I was excited to find this place! The soup is excellent and a good value compared to nearby establishments. I paid $10 for a small Lobster Bisque which had big chunks of lobster and came with bread, a banana and a truffle. A few blocks away I paid $11 for a cup of potato soup and bread.
:-)
A must-visit place for Seinfeld faithfuls.
The Orignial Soupman holds a special place in the hearts of all Seinfeld lovers. And though I expected the soup to be nothing more than overpriced hype, honestly speaking, it totally lives up to the expectation. Yes, the soup is a tad bit expensive compared to other place and yes you can also buy "No soup for you" tshirts and coffee mugs, but it's a place I recommend everyone to visit.
We had their Lobster and Crab soup on a freezing New York morning and not only was it super delicious, the hot soup also helped a lot in warming our bodies. With every helping of soup, you also get bread, strawberries and chocolate. I'm totally going back next time I'm there.
I've always wanted to try this place the first time I've seen the Soup Nazi episode so on my visit to NYC on may 2015 I finally tried the Jambalaya and oh man what a place and they've got for quick bites the lobster roll which is good as well.
Being a fan of Seinfeld and with my first trip to New York coming up this was a no brainer.. I had to try it. I have to say I was not disappointed. Very good soup for an excellent value.
My favourite branch of The Original SoupMan in New York is this one! To me, warm soups nourish the soul, and every time I have ever felt down or like I have flu coming on, there is nothing quite like a wholesome bowl of soup to make me feel better without fail every single time! What is not to love about Al's Chicken Gumbo Soup (chunks of chicken breasts, tomatoes, bell peppers, carrots, celery, garlic, butter, and spices) or his Manhattan Clam Chowder (clams, tomatoes, vegetable juices in tomato and clam broth and seasoned with garlic, onion, butter and blended spices)? I only wish that we could buy Al's Original Soups in South Africa! *Recommendation: With forty-seven different types of soups, you cannot go wrong on a cold day in New York with one of these!
It's to go orders only. That's the only flaw I would say about this place. The lobster bisque had big chunks of lobster in it and was delicious! The chicken gumbo tasted like southern vegetable soup with chicken chunks in it and was also delicious! Came with an apple, spoon, napkin, bread, soup, and drink was seperate I think all in a yellow and black carry out bag which was cool looking. Awesome place. I would definitely go back.
Watched Seinfeld episode with my 10yr old granddaughter and she wanted to visit the Original Soup Kithen.
You get a piece of fruit, a slice of bread and a chocolate dinner mint, my granddaughter, and i love this place . You must go if you are a True ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Seinfeld fan!

Good place to grab a quick meal. The jambalaya soup was amazing. The lobster roll was alright and it was a bit small.
Not much to say. Im not really a soup guy but I really liked the chicken chilli.
Souvenirs are little expensive though.
Their actual menu has more options than the one here
Been to The Soup Kitchen twice since arriving in NYC. Helps that it’s just down the street from the hotel I’m staying at…. Strongly recommend the chicken jambalaya and chicken and corn chowder. Less enthused about the shrimp and corn chowder (I found it bland).
$8 large Italian Wedding Soup, bread, banana & chocolate. The soups, fruit & chocolate change daily. Have your money ready & Enjoy
This spot is on my regular weekday lunch rotation - just a great take-away operation. Always a good selection of soups which they rotate. All of them are hearty - even the lobster bisque, which ain’t a bad thing, with lots of good hunks of lobster. I also like that they throw in a piece of fruit. Makes it healthy! lol
I tried the lobster soup and It was delicious. The guys at the counter were really friendly. The gave me the soup with a slice of bread, a pear, and a mint chocolate. Great meal for a cold day.
Of course I knew this place from Seinfeld series and it was because of that I came here. And wow! Soups taste amazing, especially the lobster one. Service is friendly, professional and fast. What to ask more? Excellent experience. I’ll definitely come again.
I cannot say enough good things about the lunch that we got from this place. We got the New England Clam chowder and the potato soup with the lobster roll. Wow! You wanna talk about just a really cool place to get something to eat it is literally tucked away on 55th St. and he wouldn’t even know it was there if you didn’t look for it. But it is absolutely amazing. The soup was so fresh tasting in the lobster rolls so light yet so decadent.
I wish I could try all the soups from here but I only got to try the chicken tortilla and it was surprisingly good to me. I think for the price with the sundries you get it’s good value! Central Park is about 10 min walk away, and the perfect place to enjoy the soup.
The lobster roll was amazing! It was unexpected surprising.
I recently had a lobster roll $24 at some restaurant and I got so disappointed.
However, this place had an amazing lobster roll for $14.
I got the chicken corn chowder and it was good as expected.
The staffs were kind and polite.
I would definitely recommend this place!
I can’t wait for trying other soups!
(Btw, I got an orange. I’m not sure whether it’s part of menu or not. I guess it’s probably on the house)
How have I not left a review for this place !! Been coming here ever since I saw it on Seinfeld. Being from the NE- these guys know how to LOBSTER! It’s moist- it’s flavorful and it’s fresh! No frozen fish here. I Always get the lobster bisque and today, the lobster roll- it’s a warm bun sprinkled in warm butter sauce. Then take a walk 3 blocks to Central Park and enjoy!
Take out only. The gentleman who takes care of you is great. Very nice and meticulous with your order. He wiped the side of the soup cup to make sure it was clean. Lobster roll is $12 and n a toasted buttered hot dog bun. I asked them to hold the mayo and just add a little melted butter which was a good call. A little shredded iceberg on the base of the roll and lobster on top. Shrimp and corn chowder is yummy and loaded with shrimp. Great option when you just want takeout.
We came here on a rainy day and it was AMAZING! The lobster bisque had a good amount of lobster, the potato & bacon soup was a popular choice (for good reason!) and the tomato bisque warmed your heart. Overall, good soup!
Have wanted to try this for years. Tried the lobster bisque and chicken and rice. Amazing! I have never had Lobster Bisque this good. Top if off with the bread, plum, and Andes mint. Looking forward to going back.
I had to try this place now that I am in the city, and I've always been a huge fan of Seinfeld. I went for the lobster bisque, and it did not disappoint. I also got a piece of bread, fruit, and chocolate mint (the irony 😄). I will definitely come back.

My second time back and all I have to say is, What took me so long to try it? My friend John Angel posted his soup a few days before I tried it for myself. First time I had the Lobster Bisque and my wife had the Black Bean soup. It was amazing. It's probably been about a week and a half and I couldn't wait to go back. Today I tried the Jambalaya (Newman voice). So good I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to order next time. I thought I was going to have the Chili soup today but is wasn't on today's menu. They rotate it because there are so many options for this cozy spot. Whole wheat bread, tangerine and the Andy's chocolate mint are a great touch that's unexpected but just adds to the experience. We can all use some extra Vit C now can't we? Can't wait to go back!
The Lobster Bisque did not disappoint! Large chunks of Lobster and incredible flavor. The Lobster roll had plenty of Lobster and will definitely get it again. The staff was friendly and they even put a free banana in our bag. Not sure if this is still the soup place that was made popular by Seinfeld, because the signs outside had “The Original Soup Man” covered up. All in all, I would definitely come back for more!
