There was a burger special listed on their menu the day I stopped in with my family. This burger had a thick slice of brisket on top of the grass fed beef patty. Perhaps the tastiest burger in the twin cities. Not sure how often it is available, but it should be a regular menu item.
Went for brunch on a hot, lethargic summer Sunday. Two dishes with freshly smoked melt-away beef brisket came with golden delicious breakfast potatoes. The hangover hash added some soft scrambled eggs, broccoli and summer squash to healthify and lighten up the load a bit. The special benedict came with two pillowy poached eggs, rib-sticking hollandaise with just a hint of lemon, and solid deck-o-cards sized biscuits that crumbled but were buttery and soft.
Simple, laid-back gem of a neighborhood eatery.
Pro-tip: there's are a lot of popular donut places popping up these days, but few will ever beat the little balls of cinnamon-sugar coated heroine that are Chef Shack mini-donuts. Save room to indulge in some.
The Chef Shack Ranch is a hard place to pin down. The decor is eclectic antique (a bathroom wallpapered with the pages from 1950s magazines, wall art made from well-worn cake pans, the classroom map of Minnesota I remember from eighth grade geography), but the Caesar salad includes trendy ingredients like kale chips and quinoa. Brisket and pulled pork are prominently featured on the menu, in tacos and the signature “Big Boy Ranch Plate”, but there are also vegetarian-friendly tacos and a tempeh Reuben. Most intriguing of all are the Indian spiced mini doughnuts, a state fair classic back from a sojourn in Bangalore. The interesting cuisine and down-to-earth atmosphere attracted a wide variety of patrons on the Friday we visited, from heavily tattooed college students in cutoffs and flip flops to party of eight celebrating Grandma’s birthday dressed in their Sunday best.
So delicious!! Take our-SO fast. Less than 5 min wait. Got the meat plate and it was amazing!
Sunday brunch at Chef shack was spot on. Immediately greeted as we walked through the door. Seated ourselves, was brought waters and the menus and filled in on the daily special and what wasn't on the days menu. I went with the breakfast nachos, with pork, scrambled eggs, black beans and fresh tortilla chips. The salsa had some kick and plenty of flavor. She went with the bison burger, which was topped with a fried egg, and the burger came out cooked perfect and juicy, with hand cut fries. I also had to have an order of thier twin cities best mini donuts. But seriously, they are the best. We will be back soon.
Great food! Kinda on the high end as far as $$! $4 a taco, a little high priced $3-$3.50 would be more accurate! Or do like a 3 for $6 or 3 for $8 also, its box wine.... $6 for a small glass.. make it $5 and ill show up all the time! :) great service!! Really awesome feel as far as the location and interior! :) the owner likes animals and so do I! The brisket Tacos were Bomb!!
Food was very good, and the vibe is quaint and homey. I went on a Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised that trivia was going on. It seems as if the staff enjoys working there, and we're attentive. The food seemed over priced for the portion sizes. A great place to go for a night out with a significant other or a group of friends!
One of my favorite spots in Minneapolis. Locally sourced food with an unbeatable homemade quality. Not at all uppity. Very relaxed local ranch environment yet extremely unique! Very friendly staff. The mouth watering food keeps me coming back time after time. I can't go more than a few weeks without satisfying my chef shack craving. Just ask my family and friends ;)
Fun and funky casual vibe with chef-driven menu inspired by their food truck offerings. Thursday Date Nights are an incredible value. We had two fabulous burritos with bison, black beans, & kim chee sour cream, house made corn chips, a beer, a house made sangria, and an order of their signature spiced-sugar dusted mini-donuts fresh from the fryer. All for $25. Decor is eclectic. Vintage wood booths line the perimeter, shabby chic pressed tin tiles line the walls, and there are colorful old maps and campy decoupage decorations scattered about. Warm service. We'll be back.
Amazing good, great vibe. Can't beat it for the best grilled, smoked and seasoned meat and ribs in the midwest! I feel so welcomed and at home here. Sangria is pretty wicked too
There seems to be some kind of smear campaign due to the anti Trump sign outside the business. When this place actually served breakfast lunch and dinner, the food was always excellent, the staff were kind and pleasant, the atmosphere always welcoming.
My personal favorite place to go with my girlfriend - the best beet burger in the world, and the most incredible mini donuts. I’m so sad that the restaurant closed but happy that the catering and food truck survives.
Limited menu, but fresh made delicious. Vegetarian options. Mini donuts. Parking in front and back. Pokestop next to it and gym across the street that is reachable from the tables by the window in front.
went just before closing, liked that it certainly wasn't pretentious in decor or presentation. We liked both the food and friendly staff. will visit again and again. intend to bring in law's when they visit.
