The Southern Candy Makers has a very wide selection of store made candies. They make delicious pralines in the store and stock milk, white and dark chocolate candies of all types. They also have and sell a selection of coffee. The staff are friendly and helpful and service is very quick. A nice spot for a sweet treat.
For over 20 years I’ve been a happy Southern Candymakers customer. I’m from NOLA but now live in a different city. When I return from visiting NOLA my friends and customers wanna know if I brought back some pralines and milk chocolate tortues. Can’t come home without ‘em. Every year I love stopping by Southern Candymakers and scoring some hand crafted candies that are uniquely New Orleans! Thank you Southern Candymakers for being a source of enjoyment, friendship and the very best service ever!
Enjoyed the free samples! The sweet potato praline DELICIOUS 😋 The Turtles & classic pralines DELICIOUS 😋
Just go..I'm sure you can find & enjoy something you would like
Probably, one of the best, if not the best, pralines Ive tasted thus far.
Near the heart of the French Quarter, this confectioner has been in business for decades. Their good reputation is well earned.
Ordered the basic praline, a little pricey but the high quality justified it. Made on site, they were fresh and stayed fresh for a couple of weeks.
This is charming candy store offering excellent pralines and all kinds of other treats! The pralines they make feature whole pecans, not pieces - as many of their competitors do. Pieces are fine - but there’s just something very appealing about the way Southern Candymakers is doing it. The store is neat and clean, and they are well stocked for chocolate lovers as well. Can’t wait to go back!
My history with Southern Candymakers begins long before I met them as a born and bred New Englander when living in Wayland MA outside of Boston. Starting around 1982 I homemade turtles for family and friends for Xmas every year. People liked them so much that they became a must-do for me for years. That is till one of my several trips to New Orleans about 20-25 years ago when I was staying at what was probably the La Galerie Hotel on Decatur St. So it was during a short walk along Decatur St that I met Southern Candymakers as a non-descript storefront with hanging plastic sheets for a front door. So I walked in. And there was a display case with tortues which I instantly recognized as the turtles of my past. And they were good. So good that I decided to thereafter to buy tortues from Southern Candymakers for all my Xmas fans. Not a hard decision to make because not only were turtles a labor of love to make, they are frankly, a lot of work. I have bought tortues and other confections from Southern Candymakers ever since on and off and they are now my go-to store for all candy I wish to send to anyone for any reason. And of course, Xmas 2023. So, sorry Southern Candymakers, no one recommended you to me, you were just an accident of traveling and moving around the US. And thank you Southern Candymakers for your enduring presence near and far from Pennsylvania. WTM.
The wonderful smell as soon as you walk in is out of this world! The service is great, the pralines are absolutely delicious. We tried the coconut, peanut butter and sweet potato. I ate them all and will have to return to take some back home. It's a must to visit this place!
All kinds of sweet things await your sugar tooth here, including salt water taffy, praline pecans, and sugar n’spice walnuts. Chocolates galore and other nifty gifties, including hot sauce, gumbo seasoning, and jambalaya seasoning. Affectionate service and prime location.
This place is amazing for anybody's sweet tooth. We got pralines, they were amazing. Very friendly cashier, she'd answer any question we had. Highly recommended place.
Got a sweet tooth? Go here! The Pralines MELT in your mouth and not gritty! Don’t be afraid to ask for samples - they are not stingy at all!
What a great shop! Passed by so many praline shops but this one caught our attention with the open doors allowing the smell of fresh candy to roll into the streets. Both times we went in they were making candy. (So we know it's all fresh!) The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I guess we lucked out because it was uncrowded both times. We took home regular, chewy, and sweet potato pralines as well as a piece of Rocky road I think it was called. The chewy was hands down my favorite. Only regret was not getting more and not getting any turtles.
The staff was soooooo friendly. The candy that we got was sooooo delicious. My son cant have sugar for health reasons and they offer sugar free candy. Needless to say he loved this place. We ended up making another visit to this awesome spot before we left. This will be a must stop on our next visit.
What a fun shop with a team that really wants to satisfy you. They make all kinds of pralines and every one is delicious. How do I know? Because they encourage you to sample them. We fell in love with the Lemon, King Cake, Peanut Butter and Original Creamy. This is a must stop for praline lovers. They also have a lot of knick-nacks and candy they make such as assorted turtles.
These pralines are the absolute BEST! I was blown away with how delicious they are. My only regret was not buying more.
Great marketing - the sweet smell of cooking rich chocolate and caramel was wafting out the door onto the sidewalk - we were drawn into the store.
We were then greeted by a super friendly and knowledgeable counter person who offered samples of several items, including some irresistible dark chocolate covered apricots and orange peel slices.
We then watched the "Pralines," being made right from the copper kettle.
We ended up with a dozen or so of several different types of "Pralines," and a dozen dark chocolate covered apricots and orange peel slices.
We also had a chance to chat with the owner about the shop, the beautiful candies, and learning to water skiing on the bayou.
Great place, excellent sweets, friendly staff, and they ship!
All I have to share is.....so good! 😋
I placed my order, paid and left the store. I began walking down the street and bit into a praline. This was my first time having pralines and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. My friends and I immediately turned around and went back into the store to purchase more. The staff is warm and welcoming! They offer a variety of flavors which are baked fresh daily...I highly recommend!!
I now know that pralines are bits of heaven!
I had been wandering the French Quarter when I came upon Southern Candymakers. I stepped inside and the smell was amazing. It got even better when I was offered a very generous sample of their mouthwatering pralines to try. While I looked at the other goodies, I ended up leaving with half a pound of pralines and then actually made it home untouched. I should have bought a whole pound!!
