Surrey's was one of my last meals in New Orleans. And for my last meals, I knew I wanted to get some shrimp and grits - one of my ultimate favorite meals. This restaurant is known for being fun and funky. Surrey's is an eclectic and funky Cafe and Juice Bar with two convenient locations on historic Magazine Street in New Orleans.  Our sweet and savory menu specializes in local food items with a hint of latin flavor.

Surrey’s is by far one of my favorite breakfast places in the country! The atmosphere is very neat! The food is where it is at ! The shrimp and grits are off the hook not to mention the French toast ! Me and my husband never forget to stop here every time we are in NOLA!! If you are looking for a fantastic breakfast you need to make sure to stop here !

We went on a Sunday, so of course it was packed, but they did a great job at getting us seated quickly. It's a very chill and laid back atmosphere, with a creative menu to follow. The food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. The only thing that I would recommend would be to use their fresh juices for MIMOSA's. 😋😋😋 I recommend the Bananas Foster French Toast (share when possible so that you can pick something else wonderful on the menu. I would also recommend the Crab Meat Omelet, Costarican Breakfast, and the Shrimp and Grits.

It's a tiny little joint right on Magazine Street (cute) that I accidentally stumbled upon one day. Turned out to be the best grits I have EVER had! Seriously! The BEST! You HAVE to give them a try.

I went here and ordered a breakfast burrito with no bacon and omg I was not disappointed. I ended up splitting the burrito with my boyfriend because it was massive and neither of us could eat a whole one by ourselves. The service was a bit slow, and the venue is a little small, but everyone was super friendly and there was some awesome art on the walls!

A longtime Garden District favorite – certainly not the sort of place one will find teaming with European Tourists in the French Quarter – Surrey’s Café and Juice Bar is one of those kitschy places with fun decorations and a unique menu where service comes with a smile, the waits sometimes quite long given the limitations of the space, but the experience making it worthwhile.

Located at 1418 Magazine Street and blending in so effortlessly with surrounding homes that it is barely noticed from the sidewalk to passers-by, Surrey’s Café approaches New Orleans classics with a Latin Spin alongside a lengthy menu of seasonal fresh squeezed Juices, the seating somewhat tight yet somehow seeming appropriate as the walls are given splashes of color by vibrant depictions of nearby architecture made by a local artist.

Described a few daily specials by the server, a man circulating to fill both Coffee and Water also providing some advice of his own, it was with tough choices made that three plates were selected while taking a pass on the juices, though the ones that were ordered at neighboring tables did look refreshing with no lack of choices including everything from Orange to Apple, Carrot and Watermelon.

Waiting perhaps ten minutes for food, the quoted time for a two-top approximately twenty minutes at 8:20am on a Monday, suffice it to say that housemade Boudin on a Buttermilk Biscuit with Scrambled Eggs presented a significant upgrade on the typical “breakfast Sandwich” ordered at the Drive-Thru, a moist Pumpkin Pancake thick and rich with Cinnamon also proving to be good despite the lack of pure Maple Syrup while the Creole Cream Cheese stuffed triangles of French Bread were pudding-soft beneath the pan seared exterior and plenty sweetened by the Rum flamed and fruity Sauce.

I stopped a bit early at Surrey's cafe, another of the 10 or so DDD in the New Orleans area. Surrey's is a breakfast/lunch juice bar. The menu items include some of the standard fare for both meals plus a few choices with a Latin flare.

The place is rustic or run-down depending on what side of the foodie line you stand on. You know what I mean... wobbly tables on an uneven floor with mismatched chairs and confusing art on the wall. That said, the waitstaff was attentive and the dude was quick to recommend a few of his favorites. He talked me into the $11 corned beef hash. The spin was the addition of both boudin and andouille sausage. It was a delicious and hearty portion which I finished off with a few liberal splashes of hot sauce.

In the end, Surrey's is your cookie-cutter hipster breakfast joint characterized by a seemingly necessary shottiness. In this case, there is a Latino flare added...kind of like Corona's as opposed to Cora's. Decent food and a decent vibe providing you go at off-peak times. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a while.

Alright so in my last morning in New Orleans, and I've taken a stroll along Magazine St. to take some shots and then down to Surrey's Cafe & Juice Bar (for a plate of Shrimp & Grits!)

...

Ok so, this thing arrives and it's a steaming bowl of Sautéed Louisiana Gulf shrimp smothered in a New Orleans-style BBQ sauce over a bowl of grits. Then garnished with bacon, spring onions and some French bread croutons. Now before you all jump to conclusions here folks, let me remind you that this is not your typical BBQ sauce (which by the way I can think of very few things that would go worse on shrimp. Yuk!). This is Louisiana! And this so called “BBQ sauce” is actually just some Cajun seasonings, S&P, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and -in a very much French-inspired kinda way- a whole lot of butter!!!

(… the Tabasco is optional… Yeah, right!)

I'll be back!

On the last morning of the trip to New Orleans, Paul and I woke up with such an aggressive food hangover that the thought of another heavy meal made us both a bit squeamish. With no real plans for our last few hours, I googled “juice” and we set off on Magazine Street for a walk in the sunshine. At this point, we were seeking anything green.

The coffee was bad. The food was good. REALLY good. (Especially the biscuit) I got migas with chorizo and breakfast potatoes. My best friend got scrambled eggs and salmon. His looked pretty good. Overall experience I'd give an 8, only because the coffee was the weakest of the weak.

My 4th time here and it's always the same love that. Was a bit crowded but Fridays can be that way. Food was very tasty, had to wait a bit the kitchen was a bit backed up.it is always worth the wait here, not a southern Breakfeast if that's what you looking for more of a Weat Coast flair.

CASH ONLY RESTAURANT. Surrey's Juice Bar was recommended to us by a friends so one day we decided to try it. I ordered a 12 ounce orange, carrot, and apple juice which was delicious. My husband has a juice drink that included kale which he enjoyed. When we got ready to pay we found out it was cash only luckily we had some but I wish we had known going in.

I love this place!. This place is great for breakfast. Me and my wife try to eat here frequently because its reasonably priced and very close to our apartment.
If you come here, you must try the banana pancake. It is enough to share, and in fact could probably feed a family of three. But seriously, this is the best banana pancake you will ever eat.
To be honest, everything on the menu is great, the coffee, breakfast burritoes, the juice. One of our favorite places

Boudin wow. Group of guys were in town for the weekend and this was in walking distance. The juice was a great start (apple, kale, ginger, I've been home trying to recreate that blend), but then the meal came. The potatoes were stellar, with a bit of a spice. The best part though was the boudin, I could have eaten that all day, just juicy and flavorful. It was a small place, the staff were friendly, quiet and away from the party. Be aware, cash only, no split checks.

Went for breakfast because it was within walking distance of our hotel. I got bananas foster French toast and my wife got the corned beef hash and the fresh squeezed orange juice. Worth. Every. Penny. The french toast was perfectly cooked and the presentation was way better than I expected. My wife's corned beef was so juicy and tender that I kept stealing bites while she wasn't looking. And the orange juice. I ended up stealing about half of that too, and we were both sad when we finally ran out, it was delicious.

Amazing Breakfast. These folks are wizards. The service was friendly and fast. The coffee was good. We ordered off the specials list. Although they are well known for the banana pancake and bananas foster french toast, we chose to try the boudin, grits, and shrimp and the crab cake eggs Benedict. The flavor of the food was incredible. We were particularly blown away by the seasoning on the shrimp. Be prepared to wait for breakfast, but the wait is well worth it. Best breakfast I have had anywhere.

Surreal Breakfast and Juices!. It's a small cozy breakfast joint down Magazine St. We had the Montana Plate (Two eggs, biscuit w/ sausage gravy, ham, bacon and sausage with hash browns or grits) and the Crab Meat Omelette (Stuffed with avocado and Brie cheese, topped with a creamy lump crab sauce, served with toast or biscuit). Everything was delicious.. we cleaned our plates and left very satisfied. The service was good, she took care of everything we needed, left us alone and brought us our food in a prompt manner.

They don't need my validation judging by all of the other reviews referencing their Food Network Spot. I haven't seen it and it doesn't matter to me, what does matter is the food! And that speaks for itself. I went here on a friend's recommendation and lets just say I was happy that I did!!

Don't go to the one Uptown - it has the same menu, but I have had numerous bad meals there. The lower garden district location is way better.

Breakfast > Lunch. My friend and I came here during lunchtime. Surrey's cafe appeared on food network so we decided to give it a try. We parked across the street. The decor was New Orleans themed. Alot of New Orleans type house decor hung on the wall everywhere and the table covering was the jazz fest map. I like it!

We ordered:

Smoked chicken crest: I got the lunch combo. The gumbo was a little salty, the mango dressing for the salad was good, and the sandwich was okay, nothing amazing. The chicken wasn't tender.

Shrimp & grits: I tried my friend's meal and it was delish! Definitely trying their breakfast menu next time.

The only bad thing I would say is that it closes too early!

Worth it. I have mixed feelings on whether I should wait over 15 minutes to be seated for breakfast. Some places draw a crowd over nostalgia and atmosphere over food *cough-camelliagrill-cough*. I'm guilty of doing it myself.

So, when we walked up yesterday morning to a 25-30 minute wait, and people lining the sidewalk and ares across the street, I knew we were taking a gamble.

The first thing that caught my eye when we sat down was that they have an extra menu at the table, filled with items. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always feel like that means a restaurant has expanded on successful plates.

Anyway, I got some dish I can't remember the name of, but it consisted of a bagel sliced in half - the bagels are made fresh at Surrey's - and a fried egg in the hole, topped with cheddar cheese. On side were twice baked hashbrowns, which were not really hashbrowns at all, more like new potatoes with cheddar, bacon, sour cream and chives on top.

The bagel was seriously one of the best I've ever had, the egg was perfect and the hashbrowns were an explosion of awesome in my mouth.

My girlfriend had the breakfast burrito - with chicken instead of bacon (no pork), with grits on the side. Sometimes, the onions and green peppers aren't cooked thoroughly, but not the case here - perfect inside! The grits were very delicious as well, not sticky at all. I can't wait to go back, which is more than I can say for most breakfast spots I try out.

Delicious Birthday Breakfast. We went here for my husband's birthday. First, the menu was so interesting, each time I read a new item I had a harder time deciding. I finally decided on the shrimp and grits and the egg plate. My husband had the Bagel and lox plate. Everything was delicious. Of course we shared everything and I really enjoyed the house cured salmon on the home made bagel with capers and cream cheese. the shrimp abd grits was excellent! There was an abundant amount of shrimp, just the right amount of spice and the grits were deliciously creamy! The lime-ade was exactly how lime-ade should taste, tart (many places call a glass of sugar water lemonade or lime-ade.) The service was excellent. My coffee and water stayed full. We will definitely be returning soon!

Excellent.. You'll likely have to wait on the weekends, but it's worth it. Service is sometimes a bit moody, but the food and the decor makes up for it easily. Foods great, service is so so. The food at this home cooking spot is very creative and worth going to. The service left a lot to be desired. Not sure if the wait staff just doesn't like mornings or was in a funk, but we were treated like we were interrupting their morning.

We got there and a line was forming 10 minutes before they opened. This was a good sign. The bad sign was that the staff ignored us and didn't even open the door when they opened.

That said, the food was great. The corned beef hash was top notch, the bagel is worth the legend, and the juice was superb. Only the coffee was bad (but that seemed to be NOLA wide).

The art work inside is fun and vibrant and the food is simple but so flavorful and delicious. The Banana's Foster French Toast was simply outstanding! It was the perfect combination of flavors, with caramelized bananas and a delightful syrup. Every bite was a delight, and I highly recommend trying it. The coffee was also excellent - just the way I like it. It was the perfect accompaniment to my meal and added to the overall enjoyable experience. I built my own omelette with chorizo, cheddar cheese, mushroom, and onion, and it was absolutely delicious. The omelette was cooked to perfection, and the combination of ingredients was a taste sensation. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Overall, this restaurant offers a wonderful brunch experience. The food is tasty, the coffee is great, and the atmosphere is friendly. If you're in the mood for a delicious brunch, this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed!

10/10 I would most definitely recommend! I ordered the banana foster french toast *chef kiss* is was sooo delicious. I also got a side of cheese grits, they were really good too. I wish they had a meat option for people who don’t eat beef or pork, like turkey bacon or chicken sausage. That would be my only criticism though I will definitely be back to try more options on their menu! Our hostess and waitress was so polite and accommodating even though it was packed. There is limited seating so it would not be a good idea to go with a big group. There is free street parking in the area which was nice.

Surrey's Cafe may be our new breakfast spot on our way out of town from a weekend in NOLA. The service was excellent and it wasn't overly crowded like you might suspect on a Sunday at 10:00am. I enjoyed my Migas with Chorizo, with cheese grits and a biscuit (I ordered a side of sausage gravy for the biscuit). My girlfriend had the Costa Rican breakfast with black beans added (I feel like it should be served with black beans instead of charging $3 for the addition). Also, we shared the Pain Perdu which was so damn good.
