Locally owned !!!!! to start off with. What a breath of fresh air in food !! Everything was absolutely amazing and delicious. For starters the seafood dip was delicious , the seafood is local and fresh off the Docks! The Hush Puppies were delicious with the Butter.
Lily was amazing waitress she acted like we were the only ones dinning! Lily made sure are drinks never ran out , always a beautiful smile and wonderful person.
For the main meal we had Shrimp n Grits and the smothered Biscuit. The Best Shrimp n Grits in Town hands down ! The smothered Chicken Biscuit was just pure delicious, wearing the portions are huge well worth the price.
We asked Lily to talk to the manager who was another amazing person , Summer thank you for taking the time to chat with us ! Summer was incredible person and once again another wonderful smile to great you with ! You can tell all the wait staff enjoyed what they were doing as you looked around.
Also bring your Dog if you did not want to leave it at the House or your Hotel room ( if your out of town) . they even have a Dog menu for you to order off of.
We came here while visiting and had a great experience! Food was great! Cotton, our server was attentive and friendly! Recommend to anyone in the area.
There are 3 people in particular at this quaint bar on the creek that I thoroughly enjoy. Alex, a server and bartender with a contagious laugh and a jovial vibe. Look for the tallest guy in there!
Next is Emma, the sweetest, cutest bartender you’ve ever met. She’s extremely attentive and won’t have you ask for anything while she’s there.
Lastly, DeSean.. if you’re having a bad day. Go see him. He lights up the entire bar with his bright personality, and knows everything there is to know about this bar as a seasoned veteran of Shelter. He refuses to let you have a bad time.
Cannot recommend this place enough! Great food, dog and kid friendly (does appear to be more of a spot for adults) that does not require reservations! Finally, something great and uncomplicated when it comes to going out to dinner with the family and dogs in Charleston!
We’re here on vacation and it was a great spot for our last night out before heading home. There’s the option to get a plain beef patty or chicken breast for the dogs. Water bowls were also brought out for them as well as a milk bone appetizer. The vibe was great with karaoke! Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
We had the smash burger with loaded fries, kids had chicken tenders and we had their fried okra and pickles. The burger was amazing! All the food we ordered was good and fresh.
I’m sure we will be vacationing back here and when we do we will be sure to come back!
The food is definitely delicious! The only issue I've had a couple of times is my chicken being hot and fresh, and the rest of my food is cold. MAKE SURE the food is plated correctly so the temperature can be good all around. The parking can be a problem if you don't get there at a good time. Drinks are good and the service is good!!!
We’re visiting from Florida and came in late tonight night for a couple drinks. We sat at the bar. Both bartenders were amazing! Before our drinks were even empty they asked us if we were ready for another one. They got a nice pop towards 11:00 but never once walked by without asking if we were ok. I loved the atmosphere of the place. It was very relaxed and the music was great. When we return to the area we will definitely be back.
I cannot say enough about The Shelter Kitchen and Bar! They were so sweet and accommodating for our dog Sadie that was with us…they even have a doggie menu! Super dog friendly so I definitely wouldn’t recommend going if you don’t like dogs. The food was amazing and the manager was super wonderful. She keep that place going! Highly recommend for you and your fur babies!
Cool atmosphere to hang out in. Plenty of patio space and big bar area with lots of tvs for all the sports games. We only got drinks so I can't comment on the food. But servers were attentive and very friendly.
For those who live here and aren't just tourists, the magic of Shelter shouldn't be missed. Are there some things on the menu that aren't great? Yeah. The bog bowl comes to mind. But then, there are things that really are great. The brunch bog is really wonderful. And the prices are reasonable and a good value which in Charleston is becoming less and less true with each passing rental rate increase. The atmosphere laid back...if you don't come in expecting to be absolutely blown away, you will be surprised how it grows on you. Shelter is addictive.
The Shelter is one of my favorite places to go in the Mount Pleasant area. My first time there during a weekday lunch break, our server, Meg greeted us at the door immediately and she ended up being our server. Her positive attitude and work ethic was amazing and made my experience at The Shelter an extremely pleasant one. Her customer service skills are nothing like I have ever seen before, always refilling our drinks when needed and getting anything we asked for in a quick time. I will definitely be returning to The Shelter and always will be asking for Meg!
Wasn't a fan of the mustard based BBQ sauce for the low country rolls. Shrimp and grits were good but a lot of grits for only a few shrimp and pieces of sausage. The bouncer was very helpful though asking the age of my daughter and advising karaoke would be starting soon which helped us make the better decision of ordering take out versus eating in.
