Ate there a fee times this week while on vacation. Pretty good bfast place. Was the grandsons favorite spot for bfast. Food was good, coffee plentiful and good pleasant service. Can get a bit busy so you may have a wait for a table. Would have rated higher but wife is gluten sensitive and this came up on her find me gluten free app, however they were constantly out of gluten free bread so her options were more limited than expected.
My teen kids and i had breakfast here for the first time. The Migas were some of the best i've had. My kids were pleased with the country fried steak and eggs, and the pancakes. Service was very attentive with drink refills and was very friendly. Will definitely be returning.
Buttermilk cafe is best in town for variety in breakfast. The shrimp and grits are excellent and the Benedict is a good choice to. On the weekend there is a wait.

Gold star breakfast in Gruene! Pancakes had great flavor and biscuits like pillows in gravy. Tasty vittles and great coffee!
Be prepared to wait 30-45 mins for a table. In my view worth the wait. Food is prepared well and cooked to order. Try local specialties. Migas as very good. We ordered from the breakfast menu.
Breakfast Like it Should Be. The facility is updated, clean and spacious.
The employees are very knowledgeable concerning the menu. They greet you with a smile. It's nice to dine in a friendly place.
Breakfast here is better than most any place around New Braunfels.
The Omelets are amazing. My Potatoes were great. OK, the biscuit is nothing to write home about, so I should have asked for toast.

Best in town. The Buttermilk Café was amazing. We had breakfast on Sunday morning and my snobbish traditional food self was in heaven. Real maple syrup on my son's French toast with strawberries. Real butter on my soft biscuits served with perfect shirred eggs. Great food, prepared to perfection.
One of the best kept secrets of the Gruene/New Braunfels area. Their breakfast and lunch offerings are amazing. Some of the best breakfast I have had in the area. It might take a little bit to get you seated but it is well worth the wait.
We had the Herb Roasted Chicken and Catfish. We thought our dishes were good!
Great Comfort Food! The chicken and dumplings, meatloaf and country ham were amazing and the sides were terrific too. Can't wait to dine here again when Im in New Braunfels!
Went on a whim. Saturday was my first trip to the Buttermilk Cafe. I was looking for somewhere new to try for my birthday.
I had the small chicken and dumplings. It was delicious! For my sides I had sweet potato fries and squash, both were great. I also gave into temptation trying a cup of their soup of the day "roasted squash"... wow. I wish I knew how to make that soup it was absolutely delicious.
I topped it off with a slice of buttermilk pie. I love buttermilk pie, their pie was sweet with a brulee like crust on top. Different than what I am used to but still delicious. My eyes of course were bigger than my stomach and I had left overs! =)
Wonderful!!!. Sunday breakfast was exceptional. The pancakes were so tasty and the bacon was very crisp. Our waitress was extremely busy, but we never felt forgotten. The "build your own breakfast" is a nice option. We live in New Braunfels and this will be our new favorite breakfast.
Delicious. My girlfriend and I have been here twice together, and we always fine it easy to share an app (the fried tomatoes and home made ranch are terrific), an entree (We LOVE the roast chicken, a half a chicken, super moist and tender) with three sides, and usually an apple cobbler. Hardly ever do I care for service at a restaurant, as long as the food is great, so I can't really comment on that. The cornbread is magnificent. You can taste the smoke, the corn, and just a pad of butter takes it that extra mile. I don't know what everyone else is talking about, we love it!
Coming from the mouth of a picky eater; The broken yolk sandwich was delicious. Egg, cheese & applewood bacon with lettuce & tomato, on sourdough. Simple concept with lots of flavor.
Very nice as usual was greeted by the owner. Was about a 5 minute wait, promptly the waitress took our drink order and brought out those and complementary butter and cornbread, those were very tasty. My steak is very good as is the Pozõale soup. Definitely a great place for homestyle cooking! I ordered my Staple Chicken "Country" Fried Steak

Bit Pricey, But Great Food. Man I read all the negative reviews and was really shocked. My experience was A+. I had lunch w/ a friend and it was packed full of people at noon, but we were seated immediately and our waiter (didn't get his name) was fantastic. Very friendly and quick. Our food came in 10 min or less, we were surprised by how quick it was. I had the pot roast (best I've ever had), fried okra (perfect, NOT greasy) and collards (OMG). My friend had a sangria, the chicken fried steak, okra and carrots. We both liked all our food. Their biscuits and corn bread are great, too. We got the "small" entrees so I think my bill was $12 (I drank water). Yeah, a bit much for lunch. But delicious and the whole experience was very positive. Lovely decor, too.
Great Place to Eat!. We have eaten at Buttermilk Cafe on several occasions. The food has been consistently great as well as the service. I have taken guests there as well. They also have enjoyed their experience also. The sangrias are great, the chicken and dumplings are outstanding and chicken salad sandwiches are wonderful. Order the sweet potato fries....a great choice to accompany any meal! You won't regret eating at this fine and reasonable restaurant!

I almost did not come because of the reviews below, but I'm glad I did! The sangria was fantastic! My fiancé had the cheeseburger & I had the small portion of meatloaf. I wish I had gotten the large portion so I could take some home. The veggies could have had a little more spice for my liking though. I had a very friendly waitress named Sam. Great service!
I've been here twice. Once was before the pandemic and once was recent. Both experiences were great. The place is small but cute. I like all the different seating options. The food is always perfect. I loved the corned beef hash. The employees are friendly.
This restaurant takes normal Cafe food to another level. We started our meal with fried green tomatoes. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I had the meatloaf. Don't let the peach tomato sauce turn you away from this dish. The sweet accent of the peach with the meatloaf is very clever. The sides were just as good. Real mashed potatoes, green beans and cornbread stuffing. My husband enjoyed his fried fish, but he thought the real star of his lunch was the black eyed peas. He said he could have just eaten a big bowl of the peas with cornbread. The decor was lovely and the service was great!

We are here around 8:30 am on a Wednesday. Called on our way to get on the waitlist as I’d seen that suggested from others. This particular day and time we could have gotten sat immediately so the call ahead was not necessary but hey, better safe than sorry!
They only serve eggs Benedict on the weekends and currently they are closed on Saturday so that leaves 1 day to get this item, big fat bummer as many reviews reference this item and I was hoping to try it . Plan B - I got the coastal dish and my husband got the grilled Banana Bread. My dish was delicious!! The shrimp were huge and plentiful (I think 5) The lobster sauce was delightful and seasoned perfect, no need for additional salt! Bravo chef! It does come with a side of buttered toast but I HAD to try a biscuit. It looked dry but alas it was so moist and flavorful that I didn’t even butter it.
Now my husbands meal was not so glamorous. First off it was cold and dry. I encouraged him to send it back and order something different but that’s not his style. He said it was edible with a ton of syrup. 🤦♀️ He said his bacon was great though! I did take a bite of the banana bread and I didn’t think it was as dry as he thought it was however it WAS lacking in flavor in my opinion.
Some reviews mentioned getting free muffins before their food arrived. I’m guessing they only do this when there’s a wait so we didn’t experience that.
The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Overall if you’ve never been here, give it a try!

The Coastal Breakfast with the Lobster Sauce was excellent! Highly reccomend. The deconstructed fruit parfait was nice. Also had fried green zucchini. The wait staff reccomended all the food and it was excellent. Very attentive and great service. Will be back!
Wonderful place with friendly atmosphere and very tasty food. Avocado toast and fried green tomatoes were absolutely amazing. Fresh and crispy toast with a lot of green stuff and very yummy tomatoes. It's absolutely worth to wait 10-15 minutes for a table.

WOW!! You know when you eat something and your eyes roll back and you think, “I can die happy now”? No? Just me? Oh..😅 well let me just say, buttermilk cafe definitely exceeded my expectations. My mom and I went for brunch and everything was amazing so we decided to get some dessert to-go for later in the evening. The only (and minuscule) negative thing I can say is my poached egg was quite a bit undercooked for my liking BUT the staff was SO AMAZING and fixed that for me right away AND brought me an extra egg. The staff was all soo kind and attentive. The food is wonderfully comforting and very flavorful; Buttermilk cafe is my new favorite spot and very much worth the wait! Planning on going back tomorrow!
We ordered the buttermilk pancake (thick and perfect!), applewood smoked bacon (ridiculously good!), grits with cheese and fried eggs, the coastal something or other🤔 the one with lobster sauce ! (Drooling just thinking about it), the ABSOLUTE BEST buttermilk pie I’ve ever had (and I’ve tried many) and finally the pumpkin trifle (really hitting the spot while I watch Halloween movies).
Do yourself a HUGE favor; go to church, eat brunch at Buttermilk Cafe, go antique shopping and finish your day off eating their buttermilk pie in some comfy pajamas. Seriously, the perfect Sunday! 😂😍
