As a sushi guru I have been looking for my new go to place in Minneapolis. So far, this place is in the lead! If you are a fan of sashimi they have some of the freshest I have tasted in Minnesota (I used to live near a fish market in Japan). The specialty rolls are all great. My favorite one so far is the Salmon Family roll. The cooked food is also pretty good and if you are interested in trying squid that is prepared pretty well, try the squid ginger yaki. I was very disappointed with the beef tataki given the price. They have Toro (fatty tuna) here as well which was pretty average compared with other sushi restaurants in the U.S. I am a huge fan of ordering take away from here. Trying to find parking near this place is a nightmare. You'll probably end up paying to park in a ramp. The waitstaff are in a very big hurry to get you in and out of the restaurant even if it is not busy. Although she was very nice, I had to explicitly tell my waitress that we planned to stay awhile (and the place was not busy) If I am dropping over $100 on a meal it is not unreasonable to want to sit and enjoy it over an hour.
In short: great food, highly recommend as take away or ordering through Bite Squad. I'm not sure going there in person is worth the bother.
Visited here with my son who attends the U of M and is a huge fan of this place! (Very close to campus.) I honestly never thought I would be a fan of sushi, but this is absolutely delicious. Nice variety of options. Service was great. Highly recommend!
Really nice restaurant. Great sushi. Huge seaweed salad. Great miso soup. The guy near me had pork ramen soup and it looked amazing!
Good sushi, good prices, ive never had to wait long, i brought my parents who dont like sushi and they were able to find other things they liked.. one time they had "my 600 pound life" on the tv and they were removing fat deposits in that episode so uh that was odd 😅
Had the ramen. Loved the ramen.
Service was prompt and courteous. Lighting is soft, ambient sound, reasonable prices.
By no means am I a sushi connoisseur, l have to a few times a year, maybe a little more. I can't really compare it to sushi in NYC or LA. I like this place, perfect for the college student and visiting family members. Prices are very fair. Service is not overbearing. Only problem is that the tables are indeed sticky.
The service was extremely impressive!
I ordered "hibachi salmon" and it came with a simple salad that is complemented with a tasty dressing to form an awesome duo. The onion soup that came with the salmon was also simple but I haven't had any better onion soup, it was perfect. The salmon itself was great but not extraordinary.
I was introduced to the "fried ice cream" here, and although its name might be misleading, the dish itself is extremely creative and delicious!
Great service. Nice staff. High quailty dishes. Would recommend over other restuarants in the area.
For the location this place is a great visit. The happy hour sushi is always good and they are very accommodating for groups. We’d go here all the time in college and still make an effort to stop by when we are in the area. Staff is nice and you get a great variety during the happy hour as well.
I went there during lunch so only had the lunch special. My friends and I all ordered different menu items - two of us ordered a lunch box. Portions were decent and the food was good. One of my friends ordered the sashimi salad and she was thoroughly satisfied. From the prices I saw on the menu though, I would only want to come during lunch though.
We received outstanding service from our waitress during the lunch hour with our large group - she was attentive, prompt, and kept our beverages (largely waters) refilled. Also dealt with all the separate checks really efficiently. The food is always very good - standard Japanese menu with hibachi, bento-style boxes, and sushi.
The women who sat my friend and I at a table did not seem happy at all, but our waitress was a joy. She was fast and efficient and she presented herself well. The food was good for the price and the appearance of the place was okay.
Nice place to grab a bite after listening to a lecture or attending a late night class. They have 30-50% off a ton of fancy rolls after 5pm, and 2 rolls a person for three people plus dessert for all came out to less than $40, without tip. That's a hell of a deal.
The sushi itself is pretty good, but it mostly caters to the American audience with a wide variety of deep fried rolls and desserts. This is not a good place to bring vegans, those with peanut or seafood allergies, or just people seeking out a super healthy meal.
The place normally has at least two tablefuls of U of MN students munching away, but has a huge amount of tables and rarely has wait times. Definitely a great option for cheap eats late at night!
I'm so happy I discovered this place today! I should have gotten her name but the service was excellent. Also the haiku roll was delicious. Both rolls were a good size and I think I got my money's worth. Will definitely go back.
