I recently had one of the finest and most memorable evenings in many, many years at Bâtard. John Winterman's hospitality and Markus Glocker's exquisite menu combine for an unparalleled dining experience. The unique option to design your own tasting is both fun and affordable. I highly suggest the wine paring and cheese. I challenge anyone to find a better restaurant at such a great price in NYC.

We had a great night, the food is innovative, daring and outstanding. The staff is super attentive to every detail and the chef is a great host. We did a kitchen tour and that was very nice. This place is chic with a lively, young crowd. We Absolutly loved it.!!!!

Excellent restaurant, would definitely come back. With my wife went on a Friday night for dinner and we had 3 and 4 courses. Overall food was excellent (better that I expected!), service OK but wouldn´t say this is "fine dining" as vibe was relax and service a bit informal (particularly considering it was a Michelin restaurant). The good 1) The cappelletti where one of the best dishes I've had in any restaurant. Unfortunately, it seems they just took it out of the menu. 2) The duck brest was excellent. I normally not a fan of this dish but the preparation and the combination of flavours was brilliant. 3) The machego cheesecake was on the strong side but exactly what I like. A great variant of this dish. Could have improved: 1) Terrine: Was okeyish. I´ve made better at home. 2) Service: To informal for what I was expecting. Despite the opportunity areas, would definetely come back and is a great value for money experience.

Just when I was about to give up on the quality of food in NY during my week long visit, i got to celebrate my birthday at Bâtard. Everything was on point, the bread was warm, the tartare was perfectly seasoned, they also got the doneness of the meats right. The cocktail packed a big punch, and it was such a memorable meal. I fell in love at this dinner. Pity you guys are closing!

Every single dish tastes like it was made with love. The ingredients balance each other out, resulting in a truly pleasing experience to the palate. Some ingredients at times might make you wonder what they are exactly, since they may taste very familiar or completely exotic. The dishes are carefully and thoughtfully plated and the cooking technique is impeccable. I, for instance, had the duck leg confit as an entree which was tender and juicy on the inside but the skin was crispy and bright. The cubed potato it was on blew me away - the simplicity of roasted potato was elevated in such a way I can humbly say it was my favorite. The desserts were not too sweet and portions are small (like a taster) which is perfect to wrap up a delicious three course meal. Each of the members of staff - from the host to the server and runner - were prompt and efficient. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and was able to make great recommendations. Even his tone of voice was soothing and it was pleasant to have him around. One thing I particularly thank is at the end of our meal he politely *asked* if he could bring the check; he did not drop it like in many other restaurants. In terms of hygiene, the surfaces, utensils and outfits were clean. The restroom is average and somewhat underwhelming in comparison to such a great experience. The dining room is ample, yet not huge. This is somewhere you definitely go for the food and food alone. Perfect for dates and small gatherings. Great restaurant to book a reservation during restaurant week since you get the same quality for a reduced fee. Recommended!

Modern French fare with a flair! Lovely stop, perfect for dates or intimate groups. Beautiful ambiance and excellent service. The menu offers tasting options of 2 / 3 / 4 courses that you can mix and match as you please. I did a 3 course meal, while my wife opted for the 3 course restaurant week prix fixe. Food was all delicious, but portions were a bit small for the price. Overall 4.5 stars out of 5.

All dishes were delicious. We loved the customizable menu. Our server was knowledgeable, had great energy, and was attentive. Their take on beef tartare was the highlight of the night. Great upscale choice that isn’t quite as pretentious and expensive as other Michelin starred restaurants.

The space was so nice! It was not very crowded, the service was great as well. But the food itself was amazing. I really felt it was worth it and it tasted great.

We came here for one of my friend's birthday dinner. The place looks smaller than we thought. The service was great! The food was delicious. I had the octopus, grilled very well and it went well with the spicy sauce. My main course was the dry aged strip lion, cooked medium rare. Which melted in my mouth with the butter. 🤤 I've also tried the chicken in which I thought the chicken would be dry but to my surprise it was very juicy. My dessert for choice was the buckwheat cornbread, although the bread was a little dry, the flavors were all there. If they would add a bit more of the vanilla bean ice cream on top then the dessert would be good. I had a rather very good experience here and would definitely come back again for some more.

A nice place to go in restaurant week, but not super amazed. Fish dorade entree is delicious, all appetizers (salad lyonnaise, cured salmon and broccoli soup) are good. Dessert and beef entree didn’t stand out.

This is my second time visit Bâtard. It’s a really nice restaurant with great environment. Pretty hard to find from outside tho. All dishes are pretty and a little bit too salty. The octopus dish is their signature dish, look really cute, taste okay. Love their Italian wedding soup and the pear dessert that comes with a cheese flavor 🍨 . They have a lot of different flavor ice cream btw.

Excellent meal at this famous Michelin star restaurant. We came for restaurant week and had an excellent meal. We tried the salmon rilette, mushroom and cauliflower, trout, pasta, chicken sausage and chocolate mousse dessert with cashews. Everything was very good. We also got the summer cocktail part of restaurant week menu.

Everything was fantastic. The ambiance was great, the food was amazing. I just wish that they had given us more bread! Our server was really helpful in our wine selection and with our cheese plate selection (not shown in the picture). The only sad part was the night flew and before we knew it we were on dessert. It was a great price for a 4 course menu and I really recommend the pork belly and the duck breast.

Romantic, high-end restaurant that costs an arm and a leg. They have a great drink selection; they even have mocktails! The heirloom tomatoes are really flavorful paired with the cheese spread. The main courses are also cooked to perfection. The desserts are the star of the show; the rose vacherin is cloudy and tastes like a rose garden. This is an excellent place for a luxury dinner, but one should watch their wallet here.

Exceptional French cuisine that's both modern and delightful. The flavors were all pleasing, rich yet subtle. Hamachi and beef tartare appetizers were super fresh. Squash blossom farci was beautifully plated. The roasted foie gras was perhaps the best I've ever tried. The outer skin was perfectly roasted just to give a hint of flavor and crispiness. We tried the striped bass, strip loin and aged duck for main course. Again, all three dishes were made to perfection. Finally, all of the desserts were just flat out amazing. Everyone at our table were speechless as we devoured everything in sight. As if that wasn't enough, the wine selections were all great. The sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful.

We were on vacation in NYC for my wife’s birthday. We decided to try several Michelin star restaurants during our visit. Batard did not disappoint and frankly was a better experience than another similar French cuisine restaurant we tried a few days earlier. We were impressed with the classic dishes such as steak tartare and the duck. Overall the meal was excellent and well-paced. Although we did not try the cheeses, we sat near the cheese station and it appeared that they had a selection of authentic cheeses, at least judging by the smells.

September 22, 2018 This past Saturday night we made plans to have dinner at Batard, I've been there more then most of the guests so I'm quite familiar with the management and staff. We all new ahead of time that we'd be in for a culinary delight along with text book service. Our reservation was for 8:30 and by 8:35 we had all arrived were and seated at the table we had requested. Our server came over and introduced herself and the sommelier walked over to greet me and I introduced him to the rest of our party. The ladies decided on the 2 course dinner and my friend and I naturally opted for the 3.For the appetizers the ladies had a grilled Spanish Octopus with red pepper, germ lettuce, queen olives and almonds, an excellently composed dish. The other lady had the Summer Salad with cherry tomato, fired zucchini, yellow squash accompanied with fresh dill.My friend had the Yellow-fin Tuna Crudo with avocado, crispy quinoa and black lime. The flavor profile was really amazing. I had the Foie Gras & Rabbit Terrine with hazelnuts, sugar plums along with pickled vegetables. If this is a dish your taste buds are used to it was wonderful. For our mid-course we both as it turned out ordered the same dish which was the Garganelli which consisted of the garganelli, duck confit, heirloom tomatoes and summer beans. This dish was executed perfectly. for the entree course my wife went with the Halibut along with "fairy-tale eggplant, (which sold her on the dish,) chanterelles along with a smoked chile. It really was delicious, nothing was left on her plate. My other friend had the Branzino with gold bar squash and a savory tomato chutney. She thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend went with the dry-aged Strip loin with a Parmesan custard, baby carrots and a red wine sauce. While I opted for the Berkshire Pork Schnitzel with a fingerling potato salad and a cucumber mache. Great dishes all of them. Of course we shared a couple of deserts we had the Poached Pears with an almond Florentine, ricotta, along with a brown butter ice cream. The second was the Manjari chocolate tart toasted meringue with an espresso ice cream. We had a wonderful culinary experience which definitely complemented our wines. As always the service is first class and we look forward to our next meal. Thank you! *************************************************************************** A group of us this past April decided to have one of our regular wine dinners, (we bring our on,) at this wonderful French accented establishment. Boy were we in for a shock! We expected good food but what we got was an exceptional meal. We started with the hamachi and steak tartar as our appetizers, (not a hint of egg as a binder either,) from there to the classic foie gras with a spring roll on the side for a crunchy element. Next course was a lobster dish done 2 ways one in a creamy smoked sauce and the other in a pastry crust. For the entrees we shared, the rabbit, duck and the potted chicken. Desert was a cheese offering. Oh yes the wines were extraordinary. We were treated like royalty and the service was spot on. If you like your wines and have a few nice ones, and want to compliment them with great food and service here’s the place to dine!
