Hafbrau original (it's as smooth as silk). My favorite Entree is Jaeger Schnitzel (although I keep trying to convince myself to try some of the others). I think it has been featured on "Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives" for the monster sausage (a friend ordered it and it was amazing). In addition to the main menu they also have a bar menu that has lots of good stuff also including an amazing pretzel!!! The waitperson took our picture and asked what we were celebrating and the kitchen sent us a free piece of their Black Forest cake as well!!!

Went during lunchtime saturday so no live music. Most things were excellent like the beef stroganoff, chicken alfredo with spaetzle, sauerbraten, rouladen, cheeseburger, goulash soup, salads. Dont recommend very plain chicken spaetzle soup, other chicken dishes that come on platters (everything deep fried is too much for me). Great beer, wine, cocktails. Good place for groups.

Great atmosphere and a good selection of German beers and food. Highly recommend the platters in order to get a good variety if you're not sure what you want. They come with a shot of delicious apple schnapps to top it all off!

This is one of my favorite places to organize a group dinner. The food is fantastic, the beer is okay but Das Boot makes it better. When you’re done with dinner head on downstairs and enjoy the night with some music and dancing! ziggy ziggy ziggy oy oy oy

Great service with great food. Come any time of year but arrive early if going to the Oktobefest Celebration because it gets busy. Have a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot and a piece of Black Forest Cake. All the cuisine is tasty!

Great place and I assume it gets popping on special nights! We had an afternoon beer on Sunday and watched the Vikings game with just a few others in the bar. Lots of brew on tap!

Delicious foods and veggie options. Wonderful accordion player there most nights. Gave us free cake for celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was such good Black Forest cake we forgot to snap a pic before devouring. Trivia on Thursday!

We got the platter for two and still had two lunches the next day. I loved the parmesan chicken with spaetzle (white sauce) and the beef with raisin sauce (dark sauce). He loved the wienerschnitzel (veal). The atmosphere is really the start of the show though. Chanting, shots, accordion players and make sure you ask for the snuff after the meal. Very loud though, not good for the older folks who want to hear about your recent vacation.

I think this was my third time there. This time was with friends. The food is always amazing. The beer boots keep flowing and the tableside accordion players make the night a great experience. Can be a little on the spendy and loud side but always memorable.

We came for Oktoberfest, and this authentic German bar experience is the best in Mpls. Drinking from the boot, Hammerschlagen, live Polka band that can play some other hits, it's fantastic! Just don't steal their giant glasses, they frown upon that.

Love this place. Absolutely great atmosphere, amazing food, and a huge selection of beers. Easy to say this should be considered a Mpls staple. If you're visiting the area or living here...this is a place to add to your must stop/try list!!

As always the food was amazing. There were a few birthdays in the back room with us and that just made the atmosphere even better.
