Hot spot on the edge of the Quarter, where you can chill and check out some serious Jazz. Not that the kids serenading you out on the street corner aren't serious, but the devotion of the talent coming through Snug is elite. A go-to spot, on a jumpin' street, in the hardcore Jazz section of the most joyous city in the States. You can't go wrong at Snug Harbor.
First rate music club with yummy food. You get to sit down and listen in a quite, smoke free club.
For this New Yorker, no trip to New Orleans is complete without at least one visit to Snug Harbor.

My husband and I saw Ellis Marsalis at Snug Harbor a few weeks ago - he and his band were amazing! But I really wanted to comment on our experience with Snug Harbor management. We were flying in from Boston, expected arrival 2 pm in NOLA with tickets for the 8:00 show. However, our connecting flight was delayed in Atlanta and it became clear we wouldn’t be there in time for the 8:00 show. We called the club and they agreed to honor our tickets for the 10:00 pm show. More delays in Atlanta ..... 7 hours more! We landed in NOLA at 9:15 pm and knew we wouldn’t have time to get to the hotel so we took a cab straight to the club. The 2 of us and 4 suitcases show up and the manager very graciously offered to store our luggage in her office. We tried to tip her but she declined, saying it was just part of her job, and said if we really wanted to, we could tip the hostess instead. She then told us she was so impressed with our efforts to get to the show that she reserved a front row table for us! After the show she lugged our suitcases outside for us and then hailed down a cab. We cannot thank the management at Snug Harbor enough for giving us such a memorable experience! We saw a lot of incredible talent while we were in town, but Mr. Marsalis and his band were the highlight!

Snug harbor
This jazz bistro on Frenchman street in New Orleans is a great place to stop. We made reservations on a Thursday night to see Bon Bon Vivant play the main stage. We had dinner before the show and it was exceptional. If you have read my reviews before, you might know I gauge a restaurant in Louisiana by the quality of their gumbo. This was very good seafood gumbo. It helped that is was a chilly December night. We also had the fried green tomatoes. They were very well made with shrimp on top and a nicely spiced remoulade. My wife had the bbq shrimp. If you have not had bbq shrimp, it is a southern delicacy. The sauce was spicy and the shrimp were large and well cooked. It had a lot of rosemary, which I love, but fresh instead of dried would really make this better. The staff is extremely courteous and professional. Overall, this is a bistro that I will return to for the food and the music. If you visit New Orleans and don’t make your way to Frenchman street, you are missing the soul of the city in my opinion.
This was good! The food was excellent and very fairly priced. The Rib Eye for around $50 was prepared to perfection, my wife’s fried chicken was top! Service was a little slow, but understandable because they were packed before the show. Then we went to the back for the jazz performance. It was good, but man…was it serious. I suppose those were some accomplished jazz musicians and maybe my ears were not really worthy of such performance. Those 4 guys took themselves way too serious for my taste. Everyone there was very friendly and if I had friends in town again, I’d probably go again.
We enjoyed an absolutely incredible live Jazz Orchestra, the venue is very small and cozy, and staff came through regularly to make sure we had drinks.
Music was phenomenal and volume was kept in control as well which was a really pleasant surprise for such a small space.
We will absolutely book more shows in the future should we return to New Orleans

I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Charlie Gabriel here. We sat in the upper gallery, where the view was unobstructed and we could do a little bit of delighted whispering. The seating was like a cocktail lounge, with low chairs & tables, and high chairs & tables. The rest of the audience was thrilled to be there, a mix of grey hairs and the young.
I love looking at their calendar to make notes of who’s coming to town.
The restaurant is downstairs, and separate from the stage - to eat at the restaurant, I advise arriving early, and then moving to the music area. We wound up getting a charcuterie board for dinner, which is the only food they serve upstairs, along with a short wine list, and mixed drinks from the well.
Had an amazing experience at Snug Harbor. We went to specifically see Charmaine Neville, and she did not disappoint. We got to meet her before the show and, in fact, when she talked to my grandson and his grandpa and realized he was a 1st year student studying jazz at UNO, she asked him to sit in. She called him up in the middle of her set, and he played with the band. She even gave him a solo in the middle of the song. It was an incredible thing to do for a brand new jazz student. She was kind and gave him some really good advice. The night was very special for these grandparents who have been fans of the Nevilles for a long time. What an amazing experience for our grandson. We can't thank Charmaine or Snug Harbor enough. We enjoyed Charmaine's music and even got to see her son, Damion, who joined her on stage for the last song of the set. Man, what a night! Our hearts and souls are full!
My wife and I had a meal before we saw the show featuring 91 year old saxophonist Charlie Gabriel. My wife had a baked potato and salad, which were very good. I had a burger, which was tasty. Wait staff in the restaurant and the performance room were excellent.

Fantastic evening of live music. Saw Herlin Riley and got a fantastic seat on the balcony with perfect view. Tickets were very affordable and the table service was friendly and pleasant. Note they do not serve food in the concert area. The bar had plenty of seating and I enjoyed the red beans and rice as well as the loaded baked potato. Staff was very friendly and even offered me to watch the second performance as one of the other patrons had an extra ticket and I was by myself. Will look forward to more shows at this venue in the future.
Ate here with a group of friends. Our waiter Jorge was patient. He helped us navigate the menu. Food was very good. Portions fair for the price.
Food tasted great, but twice I bit oyster shell. Service and drinks were great, and the band was Live!! Frenchman Street was a great vibe!!
First time I was here and brought customers. It's a great value and off the beaten path. No tourists just locals that love jazz!
An intimate experience into the Nola Jazz music atmosphere! Frenchmen Street is full of open and free venues where you can attend nice Jazz Jam sessions but I will never regret having bought tickets and paid $25 for it. I felt really into it and the view was great from every seats. Will go again for sure!
A great spot to listen to music. This place looks like a performers dream. The Listening Room seats about 50 on the floor with additional seating in the balcony. When the bands perform, most everyone is quiet to hear every detail of the performance. We went and heard the Brad Walker quartet. They were awesome!
Adonis Rose and the NoJo 7 were fabulous! Even though the seating is tight, the acoustics make this a #1 music venue.
Great menu, similar to Port of Call with their burgers and drinks. Also, more sides dishes if you want to mix it up! Great ambience of live jazz music on the video monitors while you eat. Bartender and drink staff made for great conversation and tasty drinks! Do yourself a favor and come by for the fun!!
Our server Colby was charming and fun, did a good job. Jambalaya soup was mediocre, fish Merigny very nice dish, cheesecake yummy. The show we saw was phenomenal - super intimate venue. Overall, a great night!
Very nice atmosphere, food was delicious and the location is perfect. Take an Uber, it’s on Frenchman and there is limited parking in that area.
