I went to chelsea market thinking i was going to get something from amy's bread for breakfast but ended up having a freshly steamed lobster and freshly shucked oysters as a special Sunday brunch! Loved the lobster place so much i went back there 4 more times while in NYC and had the seared tuna with soba noodles, shrimp w soba, sampled a dozen different oysters and tried the lobster roll. Highly recommended for brunch, lunch, dinner or a snack!
It's a staple stop for me and it never disappoints. Freshest seafood and the oysters are always on point, with a very knowledgeable staff.
The best lobster bisque ever! The lobster roll was ok, a bit small for its price. I would definitely go back to maybe try something new.
Incredible selection of amazingly fresh seafood. Probably the best in the City. Not only can you shop for dinner, you can sit down and eat it there. Worth the trip....
For what it is, itâs fabulous! Beautifully steamed lobster and a beer! Reasonably priced too. ïżœïżœïżœ What else could you ask for! ïżœïżœïżœ
Lovely place, in love with seafood. Excelent sushi bar. In general i was un the paradaise of good food in Chelsea Market.
I love seafood and this place has it all. Fresh from beginning to end. Love it.
Tasty lobster and exciting place to be visited! Great! ïżœ
If you like lobster is a great place to go in Chelsea Market NY,delicious.I went with my family had a wonderful time.
The best sashimi ever !!!!! Best sushi ïżœ simply the best seafood in New York !
I can't speak to the food but I can speak to the folks that own and operate this place. Nice as they can be. I installed all of the column and wall art for this location. Everyone was crazy nice, hope to work with them again. CJ Hughes Lettering.
AMAZING! The food and everything about it was absolutely wonderful.
The food is fabulous and the staff are friendly. Great selection of food.
Great place and very good food. The Crablegs are awesome.
I'm from Philadelphia and some of the time we simply drive up to NYC to come here as it were. The lobster is so crisp and very yummy. I wish there were seats here yet I'd presumably simply nod off after eat so it in all probability a decent thing.đ
Seafood heaven with a laid back atmosphere and good prices. U pick up your seafood and they cook it for you (lobster) or clean it/cut it (oyster and crab). Amazing place
Pricey, but Fresh
The place was busy and there was a ton of seafood variety. I'm not sure how people can justify paying some of their prices for the whole lobsters, but I saw many people who did. I opted for a sushi roll and a shrimp cocktail, and both were good, but not too special in my opinion. Next time I wouldn't mind trying the oysters form the raw bar.
Thr Lobster House in Chelsea Market is where all of your seafood dreams come true. The fresh oysters are f#$@*%ing amazing and has ruined any other oyster bar for me. This is a definite must!!
Simple! Big! Fresh! Delicious! Blown away by the 3.5pound lobsterïŒ only 80dollarsïŒ besides lobster there are lots of other seafood choices! Seafood lovers heaven! The only thing is the shop gets so busy during lunch and dinner time you have to fight for a spot to stand and eat! However as a seafood lover will come back again and again and again!@
Ăa va me faire moins loin que de traverser l'ocĂ©an. Bon, je dois avouer que la patte de crabe Ă©tait ordinaire. C'est chaud et salĂ©. Bref c'est un bon endroit pour les amateurs de fruit de mer. Je dois y retourner pour essayer leur omakase.
On y va pour :
-lobster roll
-clam chowder
-sashimi super frais
-omakase
This was a great fun place in Chelsea Market! The lobster roll was fresh and tasty. I also had the bay girlies that were hot and spicy. Next time I will have to try a steamed whole lobster or some oysters on the half shell.
Lobster Place is where you'll find a variety of seafood in the one shop. There's sections dedicated to oysters, lobsters, chowder, sushi and sashimi etc. You can try a bit of everything and everything's fresh. Majority of the seafood is reasonably priced. It does get quite busy so you might need to wait a while before being served but it's easy to find a spot in the dining areas (mostly standing only).

Best sushi in NYC , super adorable and tastes so fresh. Highly recommend the butter fish , great service fast and in easy in the heart of Chelsea
An open layout restaurant at Chelsea Market, where you can see and eat all the fresh seafood/sushi/sashimi. The lobster roll we take was fresh, packed in a lot of flavor. The fried shrimp is big and it was crunchy. The price of the lobster roll is a bit high ($20.50), but it comes in a box, with chips, sauces, cookie and lemonade. An experience that you should try, when visiting NYC.
I dined here a few times, once at the Lobster bar and twice at the sushi bar. Lobster Place was high on my to do list for NYC and it did not disappoint. On entry you are visually overloaded by the amount of seafood on display. I have never seen such variety, and all of it is super fresh. Imported and local you can no go wrong. On weekends this place is packed to the rafters so come on weekdays if possible for a more leisurely experience. The Lobster bar sits at the very back of the market. You can look at the lobsters on display and choose the size you want, this is then freshly cooked for you on the spot. You can also choose a side of chowder and a beer or wine. There are a couple of small stand up bars to start dissecting your lobster at. I have to be honest and say that I was a little let down with the Lobster, it wasn't the magical experience I had hoped. Never mind we went to the sushi bar and this is where the magic happens. On our first occasion we tried some sashimi as well as a chirashi don. The sashimi as you can expect is super fresh, the bed of rice it sat on was very well seasoned and makes for a delicious lunch. We enjoyed it so much we came back for the Omikase grand set. It's the most expensive set on the menu and I recommend you choose a seat infront of a sushi master and request they serve each sushi piece individually in the traditional style. You will be blow away with the experience and the absolutely fantastic taste sensation you will have.Â
We also took a big bag of fresh seafood home to cook ourselves, but that is another delicious story :)
The Lobster Place at Chelsea Market is one of it's major attractions. Who doesn't like seafood? Everywhere there are people devouring fresh lobsters, savoring sushi, contemplating chowders and buying assorted fresh fish or tiger prawns bigger than the palm of one's hand from Nigeria. I see all this and invariably have the lobster roll which has a fresh clean flavor and more lobster than roll. Just perfect. Yesterday I decided to make a change and had the soft shell crab sandwich special. Lots of restaurants are featuring this delicacy right now. So when I got this sandwich, my mouth started to salivate imagining what deliciousness I was about to eat. The soft shell crab had crunch no doubt but no flavor. All I could taste was the harissa paste that was spread on both sides of the roll. The pungent harissa flavor completely overpowered the delicate taste of the soft shell crab. I felt really sad because here this sandwich cost $16.95. Far less than what restaurants are charging but with no flavor? Now that's a waste of money.
Lobster roll again next time.
Totally love the place! So many options to choose from, they all looks good, impossible to try them all. Opted for the C&P Galley, got a crab cake sandwich and a New England chowder. Yum! The crab cake was moist, lots of crab meat in the crab cake, not doughy or floury, packed with flavour, and a great sauce. The chowder was good too, perfect for a cold & rainy day. Absolutely need to come back!
Absolutely fantastic experience at this restaurant at Chelsea Market. Tried the lobster bisque and the lobster roll, and both were fresh, packed in a lot of flavour, and would be something I'd have again. It's super busy but don't let that deter you if you love fresh seafood.
We had lunch here today and we decided really well.
The fish was fresh , the salmon was tender and incredibly delicate.
The two dishes we ordered were made live in front of us
The service was incredibly nice.
The only negative side was that it was really busy and some times we were pushed from the other person around.
In Chelsea Market this place is fantastic for Oysters lovers.I asked for a selection of 6 Duxbury,Broadwater,Kumamoto,Flying Point,Moon Rise (from the US) all of them fresh and tasty with different flavors really exquisite.I just added some lemon juice. They open them for you at the moment!
OMG the lobster roll here is amazing!!! Even though it's a bit pricey at $17.50, comes with chips and a pickle it is definitely worth it! I could eat 10 more of these!
Open layout where you can see all the fresh seafood!!! Extensive selection of different type of oysters and fresh seafood ready to serve! Made to order soup at the back of the shop is a must try!!
Some of the best sushi I have ever had was while sitting at the sushi bar in this place. The salmon, tuna belly and uni were faultless. They also had a special of a very large shrimp two ways, sashimi and deep fried shrimp head - delicious.
Love this place! Love that it's in Chelsea market, love the layout of the place and all the delicious food packed in there to feast on!
I just had a steamed lobster and dipped it in delicious butter, oh-so-good!
Lindo, muy tipico. Comimos bien y sabroso. Caro, pero... Que no es caro si es fresco?. Un must. Muy lleno, cosmopolita, sin mucho espacio para sentarse, esto incomodo.
Tucked away in the heart of the meatpacking district in New York hid the best lobster Iâve ever had. The Lobster Place located in the Chelsea Market is essentially a fish market. From the outside you wouldnât think much of it but donât be fooled. As a fish lover Iâm always on the look-out for the freshest fish out there and this place has just that with an incredible variety. You will find everything from an oyster bar to whole fish on ice, sushi rolls and most importantly, lobster.
The lobster roll is OK. Not as good as I remember a few years ago when I went for the first time. The lobster bisque was wonderful. My husband got the lobster sushi and he said it was very good. It's pricey. 3.5 stars.
I have ordered a 2.5 lbs lobster and served with lemon and oil on a plastic plate. Price is acceptable compared to a luxury restaurant but i amnot that much stunned wtih the taste. My wife has ordered a cup of Clam Chowder soup, which was 5/5. I will try sushi and crab next time. The system is perfect.
For a seafood marketplace Lobster Place is spotlessly clean, and considering that lobsters here are half the prices of lobsters where I'm from in Australia I'd say New Yorkers have it pretty good. Delicious, fresh lobster that tastes so good I hardly put any butter on it and so meaty too. And great clam chowders also. Definitely visit! Highly recommended.
Great place for fresh seafood or sushi/sashimi, especially great oyster variety and of course lobster by pound. One of the best lobster bisque in the city.
Incredible Seafood Market. If youâre a lover of seafood this place is like heaven, not that I know what heaven is like because Iâve never been, I mean figuratively speaking itâs what Iâd imagine heaven to be like, unless heaven isnât all what itâs cracked up to be, anyway you know what I mean.
This market claims to be New Yorkâs best lobster and seafood supplier and Iâm not going to argue with that. I suffered full on sensory overload the moment I stepped into this joint, my brain started to do backflips and I was actually getting a bit flustered because I didnât know where to look, there was just so much seafood EVERYWHERE! Stuff Iâd never seen before and things Iâd never even heard of! Oysters were being shucked and handed over the counter for eager customers, chowders were simmering away, fish was being fried, beers were being poured at the bar, fresh clams were being served to patrons, Japanese chefs were preparing sashimi at the sushi bar and fresh lobster rolls were being assembled at the pass, all of which was happening in a seafood market!
Anyway to the lobster roll, it was great! Fresh, tasty, huge chunks of juicy lobster sitting upon crunchy lettuce in a perfectly toasted buttery bun. YUM!
I enjoyed my time in metaphorical heaven... I didnât want to leave.
Newly renovated space featuring steamed fresh lobster at a great price, in addition to sushi and a full fresh fish market.
Will write a full review aft.... One of the things I tried to do during my time to NYC is to try as much lobster roll/sandwich as much as possible. This place was good, but not a favourite. Price-wise, it was on par with most places and the taste was good... just wasn't memorable. Lots of other seafood to try including ordering a whole lobster!!! Just the experience and visual is definitely worth going.
Overall experience: Thumbs up.
Great Clam Chowder. This place is great. All kinds of fresh seafood! The New England Clam Chowder and shrimp cocktail was so good. I'm definetly going back for some lobster some time. The first time I went in there the dude hooked me up with my can of coke. The second time they charged me, but can't win 'em all I guess.
Fresh Quality Seafood in a Clean Environment. Lobster Place is spotlessly clean and neatly ordered. It is a seafood market that doubles as an eatery. Lobster Place has little ambiance but it does have immaculately fresh seafood.
I recommend the Lobster Roll and the Tarragon Shrimp Roll. The Lobster Place Picnic box is a value that includes a Maine Root Soda and an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie plus a bag of Cape Cod Potato Chips, instead of the loose chips in the tray, for three additional dollars on most sandwiches, four dollars for the Crab Club.
Fresh steamed lobsters are sold by the pound and prepared to consume on premises or to take home.
There is a counter by the cash registers and additional seating tables in the Chelsea Market to scoff your purchase.
Love it! Delicious fresh lobsters and sushi rolls!! Must visit if you love your seafood.
When you visit Chelsea Market, itâs difficult not to notice its huge seafood market. Their selection of seafood is mind boggling! Not only can you purchase their seafood fresh to go, you can also enjoy the fresh seafood right there on the spot. For example, they offer a huge variety of sushis, steamed lobster in the back corner, fresh sashimi bar, and a selection of sandwiches and seafood chowders in bread bowls. We decided to try their lobster roll and crab cake sandwich, leaving the steamed lobster and fresh sashimi for next time.
Believe it or not, Chelsea Market was an alternate destination after I (barely) missed the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the David Zwirner Gallery... It turned out to be a favorite for both my mom and I... You can't go wrong by taking a housewife and a foodie grocery shopping...  I recalled my friend told me there is a popular cake shop inside Chelsea Market However, I didn't know which one it was since I didn't do my homework on this place >. (It was Fat Witch Bakery... Lesson learned: never come unprepared) Our favorite shop in Chelsea Market is the spice shop!  We were oohing-and-ahhing in here when we see all the different spices. Unfortunately, we are not expect with our spices and didn't know what to do with all the choices we were given... so we end up coming out the shop empty handed. (I will do better next time!) As we walked around, trying to decide what to eat for lunch, we spotted the Lobster Place. The place is packed, with local and tourists alike. After seeing flocks o
The Chelsea Markets had become a bit of a default position during our two week stay in the area, so we decided to head back to the markets and see if we could get into the Lobster Place. The Lobster Place is a bit of an institution in New York, a place where you can go and pick your own lobster (and most other seafood options) and get it cooked on the spot. There's no formal dining area in the Lobster Place, it's just benches and standing room only.
You excitedly splatter lemon juice over the evidence, pluck up that juicy claw and dab it with some butter oil.
This is an amazing building which takes up a whole block and was  formerly the Nabisco factory. It now houses 35 stores/food outlets. It was a bitterly cold day and I had spent about three hours catching up on the last five years with my lovely and creative friend,  M. Given the icy weather, we were thinking about warm and interesting places to visit, where we might also have a spot of lunch.  I canât imagine what made her think that I would be interested in a place centred around food. We walked around ogling the produce in the various emporia and decided  to try  the Lobster Place. It seemed to be about six stores in one and one of the stores is a sushi bar. We plonked ourselves down and ate. Or rather I hoovered and M ate.  It could not have been more fresh or more reasonably priced. Recommended. Sushi and sashimi. Salmon tartare We dropped in at the Fat Witch Bakery. I had to, with a name like that. The brownies? This fat witch makes better, Iâm sorry to say.
I knew what I wanted for lunch, so we made a beeline for The Lobster Place. This is a popular spot not only for the prepared foods, but also buying fresh fish and seafood to bring home to cook. There is also a little grocery section to buy drinks, condiments and other various items to accompany your seafood purchase, and there's a large section devoted to sushi-making.
Ok, so everyone knows that The Lobster Place has a killa lobster roll, but not everyone knows that they kill it at other sandwiches, soups, salads, and sushi. If it's a food group that involves seafood and starts with the letter 'S', Lobster Place is all over it...
I am the worst Jew ever I love all things treif-that means anything not kosher. Bacon, shrimp, cheeseburgers, ...you name it, i will eat it! But the most expensive-and thus most totally and indulgently DELICIOUS treif has got to be... LOBSTER. Oh sweet LO
The Lobster Place has been serving New York fresh Maine coast Lobsters since 1974 when they started making runs to Portland from its original location in the Upper West side. Their approach was simple, deliver a high quality, hard-to-find product and do it with integrity. Over the years they've moved from their original location to Chelsea and increased their product line to include not only lobsters but everything under the sea and quite the menu of prepared seafood.
2 years ago when we were first in New York returning from our year in Colombia, we found Chelsea Market and loved it. It was relatively unfrequented back then, and finding somewhere to eat was not a problem. Rolls on 2 years, and all this has changed. Chelsea Market is definitely one of the more popular places to eat on this side of Manhattan. We'd eaten at the Green Table before and we were very keen to eat there again. The daily changing menu reflects their ethos of farm to table, with all the ingredients coming from local farms and the Greenmarket. They have expanded since our last visit so thankfully there are more wooden tables to sample their wonderful fresh food. As in New York I wanted to sample some good mac n cheese and the journey began here. It was warm and comforting as a good mac n cheese should be. For me personally it could have done with a stronger cheese sauce, but that's just my preference. The accompanying salad was light fresh and well dressed. The wife had the chi
We ate dinner at The Lobster Place. The Lobster Place was a large seafood market with all kinds of sea life for sale. Lobsters were included in this selection, of course. The smallest lobsters that they had available while I was there started at about $25, and lobster honestly isn't my favorite marine crustacean, so I passed. Everyone else seemed to be gobbling them up though. I went with a sandwich from what they called the Shack in the Back. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Baguette, consisting of vodka dill smoked salmon, scallion cream cheese, and onion on a baguette. When I went back to pick up the food, I received this sandwich. My first thou
So this place is a restaurant and a seafood market all in one. Honestly how much more fresh can seafood get when it's going from the market which is behind you to the counter which is in front of you. My friends and I had the oysters which they had a fantastic selection which they also displayed by size and salinity of the oyster on a chart so that you could make a decision based upon what you liked instead of trying to pick blindly. We also had the sushi which was fantastic. I ended up getting a specialty role that was made with tuna and had seared Toro on top. This place is fantastic for anybody that's looking for a really good experience with seafood while not getting ripped off on the price.
The Lobster Place inside Chelsea Market is a seafood haven that never disappoints. The freshness and deliciousness of their seafood is truly unparalleled. Whether you're a seafood enthusiast or just looking for a delightful soup, this place has it all.
Head to the back for a minimal wait, and you can indulge in their fresh lobster rolls, savory soups, and tasty snacks. The casual ambiance adds to the charm, making it a perfect spot for a satisfying and enjoyable dining experience.
The Lobster Place is a must-visit for anyone craving top-notch sushi and seafood in the heart of Chelsea Market.
This is a nice seafood restaurant that splits the place into different sections for various types of foods. There is a sushi section, a lobster/seafood section, and there is an oyster bar as well. Overall, the food is good and the service is commensurate.
Delicious.
Expensive.
Worth it.
Thereâs nothing fussy about this place, and thatâs what I really loved. Easy, chill vibe with drinks and oysters and lobster and a section of items (and fish market) to take home after if you want to cook yourself.
I highly recommend!
Though - hopefully one day soon they add an oyster Happy Hour!
What a gorgeous selection of pristine quality seafood and bi-valves and fair value too. Place can get pretty busy and noisy. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and management.
We went bonkers and went on a bivalves rampage!
Ordered at least 5 dozens of Cherry stone Clams, 2 dozens of oysters, Little neck Clams, Jonas Stone-Crab Claws, Diver's Scallops Crudo and the ' Creme de la Creme ' Wild California Santa-Barbara Uni!!
I think our order made our two oyster shuckers hopping mad!!đ
Of the 8 different East Coast Oysters varietals tried....Glidden Point, Mere Point, Sunken Meadow, Willow's hole.....etc.
'INDIGO' was our favorite stand-out! Creamy and sweet and not overly salty. Absolutely delightful!!
I am a fan of the lobster place. A lot of fresh open oysters can be eaten here. I used to come here for the lobster in the back but recently have been eating a lot of of the oyster. Sometimes they have sea urchin as well.
On the side, the sushi bar in the middle is quite good. Had it twice and fish is super fresh (duh is a fish market). But the technique of the rice and sushi is still very good. Not the cheapest but quality definitely better than some sushi place elsewhere
Playing as tourist, ordered lobsta (Boston accent) roll and oysters⊠let me warn you ahead, it wasnât cheap! 3 lobsta rolls, fried fish & shrimp plate, a dozen oysters and a pint of IPA beer will run you about $150 with tips. Lobster rolls wasnât all that, I feel Lukeâs might be better. Also the lobster roll in National Harbor is better! Over all itâs a food market :) also itâs near by Little Island, another tourist spot.
This was amazing ! I'm a seafood lover, so it was right up my ally. We fot the lobster roll combo, with manhatten chowder and side of slaw. Very tasty. Thought the lobster roll would be bigger, but it was still good.! Also got oysters from the fresh oyster bar and they were amazing ND not at all badly priced.
A spacious place with a whole raw seafood bar. There are a variety types of cold water oysters, ranging from grand to petit, salty to sweet and they are all pretty good. The raw clams are definitely worth trying too. đ
Each counter has its own specialities and you order and pay at each one. We had some oysters at the raw bar and then a lobster roll at the hot food bar down the back. This one is the most popular section by far so seats are harder to come by and as most people are getting whole lobster the seats donât turnover quickly. Lobster roll was nice, bun was a little small but packed with lots of lobster.
Nice place in Chelsea Market offering a variety of sea food. We only tried the lobster roll which was really good but lacked a bit of balance in ingredients, I hardly noticed the celery and spring onions. Otherwise good and service was very quick. Can be difficult to find seating during busy hours so be prepared to stand up while eating.
Came here for some quick sushi and raw oysters and man oh man was everything sublime! Highly recommended for any fish lover!
The service was pretty good and relatively fast (keep in mind, it was around 6:30pm). The seafood in the middle island was decently priced but ordered the biggest oysters (based on the chart) and they werenât as big as I had hoped (compared to the ones I saw on the platters that other customers ordered). The Cherrystone clams were really delicious though, I ordered a few more after my first lot. Staff were friendly and Iâm looking forward to trying the sushi bar next time (and some more clams).
Update: the Hokkaido don from the Japanese sushi bar was delicious! Definitely worth having, seafood is fresh, and well seasoned!
I had a great evening at Lobster Place đŠ I passed by Lobster Place several times in the past, while at Chelsea Market, not realizing what a gem of a place it is.
In addition to lobsters, they have a section for sushi and a section for oysters. I have tried all three and couldnât be happier.
At the oysters section I tried a few. The very knowledgeable server guided me through some of the oysters in their selection, they couldnât be fresher and they washed well with the IPA.
At the sushi I got some Sashimi, again I couldnât be happier with how fresh and generous portions they were. The same was my experience with the lobster.
I truly loved my experience at the lobster place. The prices were great and so as were the service and the quality of the seafood I had.
Truly a gem đ
Oh man, this is perfect place to have some deliciously fresh seafood. Never had oysters before and this place just made me want them. Shrimp was so big and tasty
Lobster Place is a hidden gem. They have donburis, which are very delicious and inexpensive. Their maki rolls are also excellent.
Awesome lunch spot. The Toro was amazing. Service provided was spot on. I was asked several times if I needed anything. The rainbow roll was so so. I would have expected shredded crab on interior of the roll for type restaurant and prices. Fish was fresh. Nice atmosphere and plenty of seats for 1-2 persons while I visited. More than 2 and would be a wait. Would go back for sure if in the area.
5 stars for everything in there
The lobster roll is the one you have to eat
Raw bar has a lot of oysters that are came from different places and stuff is so friendly to introduce for you
