Came here after wanting to taste Morimoto’s cooking for many years, and it was absolutely worth it. Unbelievable flavours, textures and presentations. By far the best Japanese, period, full stop. This man is an artist and his art is worth seeing, trying and coming back for. Simply wow. Stunning in every imaginable sense.
What can I say. Beautiful. Real “city vibe”. From the music to the cuisine. The “ Iron Chief” . Does not disappoint. The Morimoto signature Martini is a Must. Enjoy the experience .
Morimoto is fine dining place in greenwich village .you are going to love sushi and this place and I loved to coming here again and again...
We came for an early dinner. Service was excellent and so was the food. We did the Omakase with the wine and sake pairings. Although all the food was very good and the wine and sake were fine.
Obsessed ! I can never go to NYC without dropping by. I actually got yo meet chef Morimoto once😀
Try their tuna pizza thing...it sounds wrong but it tastes soooo right. Ive tried as many things that I can and I have no complaints.
Careful though their miso soup surprisingly has pork bone in it. And the only reason I found out is bc the girl on the next table told her waiter that she is vegetarian.
The first thing I wanted to do when I arrived in New York City (NYC) was eat - fortunate enough to have been to NYC a few times before, I knew what the city had to offer. So one late night myself (Mirko) and a few friends decided to treat ourselves to something nice and visited Morimoto, a Japanese fine dining restaurant opened by none other than Iron Chef Japanese - Masuharu Morimoto.
What can I say - I love this place and Chef Morimoto is a class act. Started tonight with the hamache and caviar, then a tasting of nigiri and sashimi, chef's choice. His restaurants are just fun.
Incredible omakase. Savoured every bite. The sashimi appetizer, uni/oyster/foie gras, nigiri, and surf and turf were the standouts for me. Gorgeous space.
The crab roll and duck duck duck were my favorites. Reasonable pricing for a good and elegant meal. Great ambiance (you should definitely see the restrooms :))
Awesome place for a lunch date. Of course the sushi was great, but what blew me away was the dessert. I am not a fan of coffee nor green tea, but their desserts were so, so good that I polished them clean!

Iron Chef Morimoto has forever changed the way i view Sushi serving restaurants.
I consider myself a sushi connoisseur and my love for sushi has taken me to various places with varying levels of satisfaction. But this trendy joint blew me away.
The giant bottle wall which greets you on entering has a very chic Japan meets outer space vibe to it due to an interesting play of lights. The modern decor with a dining room overlooking the kitchen, beautiful high ceilings, even the bathrooms which were robotic (too much automation), all added to the appeal.
The translucent chopsticks were a nice touch and prepared us for the meal ahead.
The Toro Tartar was unique, its their signature appetiser and it comes finely chopped on a slab with caviar on top and accompanied by sauces and garnishes.
Oyster Foie Gras tasted good, loved the teriyaki sauce which was put on them.
The Chefs Sushi Combo was spectacular. I am at a loss for words about how to describe it. I think i'll let the pictures speak for them-self.
The service was courteous & efficient and just perfect.
Presentation and Fresh Flavours is what this place is all about. From the first bite to the last, this meal was a feast for the senses and kept us begging for more.

The best sushi I've ever had. Loved the hydrangea martini and buffalo shrimp appetizer. Service was great. We sat at the bar which was better lit and more casual. Would totally go that route again, especially bc we didn't have reservations and waited only a short time.
The service and food knowledge the staff had was exceptional. There are dishes they make table side which is always a great experience. Not quite the best seafood I was expecting which was a surprise but I would still go back.
Two words: Iron Chef. Marvelous location, the interior design is breathtaking. Their rolls are so tasty and consistent, and the crispy rock shrimps come in two flavors, the regular spicy sauce and the wasabi aoli! A perfect experience
This is a special place for special occasions.
There is not a single element in this place thats out of place.
The decor, lighting, ambience....
Words cant do justice to the food here.
What blew our mind was the Tofu made in 5 mins right on your table.
From soy milk to silken tofu in 5 mins. and what a explosion of taste it was in the mouth.
Ought to experience it to enjoy it !
Excellent Asian meal. I did not try the renowned sushi here on my recent visit.
I did start with clam miso soup, and that was flavorful and delicious. My Pork Katsy sandwich was tender and I was happily surprised at the portion size. I liked the modern and fresh atmosphere.
Decided to splurge on dinner and ended up at Morimoto at Chelsea NYC. Ordered the multi course Morimoto omakase.
If this is fine Japanese dining then i want MORE of it!
What an experience. I have never tried such mind blowing Japanese food before.
At $ 135 plus taxes its worth every penny.
WOW !!! MUST MUST TRY !
Fantastic experience! Love the food. Would recommend.
Happy. The food was delicious and the service was great. I would come back to this restaurant.
NYC's Best - Hand's Down. This is, by far, the best restaurant in NYC. Amazing service; we've had the tasting menu twice now - and it's always a surprise, and I'm impressed. If I lived in NYC, I'd be there every week. My favourite spot for an amazing meal, great atmosphere, and excellent service.
Toro Tartare... end of message.. This location was stunning and the service was great. Some of the food was just average including some of the rolls and sashimi. The redeeming factor was the TORO TARTARE. One of the best things I had. I can eat this for breakfast ,lunch and dinner.
Overall experience: thumbs up
We ate at this restaurant for the first time... We had a pleasant experience! Great food, good service and very hip atmosphere! We will definitely return when we're in the Meetpacking district!!
Amazing food, disservice, and atmosphere! One of my favorite memories with my boyfriend was our dinner date here!!
I think that this place is good food wise, good taste and it is a pleasure to watch the sushi chefs at work, this is where the joy ends the decor is nice at first but in the end adds to the atmosphere of dull and stark, service was horrible and if the food wasn't as good I would have voted as not liking this place, sorry Iron Chef
Morimoto NYC: Good. Philly: Much Better. Having eaten at both spots, I emphatically prefer the Philadelphia location. It's quieter and more relaxing. The food is consistently great at both locations, but for what I paid for my meal, I was hoping for a more luxurious dining experience in NYC.
I'll go to the Philly restaurant before I visit the NYC location again...
Pretty good japanese food (not the best I had though) but awesome presentation for the tartar and saki! I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada so we are spoiled with Japanese restaurants here. Morimotos surpasses many places with the experience which I loved and expected from the iron chef! Try the tuna pizza- really good too!
Toro Tartare. Delicious. I tried it in Tokyo for the first time and loved it some much we had to have it again in New York.
Most memorable dining experience ever. My wife and I are huge Iron Chef fans, and when we decided to go to NYC for a long weekend last fall, I could not pass up the opportunity to bring her to Morimoto.
This decision was driven in part by the hope that maybe, just maybe, Morimoto himself would make an appearance. Although we realized the chance of this was small, we figured that even if we don't see Mr. Iron Chef himself, the dining experience would nevertheless be memorable.
Moving ahead to the day of...
Everything about the evening was spectacular. The decor was upbeat and inviting, the servers were extremely attentive, and the menu items were made from the freshest seafood ingredients I have ever tasted. The flavours in each dish were so distinct that as you ate, you could mentally deconstruct the food into each individual ingredient.... simply impeccable.
The wonderful food aside, the highlight of the night was while we were eating, when suddenly my wife told me - her voice full of exuberance - that Morimoto had just walked past our table!! Sure enough, she was right!! He then proceeded to the sushi counter where he worked his magic with the other chefs, all the while playfully posing for photos as swarms of people started approaching him.
We asked our waitress if we could get a photo with him at our table, and she obligingly told us that he would do a walk-around later on and that we would have our chance. True to her word, he did just that, and my wife and I got our picture taken with him. My wife and I were so excited... we shook his hand, and he was a complete gentleman the whole time - softspoken and pleasant in his demeanor without a trace of arrogance whatsoever.
Not getting many chances to meet real life celebrities, this was a surreal experience for both my wife and I, and it was the perfect way to cap off a lovely evening.
All in all, a magnificent dining experience we will never forget.
A unique meal, but the price renders it only for special occassions to the average Joe. I had been a fan of Morimoto and had been yearning to try his tasting menu. I finally got the chance on a birthday vacation to the city.
I had high expectations and in some way, this could have been my downfall and just slightly marred what was overall an exceptional experience.
The meal was overall unique with some very interesting combinations, but it also fell flat in one or two areas.
The presentation was beautiful, innovative and modern and executed with the highest precision for the most part; the exception being one small piece on the side of my sushi had hard skin left on it with some scales and blood. This was not appetizing and I had to struggle with my chopstick to remove it (it proved impossible and fingers had to be used). I'm not squeamish or fussy, but when a 7 course tasting menu and drinks for a party of two comes to a bill in excess of $450 I expect my 6 pieces of sushi to be flawless.
The meal started wonderfully with the torro tartare; a delight and one of the highlights of my meal. Make sure you eat the Japanese mountain peach in the ice....it's not just decoration and is meant to be eaten as a palate cleanser, in addition to being delicious.
The fluke sashimi next was delicious; the flavors were a symphony with everything from the mushrooms to the garlic to the various greens marrying perfectly. It was a little too heavy on the sesame oil for me, but my dining partner enjoyed it.
The burner of sauce with baby vegetables and a chicken ball to dip in was excellent. I couldnt fault it aside from there was not enough! I could have eaten that all night long.
The next course was one of the best things I have had the pleasure to eat; an oyster topped with uni and seared foie gras. It was decadent, unctuous and quite frankly I could have ended the night here with another few of these. Perfect in every way.
The sushi course was good; excellent sushi, with the exception of the skin/scales issue I mentioned with one of my pieces.
My partner also ordered a side of the spanner crab sashimi on the recommendation of the waitress (seasonal and not on the menu) and we were both disappointed with its mild flavor. It didnt actually taste of anything; disappointing.
The main course of garam masala lobster with lemon creme fraiche and wagyu beef sounded phenomenal and I was so very excited for this dish, expecting it to have a Morimoto twist. Unexpectedly, it lacked any twist and the dish could have been any upmarket version of surf and turf served in any good steakhouse/restaurant. The punch of the garam masala was also missing. Had I not have an outstanding lobster curry from Tamarind the night before I may not have been so disappointed with Morimotos offering and walked away with a great impression of his lobster.
The desert was a tofu cheesecake. The cheesecake was delightful, silky and creamy, but was slightly spoiled for me by a thick layer of sweet coffee syrup on the top. I didnt think it particularly enhanced any aspect of the dish, rather it smothered the beautifully refreshing taste of the cheesecake underneath.
The bean paste filled puff pastry with sesame seeds was not memorable and did not seem to have any correlation or relationship with the cheesecake it was paired with. It seemed like an additional afterthought or garnish as it didn't quite gel with the other components.
The homemade ginger ale shooter was a delight; refreshing and I would love the recipe!
The cocktails were outstanding; not too sweet and not too overpowering in flavor or alcohol. Top marks for the cocktails and uniqueness of the flavors and alcohol used.
The service was friendly and I did not feel rushed or looked down upon as some previous posts have mentioned. The only downside was that the service did get rather slow towards the end of the meal and a few questions we had asked went unanswered by our waitress. Other than that, they were knowledgable and friendly.
The space itself is beautiful; I enjoy cool, modern and chic spaces and this hit every point on my list. With a futuristic but laid back vibe I felt very relaxed but with the feeling that I was in a special at the same time. Please visit the restrooms; they are quite unusual. As this seems to be an popular place to visit I would have liked more than 3 stalls for the women's restrooms as this caused lines, especially as one was out of order.
Overall, a fascinating meal with some major highs, but a few disappointing lows. Would I go back? The answer is no, that was a once in a lifetime meal for me and the price was not worth the overall quality of the food. The experience itself was wonderful with amazing company and I wouldn't have changed it for the world, but the food was not consistently spectacular enough to make me want to return.
I would, however, return to Le Bernadin for the food in a heartbeat, as the price is in comparison and was stellar throughout.
Best meal I've had in MY LIFE. Me and my girlfriends did the 7 course tasting menu. Every single thing was amazing. The toro tartar and the fois gras oyster were life changing. Even though we were stuffed by the end, we HAD to try their tempura. It was soooo good. We also had these lychee martinis, the best ones I've tried thus far.
ONE OF BEST SUSHI SPOTS IN NYC!. I've been a fan of Masaharu Morimoto since I began watching the original "Iron Chef" many years ago! And I have had the pleasure of visiting this restauranat many times! And it has never disappointed! IT MAY DRAIN YOUR WALLET but the experience is wonderful. It is definitely some of the best sushi I have had. Besides ordering the sushi listed on the menu, always ask what special shashimi/sushi they have available. I have got to try many surprising and unique items not found at ordinary sushi spot (such as baby squid, baby eel, etc...)And the Spicy King Crab Appetizer is Highly Recommended! For a real treat go with the omakase (chef's tasting menu). With this chioce you get to experiene the Chef's true creativity. On my first visit Chef Morimoto was in the restaurant and came by to say hello to me and my girlfriend. Very nice and repectful man who cares about his art and his clientele. This made the visit extra special and everytime back since then the food is always on point.
I was dancing in my seat. Grade: A+
For my birthday this year, my lovely wife got me something very special--reservations to Morimoto in New York City.
For years I've been intrigued watching Masaharu Morimoto, one of the original "Iron Chefs". His approach to ingredients, preparation, and presentation have always fascinated me, and I'd said for years that I'd love to try his food.
Not only was I not disappointed, but this was one of the best meals of my life--definitely the best with raw seafood.
For a chef with this degree of creativity, I had to do the omakase (chef's tasting menu). Every single item was a treasure. The tuna tartare, presented beautifully in wooden servers on ice with several accompaniments, was exquisite. That and the sushi course literally had me doing the happy dance in my seat, and subsequent courses met the growing desire for more.
What made the experience even better was that Chef Morimoto was in the restaurant and came by to say hello. Actually, I had the pleasure of speaking to him three times during our visit. Wonderful gentleman who cares about his art and his clientele.
I want to go back!
Went last nigh and had a fabulous meal. If you are not into communal tables ask for your own table when making a res. Calamari salad a must. Beef carpaccio just as delicious. Had the bin bop and other entree was mixed seafood was told both were most popular to order. Nice selection of cold sake and had chic cake with caramel popcorn for desert. Did I forget to mention the sushi roll was great too! One thing my husband did not like was staring at the wall behind me. Kind of blah to not look out at the million dollar decor like I did
Woah, this place is GREAT!. The best food. Seriously.
Phenomenal, an experience. From the decor, the service and of course the food. Morimoto was one of the best culinary experiences. Every bite was suprising and delightful. There were so many flavors, textures, and combinations that I had not had before.
The atmosphere is a lot like a popular club.. a bit noisy and crowded. But once you are seated.. it is all good.
The food was both innovative and satisfying.
A dining experience I wont soon forget. And one I hope to relive sooner than later.
Great night out. Had an awesome meal with my mate to end our trip to new York. The food was great we had the chefs menu and the food tasted great. I must on the list when in NYC..
My favourite Iron Chef. Worth EVERY penny!!
Morimoto doesn't disappoint! First of all, the restaurant is this impressive work of art. It's like being inside a crystal cube. It is out of this world -from the high-tech bathroom downstairs to the glass fountain stairwell. The servers were knowledgable and cultured.. not to mention gracious! Had the kobe carpaccio (superb!), kumamoto oysters foie gras (expensive for just 3 measly pieces), black cod, tempura (love the blue cheese dressing!!), unagi &foie gras... had a long island for 13 bucks felt it was watered down. the hazelnut mousse was ok. nevertheless, worth every penny! it was my second time and I'd definitely go back!
Excellent food, service, and ambiance. The fish (raw and cooked) was prepared to perfection. Great experience overall.
Go with the chef's selection. Great sushi - let the experts guide your decision. Make reservations in advance.
Innovative and delightful!. Fresh and innovative. Every bite delightful, comlex flavors that were out of this world. Affordable, too!
Beyond expectation. I didn't know I could like cooked fish that much...and my friend didn't know she could like raw fish that much...
strongly recommend you to try the sampler.
Never fails to wow me. THE BEST SUSHI EXPERIENCE IN NYC....AND MAYBE THE EAST COAST
We always spend a lot of money here and never feel like we didn't walk away the winners! The service, food and dining experience at MORIMOTO is top notch.
Oysters the size of baseballs...on steroids?? HUGE!
The vegan sushi selections fo myself were plentiful....the salad is too good to be called a green mixed salad....
The sake is great...the dessrts are beautiful
...and the vibe is VIBE-LICIOUS! Lots of very classy people enjoying a well deserved night out--so it seems. Great date spot, although its brighter than most rest....but hey I want to be able to see my lovely sushi masterpieces!
Great experience. Morimoto has a nice decor, very modern, interesting and clean. We had to have a reservation to eat here. We were seated right away but in the "lounge" downstairs, not in the airy open upstairs. The mixed drinks were pretty tasty, as was the food. It was good, but not as good as all the hype. For the price (over $150 for 2 people) and for the LONG walk from the subway I am not sure it was worth. I am glad I went there once. It was quite pretty there.
Morimoto is prototypical New York; trendy, packed, loud, but above all else, good. In fact, it's actually phenomenal, which I was shocked to find myself saying. Usually when a place has so much hype for sushi, it's because it appeals to the lowest common denominator with great maki rolls with "americanized" ingredients. Certainly Morimoto has it's fair share of spicy sauces, but it also has incredibly fresh and unique sushi that still manages to appeal to even the snobbiest of sushi connoisseurs. The Food is incredibly unique. Take the Toro Tartar (pictured right) for example - it comes finely chopped on a slab with "caviar" on top. While the accompanying sauces and garnishes aren't for me, the tartar certainly is; the colour is as you'd expect with Toro, and the taste is outstanding. If you've heard of Morimoto before, you've certainly heard about this appetizer - and it lives up to the hype. In addition to the sashimi platter, I also did my usual and ordered a piece of nigiri th
Photo credit – Yelp Iron Chef Cuisine Reigns Supreme! Having dined at Morimoto in NYC on a few separate occasions I must admit to having a rocking time at both! The most important thing to remember is to make sure you get a seat at the sushi bar! This is where all the action happens and the chefs will chat with you if you are friendly to them. To see them work up close is really cool. It’s entertainment! Plus, on both occasions the Iron Chef Morimoto himself was holding court there and he came over to speak to us both times. Really nice and warm guy. Was very interested what we thought of his food, which was terrific by the way. When you pull up to the place the outside is covered with a flowing red drapery across the front. You can’t miss it. Entering the place you are greeted by the front desk staff. Both times our seats were not ready and it would be about 15 minutes to wait, so we went to the downstairs bar/lounge area. Bar area is very clear white with glowing red walls! Futuristi
The burrata itself was made with tofu skin. It was a fantastic dish: very fresh, the burrata was heavenly creamy and paired perfectly with the acidity of the tomatoes and cherry vinegar.
Morimoto is a very famous Iron Chef from Iron Chef (Japan) and Iron Chef America. He has opened up various restaurant all across the world. When I was in New York visiting Chelsea Market, I knew I had to come here. One does not simply watch Morimoto compete in Iron Chef. You gotta try the food to really see why he’s usually a winner. Morimoto is located on the outside of Chelsea Market and it has drapes of curtains by the entrance. As Alvin was taking a vacation in Waikiki, he went to Morimoto Waikiki and I went to this one. Check out his site to see what the Waikiki location has to offer. The interior is very gorgeous! Very large and spacious. They even have an open kitchen concept so you can see what the chefs are up to. Unfortunately, Morimoto wasn’t here. The big glowing centerpiece of the restaurant looks like it’s made out of cups. When you walk downstairs to the washroom, you can get a close up view of this. Also downstairs in a bar area. Morimoto Iced Tea ($7) contains fruit fl
The room was beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food was so darn delicious I am drooling as I type. Although it isn't cheap, the prices are not out of line with what you expect to
Nelson @ Chelsea Market: Chelsea Market is also the location of Food network and also the location of Iron Chef Morimoto's restaurant. The interior is really nice with a modern open design and neat tableware. My sister had already been there, and recommended a few apps to share. Toro Tartare: Osetra Caviar, sour cream, wasabi, dashi-soy. I wasn't expecting much from this dish, but when it came out it was a truly unique presentation. A thin layer of tuna was stuck onto a wooden board in a bed of ice. The sauces were lain out on another wooden platter, which included wasabi, sour cream, seaweed sauce, avocado and rice crisps. To eat, you would take your scrapper and scrap some fish off the board and then season it with some of the sauces. Everyone would get to try a little bit and while it was a small quantity, it was still tasty and enjoyable. The flavour was rich with the wasabi providing the strongest flavour, but not overpowering the other ones. The rice crisps provided a nice cr
The Special Omakase Bar is an area where Chef Masaharu Morimoto himself prepares your food while you look on. It's amazing to see such a master at work, and none of the items served can be found on the regular menu. This is not a traditional omakase in th
Loved the design , the service and the presentation. Most of the portions we're really tasty.we came during the restaurant week so it was definitely worth it. The only down side is that it's very pricey for the portions size. My friends told me there is a killer desert , but it was no available during business lunch :) would definitely come again to try the desert!
The food and service is what you expect from a fine dining place. We did the 8 course tasting menu which was so fun. If you are looking for a unique experience outside of good sushi and played entrees I highly recommend it. The restaurant is very modern. There were people dressed in business casual to jeans and a t-shirt. Sometimes famously owned restaurants can not live up to the hype, but this place was quality through-and-through.
This was a surprised anniversary dinner. It was by far the most amazing dining experience. The staff was attentive and helpful. The restaurant ambiance was relaxing with just enough amount of light. All the dishes arrived at the table were explained thoroughly. Thank you for the superb food and service.
You really do get what you pay for. It's pretty amazing and fresh food. The carpaccio salad was the best I have had. Soft shell crab was too salty but the sushi made up for it. We didn't have a reservation but were able to get a seat downstairs. The waiter was great and if you work at Google you get a discount!!!!
Came here during the restaurant week. Got a reservation and was served promptly.
I got a chicken meatball, black cod and a sesame dessert for $42. This is of very good value considering the restaurant’s normal pricing.
The black cod was well seasoned - sweet yet not too saucy. The meat was tender and juicy. It went well with the rice, which was also of high quality.
The chicken meatball was normal. Putting lemon sauce made it a little better. The desert was good.
The drink I ordered was fruity. Pretty refreshing.
The service was fast and friendly. Overall a nice experience!
The foods are fantastic!!! A bit pricey, but it’s still acceptable. We tried the omakase, and there were no regrets. Every course are so good and yummy. I’ll let the pictures talk for themselves.
If you're a fan of Morimoto Masaharu then this is a must for you. I suggest the Omakase so you get a little of everything. Tuna Pizza and Shrimp Pops for appetizers were great. If you're looking for traditional Sushi/Japanese Cuisine then you don't know who Morimoto is, so this place is not for you. A beautiful restaurant with friendly Hosts and Staff. Great Bar as well!!
Very nice decor, good service, and the food is good. Unfortunately for the prices they charge here, just good isn't a great deal.
Admittedly I went for restaurant week so the portion sizes may have been adjusted accordingly but I didn't leave feeling very satisfied. I got the Sakura smoked octopus, which was admittedly very good but the portion was small. For the main course both my friend and I got the sashimi. This was once again decent but we were surprised to see that we didn't get the same assortment of fish.
I can't give this place less than four stars because the food is definitely good but it was not a great value for me. If you're coming here to splurge or for a work compensated meal, it is definitely worth checking out. Otherwise be aware that it is on the expensive side with small-ish portions.
We were three to dine a Sunday evening in November 2018.
I started with Braised Daikon. Delicious.
My husband started with 2 x 3 sushi selections (rockfish, barracuda, abalone, butterfish, Antarctic salmon and grilled fresh water eel). All incredibly delicious and fresh. See attached photos.
Our young child enjoyed 3 servings of wagyu skewers. I tasted his dish. Very flavorful.
I enjoyed my surf and turf.
My husband chose Duck, Duck, Goose. He says it was the best tasting poultry serving he has ever enjoyed. Perfectly prepared, very tender and flavorful. A side dish was sauteed bok choy in ginger.
The wine was "Kith and Kin Napa". Outstanding. So good my husband ordered a case from a retailer.
All in all Morimoto is one of our best dining experiences. We highly recommend Morimoto.
Our server Lai Ling/Elva was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, attentive and a true joy talking with her. A real asset to the restaurant.
This is hard to review. I did Omakaee. The food was EXCELLENT!! But the price was very high. I know there is a premium for the name and location, and I'm fine with that. But I was still hungry when I left. It's hard to give 5 stars given the amount I spent. So, if you know that and you're cool spending a ton of money for high quality Japanese food, definitely give it a shot!! For me, the price was too high and I will probably pass on my next trip.
The service was A+. I highly recommend the Sake pairings.
The food was absolutely amazing. The seasonal sashimi and the main course was well presented and very delicious; we ordered the "Surf and Turf" and the "Yakitori (the grilled chicken with crispy rice)". The uni was definitely the highlight of the night, it tasted soo good, as if it was fresh from the ocean, I was so excited that I forgot to take a photo of it and just went for it haha! Remarkable dessert presentation and very delicious as well, I highly recommend the Flaming Chocolate Ball.Overall a great experience and had an amazing anniversary dinner with my boyfriend! Cheers!
Fantastic food! Beautiful ambiance! Fantastic service! Definitely a must go whenever in New York City! I had been to other Morimoto restaurants but the one in New York City really stands above! It was an awesome experience from start to end! I really recommend it for those who like great Asian food and fantastic service!
My family and I were sightseeing in NYC and could not find a single restaurant that could take us. As a last ditch effort we called Morimoto's and luckily, they were able to squeeze us in. The customer service and staff was very attentive and accommodative. The architectural design of the restaurant was beautiful and the food was exceptional. We ordered the waygu beef hot river stone which we cooked ourselves. The tempura sweet potatoes sounded interesting and tasted great. The third appetizer we got was the gyoza which was served differently than I had ever had. For entrees, a miso as well as an udon soup and the salmon. All of the food was outstanding and I would highly recommend.
The service and food were great, but you would expect that from a NYC restaurant with an Iron Chef's name on it. I was the most impressed with the value. We got the chefs choice sushi for two for 95 dollars. It was about twice as much food as I expected for the price and quality. I highly recomend this one.
Food was absolutely delicious, though it's expensive and portions are small. I had high expectations coming in and was not disappointed. We went for restaurant week. We didn't love the tuna tartare, but the chicken yakitori, sea bass, and sushi were all sublime. Best tuna roll I've ever had. It was super busy, but staff were very friendly and attentive.
This is a 3.5 star rating, which was rounded up: Reservations are rarely necessary at Morimoto, where the food is of good, but ordinary quality, and (where the food itself) is enjoyed by those that have either not attended culinary events frequently enough, or have had limited travel to the West Coast, Hawaii, Japan, or Hong Kong, where food quality is consistently better than at Morimoto. (Even the Ritz Carlton in Grand Cayman Islands wins on food quality alone.) Presentation wise, it is acceptable for NYC standards, but there is nothing noteworthy, or edgy. The service is always superb, with one main server, several bussers, and several presenters delivering food, some more enthusiastic than others. There are several hosts, and coat check, in front of 2 commercial quality double doors. The atmosphere is buzzing with a generous collection of business elite, tourists, fashionistas (although not as beautiful as Cipriani), and regular patrons, like this writer, well into the 2200 hour, with the kitchen that closes shortly thereafter. The setting is large, sparkling, and open, with the kitchen and center bar visible from multiple spots. Excellent for small groups, and large ones of 40+. Multiple levels (up or down 3 steps) add dimensional quantities, rarely seen in NYC restaurants. Bathrooms are gender - specific, and may or may not be wheelchair accessible. Morimoto is force of nature to go to once (or in my case many times over the last decade), and a space of enjoyable gatherings.
Some of the best food I've ever had. Went for restaurant week but quality did not suffer. Strongly recommend the black cod (not pictured) and the sweet potato tempura. Great spot for a special occasion
