Original, inventive, healthy vegetarian options. The veggie sambusa was great. I didn't receive a sauce for it so I used some Cholula and that gave it the kick it needed. I tried the veg Jambo bowl with African rice and spicy sauce (it's not that spicy). All the reviews on here raving about the breaded cauliflower are not messing around. It's tender like chicken and peels apart like it too. I was afraid I got chicken for a sec. They throw in some lightly pickled cucumber, carrot, red cabbage and kale. It's a lot of food!
I ordered the Manchurian taco the next time I went. It's very sweet, resembling the jambo bowl minus the rice. Honestly, rice would be good with it too.
Expect a 15 minute wait.
I go to Jambo a lot and try different things most of the time. So far I've liked everything I've tasted. Really good food. The owner Jamal and the other employees are very sweet and friendly. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who hasn't eaten there.
Excellent and tasty food! I like how the food is made fresh and using a variety of fresh ingredients. I recommend trying the Jambo taco with chicken or lamb, the pineapple express rice bowl, vegetarian sambusas, and the mango juice!!
Also, if you have never tried camel meat before, definitely try the camel sliders!
The mango juice is as good as any I've had anywhere in the world, and finding that in Minnesota of all places surprised me! Also the Jambo bowl with fish is so much salmon for the price! All delicious. I'll be coming back.
My only little critique is that it was hard for the people I was eating with to find out what on the menu would be ok with their food allergies and intolerances. They did end up finding food they could eat after speaking with the chef.
I've had the chicken wings, steak sandwich with roasted peppers and jalapenos; topped with melted cheese on a crusted bagette, the loaded fries and the chicken bowl with the African rice. The Jambo sauce is "jammin". Healthy, fresh and delicious. Excellent food and excellent customer service. You owe it to yourself.
The Jambo Kitchen has great food. I really like the Jambo bowl. I also tried a Sambusa yesterday. Had the veggie Sambusa. Very good. I loved the dipping sauce. A little kick but it didn't overwhelm the veggies. I will be back for more! Easy to find parking and the owners and employees are great. Pick up a tasty lunch on your way to class or work.
Absolutely delicious! Simple, fresh ingredients and visually appealing too. Utilized the self order station and avoided the line. Nice outdoor seating area and free infused water!
Delicious food. Great staff. Had the Jambo bowl with the jerk chicken and it was amazing!! Will definitely go again!
The food tests good and it is clean. the service is very good also.
I highly recommend this place. try it out.
Amazing place and the food is magnificent. We got the Jumbo bowl with African rice and lamb. Delish!!!
I had the Haji recommended by the great mind behind the Jambo! Plus I'm from Arusha and they have a salad named after it.. Great vibe Great food!!
I just followed the lead of the counter staff and had a Jambo Nowl w Somali rice and the peri peri sauce. It could be called YUMbo Jambo
If I didn’t live 2 hours away I’d eat here at least once a week. Delicious and affordable!
Amazing service, with lots of food options ! Definitely my favourite joint in MN
Stopped in for the first time last night and everything was absolutely excellent! Can't wait to come back and try different items. Also, very friendly staff and clientele.
The lettuce bowl with chicken and Mediterranean sauce. Healthy and perfect lunch. Kudos!
The Jambo sauce here is absolutely amazing!! If you try nothing else do that. We got a lamb bowl and a beef sambusa(which I ate too quickly to take a pic). The food is great! The reason why this place got a four is for their food. The service is decent. They could definitely do some work to do more customer engagement and friendliness
Awesome place! Great food, amazing staff, and a great space. One of the things I love about Jambo is the art that is featured often.
Everything I have tried here has been good, but my fav thing is the wings. Super tasty! Oh, and do the Jambo fries. You won't be sorry!!!
While I ate lunch here I was already plotting my return. The seasonings! The tastes!! Gah, mouth watering as I write this. Even better- they are super community grounded. During Ramadan they set up a tent and heat lamps outside for late night dining. Super friendly people. Can’t wait to go back.
BEST MEAL I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME. I got a bowl; the rice was beautifully cooked, the chicken was grilled to perfection, the vegetables were fresh, and the jambo sauce was DELICIOUS. My girlfriend got the camel which takes a little longer to cook so they brought us tea on the house while we waited, and let me tell you, that tea cleared my pores and raised my gpa. Can't wait to eat there again.
We ate dinner here and it was so delicious! I knew it was going to be good based on how good it smelled when we first walked in. We had Jambo fries (fries with lamb and their sauce) and two bowls, one with coconut rice, Bianca sauce and chicken. The other bowl was African rice, lamb and their spicy sauce. I will definitely be going back!
Like many of the people that I talked to, I ignored this place for the past year because I assumed it was just a knock-off Afro Deli. I finally stopped in because there’s really no great food options on West Bank, and I loved t! The food is SO good and you get a TON for the price. They also use Pocket Points, and you can get a dollar off a sandwich, so I get the Haji a lot! There’s a bit of a wait for your food, so it’s not good it you’re in a rush, but it’s a nice place to sit for a bit to eat and quiet enough to get some homework done. I’d highly recommend it for any students frequently stuck on West Bank!
My goodness I think I found the coolest little modern African digs ever! I know I'm late to the party, but better late than never. I'm excited because I finally found an African joint in town I can take my wife to! Lol. Remember Tejas at 50th and France? Well it's like the East African version of Tejas, except at Cedar/Riverside. Yep, I couldn't believe it either.
The food is straight East African, just like my regular digs at Daily Cairo Grill on Franklin and Chicago. The difference is that because you're not going north Phillips, so you won't get nearly hit by cabs, or hit up to buy weed, or fear for getting shot. Nope. Clean, trendy, the place is lively with modern decor with bright colors, and playing Afro-pop in the background. Man you could even bring your mom!
I ordered the Jambo! Bowl with lamb, African rice, with Bisbaas sauce, which is the Somali pepper sauce. Of course there are non-spicy options such as Bianco, Jambo, and Mediterranean. I just prefer to sweat!
This place actually cares about presentation! In addition to the meat and rice, they put some nice veggies around to add some color and roughage. Hey we all need more of that right? Shredded carrots, pickled red cabbage, kale, and some pineapple. Nice touch. Ok so not hard core Somali, like straight up meat, rice, and iceberg "salad" with a wedge of lime. And no goat meat. But this is a WHOLE another experience compared to the other S Mpls African Deli's.
So the next time you want some African eats, do yourself, your wife, and your mom a favor and make a stop here! If it's nice you can even eat on the patio. Oh did I mention all-you-can-drink mango juice for $1.99? Yep that seals the deal.
I go here every Monday and have a chicken bowl with African rice........(Moreover u get 1+1 free bowl using pocket points.....)
This is a great quick bite between classes since it's so close to the U of M. Delicious ethnic dishes and friendly staff!
Absolutely delicious! My food was very flavorful, fresh, and unique. The staff is friendly, the dining area is clean and full of natural light, and the service is speedy. If I have one complaint it's that there is not a ton of indoor seating. Otherwise, my experience was fantastic. Definitely a great replacement for Afro deli.
Amazing food, very friendly. I had the camel sliders and they were scrumptious. My eight nine year old loved the sambusa. We also enjoyed the wings, chicken taco and kale salad.
Amazing food, wonderful staff! I have visited a few times now, and have always had a pleasant experience, but today went above and beyond that. I unfortunately didn't catch the worker's name, but thank you for finding brownies in the back for my friend and I! And to whomever gave me some tea to try, it was delicious! Thank you!
Lots of food options including vegetarian and vegan. Very tasty and very healthy! Good location on bus line. Nice service with a reasonable wait for food. Free WiFi and outlets.
Seating is bar style and not tables though so it's very casual. And some of the menu is slightly ambiguous but the server was helpful.
Great food. Great service. I had their soon to be released steak taco. I guess I was a guinea pig. But, I really enjoyed my taco!! I've always had the chicken Jambo! bowl with african rice and bisbaas. I love the bowls. I have been eating there at least once a week. It is a good healthy affordable dinner for the family. A bit far from my home in Golden Valley, but worth the trip.
Absolutely loved it. Had the chicken Jambusa with the green chutney. Also tasted the beef rice bowl and was great. Be adventurous and you'll be happy. Really cheap. I will be back.
First time in, I had the Jambo bowl with African rice, steak, and Jambo sauce. Service was great, even though they were busy. However, I was expecting something... More in the bowl. Flavors were good, but there was almost no color to it. Throw in a little diced tomato, cilantro, or even a little kale and it would've been a very satisfying meal! If I could've "made it a meal" with a little salad instead of fries, that would be a good option too.
Food is very fresh and tastes excellent. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. The only improvement I could see is that the wait time is often a little long. Great place if you aren’t in a rush.
