I stopped in for coffee and came out deeply inspired. BlackStar has excellent food and coffee but the community being cultivated there is even more nourishing. I can't recommend it highly enough! Thank you for extending friendship and for the amazing vegan hot sausage :-)

The energy, the soul, the food, the music. You have every reason to be there. I promise you'll always be happy that you did. Hint: Try the jerk chicken sandwich. :-)

Quaint, so welcoming and peaceful. Bakir opened shop one night just for my daughter and I to reconnect and cry. Beautiful place with beautiful spirits....

Popped in on a Weds lunchtime while exploring the Algiers neighbourhood, and it's what I came away remembering most. Real trove of Afro-centric lit + art in there, really enjoyed the soul salmon + yimolade, and that day's manager Valerie was exemplary. Even during the quiet hours, BSB's worth a visit.

I've only been in the neighborhood for a few days, I wandered in there and was so welcomed! Everything was great, but the people made it even better. I will definitely be back very often!

My family and I were embraced from the door, the scenes and scents were a welcome home to a village far away, but familiar. The neighborhood Children showed up and were welcomed, drink selection was fresh, delicious, and natural-goodness for your body, the food was phenomenal (best vegan burger w/no soy ever), and we shopped the international, hand-made, clothing, jewelry, and even some products of the in-house apothecary. We were given a preview of the "Book Experience" a room filled with print on paper-diverse titles and subjects, floor to ceiling, a librarian's dream!!!! The concept of sharing books and encouraging folks to sit "and stay for a while" to soak up knowledge and love is DOPE!!!! The music was soothing, conscience, and the perfect soundtrack to a day of history, new friends, fellowship, and a welcome committee that included young ambassadors who took my son out to "play" and join their family (out on the block)! Across the bridge/West Bank---Old Algiers, boasts a Little Afika that has something special for ya....spiritually filled our souls and hearts. Happy to connect & grateful my family was there to witness and share on the Love!

If you are into "clean" delicious food and a positive vibe, this is the place to be. They also host an open mic for entertainers on Sunday evenings. This is all child friendly so be decent.

For me, it was refreshing to see a Black owned business in historic Algiers Point. The food was superb. We had salmon sandwiches and buttermilk drops. Plus there the air African and African American history, music, art and culture. It's like an oasis in the desert. The place quenched my afrocentric thirst. My whole family enjoyed our visit. Peace and Respect.

Love the vibe here. It was always love and felt like family no matter who was here. Something about going black home I guess. The food was always good too. Nice music, books and other things to buy in the market. Wish they could open back up. Support your local small businesses!

Vegan hot sausage and Sunday brunch will bring you back again and again. Great selection of books, natural beauty products, and Afrocentric gifts items in the shop. Your purchase funds youth programming in the neighborhood. Win win.
