In my opinion, the best place in Nashville. Friendly and attentive staff, great food, and a unique concept. Wish we had a place like this in Memphis!
Place is amazing, food amazing, and the experience was amazing.
We did the 5 course and was not disappointed, food was on point!
Staff, best in Nashville - server gave one in my party the shirt off his back (literally).
Trudy was so friendly and a pleasure.
Highly recommend!!
Great place with a great concept. Open kitchen with made to order farm to table ingredients.
Brian the bartender is a artisanal genius, and the staff works hard to make everyone feel welcome.
A must “to do” when visiting Nashville!
Stellar. Took a leap of faith with the tasting menu; flavor and presentation far above expectations. Kitchen staff and management were phenomenal.
Best meal ever. Our 3 day Nashville trip included 2 visits to the Chef and I. Incredible meal, service and experience. Will recommend this place 100%
My boyfriend and I reserved a spot at the chef and I for our ”nice” dinner while visiting Nashville. A tasting menu was a first for both of us, and it will not be the last! We were both absolutely blown away by the food. This was an ELEVATED experience. From the advanced techniques used in every course, to the presentation and, of course, the flavor, we could not have had a better experience. The staff was so friendly, the atmosphere was lovely, the food was absolutely delicious. Do not miss out on this superb restaurant!
We went last night for our anniversary and sat in the booth by the chefs counter. We had so much fun! The food was incredible! We had the 7 course tasting menu and it was stellar! Met the "I" in The Chef & I... she is precious! What an amazing experience! Definitely will be back!
So, first you have to know that this meal started off on a Saturday night and didn't finish until Sunday night. 4 of us had a reservation for the chef's table at 8pm Saturday night and due to restaurant delays didn't get seated until close to 9pm.
Moments after we were finally seated the area around the restaurant lost power. The staff didn't quite know what to do, they entertained us, and gave us two torched smores while waiting for the power to come back on. An hour later when it did not they gently hinted we should leave and urged us to come back and give them another shot. The head chef actually gave us his card and asked us to text him if we would come back and that if we were willing to do so dinner would be on him.
Consider us impressed so we changed plans and two of us returned the very next night. Btw we went to Halls steak house that night see the review.
The service and the food on Sunday night were both fantastic. The food was epic and the service equally as good. Sitting watching it being prepared was incredible Broadway theatre.
One of us had the 5 course tasting menu, the other did not. Both are great options.
Again, food and theatre go hand in hand and you will not be disappointed with either.
Two mildly disappointing parts. One, not that it really matters but the head chef who convinced us to come back wasn't really around and that was part of the sell. Secondly, on the same note, despite the promise of dinner being “one me” yeah that didnt happen either. All I will say to that is lesson learned. It was a great meal.
Highly recommend. I came with a group of four, and we sat at the chef's table. The 7 course tasting went well. Stop reading all these great reviews and just get yourself there, you will love it.
We ventured in for our anniversary and were offered the Chef's table. If you ever have this opportunity, leap on it.
Last night was unparalleled. It was a culinary adventure of exquisite wine paired with mind-opening flavor-exploding dishes brilliantly captained by Chef Eric assisted by Chef Matt. Seven striking dishes each crafted with panache and wit inches before us. Currated wines were paired for each dish by our guide for the evening, Mike, whose knowledge of the wine was only matched by his passion for music. He and the Chef team effortlessly navigated banter, walking us through the flavors along with the mindset for the ingredients or the combinations. Favorites seem impossible to choose, but standout moments from the evening include the Peri Peri, the Tandoori, as well as the Garam Marsala which left me quietly cursing its wonder. We came in as curious foodies and ended the night as though leaving a good friend's table. Thank you, The Chef and I for a night to remember. It's definitely worthy of a set of earrings ;)
Amazing!!! The entire experience was unforgettable. We went and had the Seven Course Tasting and I was blown away. Each dish was distinct and different yet they all fit together seamlessly. The Chefs were also amazing. Specifically, we got to watch Chef Arynne, Chef Eric, and Chef Jake work the entire evening and it was magical. The level of precision, passion, and energy was insane. All three of them were so focused on each dish and ensuring that they were exactly what they needed to be. Each dish was explained in detail and showed the level of expertise each Chef had. The service was also amazing. Our server Addison was great the entire evening. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would totally go back!
This place came highly recommended and did not disappoint. My wife made a reservation and called back to see if we could switch from inside dining to sitting chef side. Spoke to the owner and said the option is a must and will make it happen.
Once we arrived, all the chefs greeted us with a smile and catered to us throughout the evening. The food was simply amazing, both the 7-course chef's selection and peppercorn filet. The dessert was equally amazing but we were forcing it down because we were stuffed!
The highlight of the night: the dishwasher accidentally dropped about 10 plates and left with frustration. Though it was unfortunate, what amazed me was the whole team, servers, chefs and waitresses all stepped in, no questions asked, and handled the dishes the rest of the night. The camaraderie gave me goosebumps.
I highly recommend The Chef and I!
My daughter and I went here for a cooking class and then stayed for cocktails and appetizers. We were seated at a counter in the chef's cooking area where we had a blast interacting with chefs Matt and Eric. Our server, Addison, made some great menu recommendations and was very engaging. We both had a fun evening and will definetly be back.
Amazing experience. Super friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and great food. We had some really tasty appetizers and then a couple of our group did the chef’s tasting which did not disappoint. It had quail, cheeses, ahi tuna, lobster, and so much more. Other people in the group got the steak and salt pork, which they both really liked. Drinks and wine were also both really great. I highly recommend!
Always an amazing experience. Sitting at the chef's counter is the way to go. Chef's are fun and will put on a show. Food is amazing. Service is top notch. One of Nashville's best spots.
Wow. What an amazing gastronomical experience. My mother, husband, cousin and I came here for my birthday this evening. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu and I was blown away. Chef Jake and his crew put together some of the most flavorful combinations I’ve ever had. My two favorites were the tomato and burrata with little balsamic bubble bursts (probably not the technical term) and the trout almondine - with some amazing Brie butter compote that melted in my mouth and I would pay a hired hit man to find more for me. My Mom, cousin and I fought over the creme brûlée-because we got one to share under the pretense we were “too full”. My husband gave me one noodle of his beef stroganoff before devouring the whole plate- but it tasted heavenly. We are from California but I would come back just to eat here again. And make sure to order the Kick Start Your Heart as a cocktail or two…or three of them. Now I have to waddle to the airport. And my pics are of the shrimp boil and Tuna taco- also both amazing- check out the size of that shrimp!
Wow, great experience! Blend of tastes was amazing. Jim and Arayne were wonderful!
Fantastic food and amazing energy! Chef Sarah and her team are awesome! You can tell they enjoy doing what they do, and are happy being here. That translates into a joy that goes beyond just enjoying great food.
Had the five-course tasting menu and everything was superb. They accommodated our dietary needs and made us feel welcome and special. Highly recommend it!
Top two restaurants in Nashville, this one makes my list. I love food and have tried several chef tastings and the experience at the counter tonight with chef Aarryn Cole is going to be tough to beat. The 7 course tasting was an abundance of food that left me feeling refreshed, yet full of anticipating of what was next! We have her full reign to decide dessert and she did not disappoint. Ask her personally about mixing the ice creams. In Nashville, you must go and sit with her for dinner.
Our family has loved Chef & I since they were in the Gulch and absolutely love their newer location. It’s chef driven, food is absolutely amazing and you can tell all the ingredients are the best quality. They have the best martini in Nashville. Service is always impeccable. Can’t say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. Forget the chains/corporate restaurants - this place is owned and operated by locals.
This place was so amazing!
My best friend made reservations and we sat at the kitchen and wow! We were entertained by our lovely chefs Eric and Chris, and the food they pumped out was amazing! I am so full, and I have leftovers haha
We started with drinks: Me and Bobby McGee and Born to Run. I absolutely loved Me and Bobby McGee. It's like an Old Fashioned but made new in an actually delicious and flavorful manor! It hit extra notes normally lacking in the old fashioned, and if you follow me... You know I am an old fashioned person 100%.
For food, we started with 3 shareables: mushroom toast, cauliflower, and Brussels. I cannot believe I didn't get a picture of the shareables menu! Shame on me.
Regardless, just get those. The harissa mushroom toast was RIDICULOUS. When I say that my bestie doesn't like mushrooms but lives this, I'm not kidding. I love mushrooms, so I was already partially there. The harissa hits just right.
The Brussels are also amazing. They have this beautiful fresh crunch that can only be obtained with expert heat and finesse.
The cauliflower is ON POINT. My bestie doesn't like any cauliflower but theirs, and there's a reason. Just eat it. I don't care if you "don't like cauliflower."
For meals, we chose the recommended shrimp and fish dishes. They create daily specials and seasonal items, and you should definitely listen to the chefs about which dishes they recommend.
My shrimp dish was amazing. It had chorizo and a cornbread and this amazing sauce... Everything worked in beautiful harmony and had the perfect amount to savor each bite.
My best friend got the fish over this amazing asparagus rice that I'm excited to have leftovers of! I'm thinking of the delicious ways I can eat those bits!
We were having so much fun with the chefs, and they plopped down a bit of the pasta of the day (to die for oh my goodness! I'm so glad I have some of that to eat later) and this absolutely surprisingly delicious blackberry sage sorbet. I've never had sage in a dessert before, and that's a sad thing. I'll be trying to play with those flavors together all summer, no doubt.
If you haven't caught my drift yet, GO TO THE CHEF AND I. You will have the most wonderful time and most definitely not be disappointed.
Attended an event where Chef Jake provided a food tasting. After that food tasting, had to visit the Chef and I. The caramelized cauliflower and goat cheese is a must have. Did I mention that they smoke their own bacon? Do not believe the past reviews. Chef Jake is determined to memorialize your food experience.
