the quintessential NYC greasy spoon—without the actual “greasy”! tons of character, generous portions, great food, and friendly staff/owner. my absolute fav’ breakfast joint since 1991! i remember the old French guy who owned(?)/worked the grill when the current owner was a waitress. this is THE PLACE for early morning breakfast! get there early cuz it crowds up quickly by 10 - 11 am.

This place is like it has jumped out of an 80's movie in New York and we love it! Best all American breakfast around!

what can I say. Been going there since the 80's. Now that it's hipster city, still great. Can't beat their home fries.

Rustic, old and ultimately authentic! With the 60 year old Cypriot Greek waiter cleaning making stripping string beans at a random table and the waitress shaping meatballs, like it was my aunts kitchen.

A Good Ole Traditional Diner. Everything you would expect from a traditional little diner. You can sit at the bar in front of the grill or at a wobbly table and choose from traditional diner fare: eggs, bacon, omelets, etc. If you're looking for a good ole traditional diner, this is your place. One bonus item you'll find at La Bonbonniere that you won't find at most diners: a side of fried plantains. SO good. Get it!

Love La Bonbonniere. We were in NY this past month on our family vacation. We found La Bonbonniere as we walked the area. We loved it! The food was great as well as the service.

They have the best french toast! We also tried their pancakes, overeasy eggs, bacon, and toast. Great coffee, too! We will be back!

Hudson Street hides a gem, an amazingly cheap, casual, cash-only gem. La Bonbonniere is the size of my bedroom, a long narrow strip of dressed-down Americana...

I am a native New Yorker who has walked past this place a thousand times, but never eaten there, for a variety of reasons. No time, no money, too crowded. Today, the stars alligned, and I could and did. While I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit this famous but affordable establishment, I wish to pass on the message that they should update the menu prices on their Google listing. I took pictures of the current menu and a couple of snapshots of the interior. Obviously, the outdoor dining area, the shed on the street taking up valuable potential parking spaces, is a pandemic era addition. Yes, the interior of the original building is really that small, even smaller but slightly wider than the former Moonstruck Diner. (The real Moonstruck Diner was not big enough to do a song-and-dance movie sequence in, the wait staff had to turn sideways to walk between the cafe tables and the counter, and it was never as clean as the movie set.) Don't get me wrong, I have no complaints about the food or the service at La Bonbonniere, it is what it is, but please inform the public about the current prices on your profile.

I visited here because of The Marvelous Maisel. It was a filming location for a cafe in the show. The food was SO GOOD. I got their “famous” French toast and I highly recommend. We got coffee in the iconic NY blue coffee cups. It is a very NYC cafe. Small, old, quick and quiet service and I loved it even more for these reasons. It is cash only so take cash!

This is THE place for a no frills, solid breakfast in the village (at really great prices). Get there nice and early to avoid the weekend crowd and make sure to bring cash (the dozens of "cash only" signs on the wall will be sure to remind you). Try the famous French toast, it's heavy but lives up to the name. The corned beef hash and eggs are nothing fancy, but they taste great. They serve coffee in these blue cups that you usually get at a corner bagel/coffee stand I'm the city on your way to work. I live in NYC, but the whole experience made me nostalgic.

Great breakfast spot for quick, simple but tasty food! Great portion sizes too and very filling. You can customise orders easily and they were happy to make changes. Great vibes and a nice change from all the flashy places around town. Would highly recommend a visit.

Great fast filling breakfast!! Been here 3 times on my trip and it keeps on getting better!! I've had the eggs with ham, corned beef hash, and Canadian bacon. The Canadian bacon in the corned beef hash were/are my favorites!!!! If I had more time I'd try the pancakes 🥞... tomorrow?!?!?!

It ain’t fancy, but it’s tasty. The bacon, eggs and pancakes were just right. The service was quick. The prices were a bargain for New York.

Only in New York would people wait an hour in the freezing cold to sit in a wooden structure and enjoy coffee in paper cups with servers that barely acknowledge you. But alas, we keep coming back, because the price is right and the food is delicious. Favorites are the two eggs over easy with sausage ($7.50) and western omelette ($8.50), both served with home fries and toast. The blueberry pancakes are soo good too – they have a soft and fluffy interior with perfectly crisp edges. The restaurant is cash only and there are ~15 signs to remind you so (along with an ATM available). If you are looking for no-frills tasty diner breakfast food in a sea of frou-frou West Village brunch joints, La Bonbonniere is your best bet!

What an amazing little breakfast restaurant. Was in the area early for a meeting and the stomach was calling for some food. Found this gem quickly by looking on Google Maps. Got here after 9 so plenty of seats available. I had the Corn Beef Hash which was delicious and I ordered a slice of their famous French Toast which was out of this world. The walls are adorned with pictures of celebreties who have been here, the service was super fast and the kitchen is right in front of you so you get to watch them make your food. I would highly recommend visiting La Bonbonniere. I will have to come back and try their lunch and/or dinner.

Perfect breakfast diner. Fast paced, hot and delicious food. If there's space at the counter, walk right in and sit down. If you want a table, prepare to wait. I love their french toast with bacon. Great buzz in the place and superb value.

Came here for brunch on a weekday. We got the banana pancakes and french toast. Their menu is extensive and has all the classic brunch diner options. Both dishes were pretty good, especially for the price. This place is cash only and often has a line on the weekends.

Food is not five stars but I think this place deserves it because it's much needed in the West Village. It's fast, inexpensive, no frills. After ordering we had our food in five minutes and it was a reasonably crowded Saturday. I got the blueberry pancakes which were pretty tasty although I always wish places like these had real maple syrup. My friend had the avo omelette which was good as well (don't expect great). Oh and CASH ONLY!

TLDR: Okay interior, Fine food, Good staff, and even better prices. A great decision for breakfast. WILL FILL YOU UP :) I had breakfast here specifically the mushroom omelette and the “famous” french toast. The Omelette wasn’t anything memorable, it wasn’t seasoned well, burnt in some places an overall bland tasting. My friends got scrambled eggs on bagels which were a lot more interesting in terms of flavor and texture so I’m sure one can find better food, I just wasn’t lucky. The fries are also subject to preference, personally I’m not a fan of mushy potato chunks but both my friends liked the style of “home fries,” also they were seasoned well. The french toast is pretty good albeit it isn’t the most memorable food I’ve had, not sure this was worth the price. At the end of the day in terms of food, the prices are VERY low for NYC and you are getting good food in quantities that WILL fill you up. On a more nitpicky note, don’t bring your date here, the interior isn’t the best. The space is small, and while we found seating, there was an open gallon of milk next to us for half our breakfast. Making it feel even smaller is the random assortment of wall decor consisting of many newspaper clippings. Somehow they manage to make the space feel even smaller than it is. Also the bathroom needs work, it has a low ceiling and is very unkempt. I didn’t have any issues with the staff but at times they seemed to annoyed with our misunderstandings or changing our mind, nothing major though.
