A must try place in NY. A small place serving excellent food.
The place is always crowded with a line. Most people are here for takeaway. We were lucky to get a table that day.
Falafel had an excellent patty with fresh veggies and even more tasty sauce 9/10
Shawarma. Lamb shawarma again with veggies and and a nice sauce. Great but felt the meat more on the chewy side. Maybe a better cut? Nevertheless excellent. 9/10.
Thank you for the good food.
Super affordable and DELICIOUS Mediterranean food!! I got their vegetarian combo sandwich with Falafel and hummus. There’s not a lot of seating but Washington Square Park is a couple blocks away. Highly recommend this place 👍👌
This is certainly one of the best Kebobs you can find in New York City and also around the world. The falafel was really good too. Space is tight for sitting and service is as friendly as one can find in NYC. Definitely worth a try.
There service is quick and it's a small outlet.
I felt the quantity could have been better.
I had the veg falafel sandwich, it was simple and nice.
But personally I would prefer some additional flavours to it.
they serve a real spicy sauce on the counter and that's absolutely beautiful in taste. but super spice so be careful.
Cheap outstanding. Schawarma (rotisserie lamb) and chicken are excellent. Falafel is very good. Hummus and baba ganoush delicious. .........
The place is good ,very much reasonable and one of the authentic place to have falafel in newyork
Nearby place to NYU and well known place and nearby all blocks have variety of food to choose from
A take-away place near Washington Square Park. Their kebap is good but it will be better, if they had seating. Worth to visit. The price was also fine.
The go-to place for a falafel fix. The gorgeous falafel with the delectable hummus topped with fresh salads can suffice for a filling yet cost-effective lunch.
Very good quick meal and the hottest sauce around! Food is fresh, service quick, and if you love hot sauce on your meal then this is your place.
The chicken in pita bread is to die for! The kebabs are very close to the kind you'd find in India. Almost chicken tikka. Got a nice charr going on. Yummy yum yum.
Holy falafel! How can something this cheap taste so good? Part of me is happy to have finally tasted this Middle Eastern goodness, and another is saddened, even flabbergasted that I had never been here before after a night out abusing my liver.
Mamoun's is one of those hole in the wall places that has been around since the 1970's and certainly looks the part. Decor is non-existant, as is any real seating other than a few cramped tables and a bench out by the front door, and the walls are covered by worn out wood paneling and faded pictures. Honestly, no one really cares as evidenced by the non-stop line of people coming and going this past Thursday night.
If there is one thing they do here they do it good - and that is make a kick ass falafel sandwich! Only $2.50 - I kid you not! An excellent bargain for a most enjoyable taste sensation. The guys behind the counter are super quick no-nonsense types that keep the line moving. Order your food and it comes out in about two minutes. Lentil soup was also very tasty at $3 and an ice cold Poland Spring water was only $1. You can't get any cheaper than this - and it's hella good!
Like it hot and spicey? There is a squeeze bottle of liquid flame that is usually by the counter or sitting on one of the tables. This dark red sauce will surely tingle your taste buds.
I'll be honest - I hate lamb. Won't eat it, so the shawarma is something I can't comment on. Still, there is more than enough here with the tasty falafel, chicken kabobs, and hummus on the small menu of offerings.
Mamoun's is cash only, but it's so cheap and good that all you need is a few bucks to enjoy a quality bite. For those of you here that only gave this place two stars step off - there's a TGI Friday's somewhere with a seat reserved with your name on it!
No trip to New York is complete without diving into this culinary awesomeness that is Mamoun's.
The falafels and the hot sauce are the best in the world.
While they have three outlets in NYC-JC, this Greenwich village one is the most popular.
Go at any time of the day or night, weekday or weekend, and you will have hoards of people lining up.
The falafel sandwich and the baba ganoush sandwich is amazing. The hot sauce is out of the world. Mind you, it is very spicy. Be ready with a bottle of water or something sweet while you are having it.
Absolutely inexpensive , it is a perfect place for a quick, in-and-out bite at any time.
Absolutely fantastic sandwiches (recommend shawirma highly). Great side of hummus and the hot sauce is crazy hot but good.
Amazing food and great atmosphere! A great place to stop if you and a friend are traveling through the city and looking to grab a quick and delicious meal. I highly recommend the shawarma!
WOW. Best falafel in new york ive had yet. both locations east and wests are KILLING IT!!
Don't forget about the shawarma. The falafel is great AND SO IS THE SHAWARMA! I think the secret is their great tahini sauce. Sitting in there to eat one afternoon when I was visiting the city I saw many people come in to buy a bottle....
Came from Mississippi to try it, was not disappointed. I love falafel. It's no secret. The place in my home town is a frequent favorite. First thing I wanted to try when I took a trip to New York was to try the falafel. All of the locals suggested Mamouns.
First of all, it was a hole in the wall with only a few tables. Not bad at all. Their service was fast and I had a blast merely waiting around. People would order in the front of the line, get stuck by the wave of people, necessitating passing order instructions and money from the back of the line to the front, and food from the front to the back. It was a nice experience and it was a generally cooperative, fun, environment.
Secondly, the food tasted almost exactly like my favorite local place (Aladdin's on Lakeland, Jackson MS). This is a GOOD THING. The best falafel in NY and the best falafel in MS share the same in common.
Love it. Go if you're in NY!
Fantastic Falafel at Great Prices. This tiny place offers up some big and beautiful flavors. This is one of the least expensive eats in the city and the food is fantastic.
I came across this place when I attended NYU and well frankly time has passed. What happens many times is that many of the great places fade and others rise. In the case of Mamoun's the quality has never faded. It is fantastic.
It is very close to the West 4th Street train station and an amazing place to go after a wonderful evening in the West Village. Count on taking your food To Go as the couple of tables in the restaurant are usually busy.
A New York Institution. You really can't beat this place when it comes to Falafel. For $2.50, it is a steal by Manhattan standards and they're open all night! The next time you're in the village, check this place out and brings lots of napkins!
Good Falafel, Great Value. Sometimes when I'm on the prowl for a good place to eat, I look for the restaurant with the longest line. With a queue out the door and into the street on a late afternoon, Mamoun's was the place.
I would say that Mamoun's isn't popular because they make the best falafel in the city. It's popular because they provide one of the best values in the city. The falafel sandwich is definitely tasty, and when I went it was on special for $2.50 (normally $3). Add a bottled water for $1 and that's one cheap meal.
Note that it's pretty much a carry-out only place as there are only two small tables inside. I recommend walking a block to Washington Square Park and eating there.
America's Best Falafel. Been going here since the early 80s. Simply the best falafel that can be bought in the USA. Get the hummus sandwich, falafel with extra balls ... and about 25 napkins for what will be a messy treat!!! Plan on a 5-10 minute wait in what literally is the biggest hole in the wall serving deliciousness available in New York City. A must for locals and visitors alike!
Best cheap eats in nyc.... Best cheap eats in NYC. Love Mamoun's! Falafel and hummus is delish. Good hot sauce too. Be forewarned though--there is very little seating inside and outside the restaurant so expect to go elsewhere (there is a park like area with benches 1 block or two away near the subway entrance in the area) or standing up. Definitely a gem.
Mamouns is the cheapest but its also the best. Falafels Kufta shwarma and shish kebab sandwiches and platters done just right. This is such a great place and such a great value.
Great little place. This is awsome for a quick bite. the place small so dont go looking for a place to sit and eat slowly there wont be room. great to grab and go and cheap to.
Sharma madness!!!. $5 will get you a tender juicy sharma & a cool bev to wash it down with...
best place for quick lunch by far!
Mmm Mmm. A hole in the wall with cheap and delicious eats.
Tasty. cheap. filling.. Enough said.
Ode to Mamoun. At 3am in the morning, where else would you go after a night's drinking, smoking hookah, dancing, karaokeing, bar hopping and music in the west village? Food is dirty cheap but delicious. Service is super fast. You come here for great food after a night's partying to recharge and go to work / go home.
The place is an absolute dump, but at 3AM while one is stumbling through the village, you yearn for haven like this. Fast, cheap and hits the spot. There's very limited seating, but Washington Square Park is one block away. Give it a try!
The Best Falafel By A Mile. I've been coming out here since I was a kid just for this sandwich, and nothing has changes in about 30 years. Nothing compares to it. Nothing.
Holy falafel Batman! Photo credit – Mamoun’s Falafel Holy falafel! How can something this cheap taste so good? Part of me is happy to have finally tasted this Middle Eastern goodness, and another is saddened, perhaps even flabbergasted that I had never eaten here in all my years in NYC. After a night out around Greenwich Village abusing my liver with a bunch of friends we happened upon this falafel mecca to chow down. I was instantly hooked. Mamoun’s Falafel is one of those hole in the wall places that has been around since the 1970′s and certainly looks the part. Decor is non-existant, as is any real seating other than a few cramped tables and a bench out by the front door, and the walls are covered by worn out wood paneling and faded pictures. I observed customer after customer arriving hungry with a yearning for falafel goodness, and w
Every student in New York City you talk to will know about Mamoun's. The reason? Falafel for $2.50. A gigantic platter for $5. The prices for other sandwiches are more average (my chicken schwarma, below, was $5). I am never unsatisfied here, but never wo
Having a sandwich at Mamoun’s is quite an experience! I tried their falafel and shawarma sandwiches and they were both awesome! The shawarma was made of lamb which naturally included some fat but it was not too greasy, making it super delicious!
I’d suggest this place if you’d like to grab a bite since their seating is limited. However, if you find space in one of their tiny tables, perhaps a plate is worth trying. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend Mamoun’s!
Been coming here for longer then i care to say and its always my feel good place!!! Always make friend eating outside and this time was no difference!! Food is always on point and the people watching os unmatched worldwide!!! I'll never stop loving Mamoons..!!!

Fresh and flavorful - highly recommended. Purported to be one of the first Falafel places in the US opening in the 70s.
Mamoun's Falafel deserves a solid 5 out of 5! The food was beyond amazing, and the best part? We didn't even have to wait 5 minutes to indulge in their delicious falafel. Although it's cash only, they've got your back with a conveniently located ATM nearby.
And let's not forget about the prices – super affordable! If you're looking for top-notch falafel without breaking the bank, Mamoun's is the place to be.
Visited this place on recommendation. It’s a tiny place with yummy food and the prices are also very reasonable. They are super fast and your food is ready within minutes. Our only issue was with the person at the billing counter. He was rude and didn’t appreciate his behaviour.
Don’t forget to carry cash as this place is CASH only.
The 70’s are alive and well at Mamoun’s Falafel. Excellent texture. Good fresh and never skimpy. The manhattan is the way to go.
REALLY quick. Flavorful and tasty. Small place not many places to sit but its worth to try. Really good prize for their food.
I've had my fair share of falafels. They're the best to ever do it. Been hooked on them since childhood. I moved 200 miles away, but I often visit when I come into the city. Official!
I had the best falafel and shawarma today . Highly recommend this place !!!
falafel sandwich is just perfect. i loved it and am waiting to taste the rest of the menu. there is not much place to sit and eat. so you can take away your food. dont forget to ask napkin because it can get really messy while eating 😉Btw CASH ONLY
