Xi'an Famous Foods is a great place to buy some good and cheap asian dishes for on the go. I ordered a common lamb burger and it was very tasty.
Glad to see this chinatown classic making its way uptown
Recommend the pork bun or cumin lamb burger especially for $3 you can get one
Liang pi (cold skin) noodle is great and refreshing with good chewy texture as wont of this xi an dish
Oxtail is just ok.
Can get somewhat busy with the copious amount of students coming in and out in terms of dining space but food comes quickly and you eat and go
Yup. Hope to be back soon.. Xi'an's menu is comprised of a grid of pictures with names and prices at the bottom of each one. The pictures all look more or less the same, with some accompanied by familiar names and others by names I have never seen before. I played it safe and ordered mild pork noodles. For $7.25 I got a plate of noodles served on a plastic plate with disposable chop sticks and seated myself within the enclave of seating in the back. Articles on the wall talking about this joint as a destination for foodies made me chuckle. Fifteen minutes later my noodles were gone and my doubt with them. Xi'an has noodles that are too long to eat with grace, wastes resources on single use plates and chop sticks, has bad seating options, but those thoughts all melt away with your first bite. Thee noodles are simply tremendous. They made a fairly simple dish burst with flavor and left me wanting another order. I'll be back soon!
"... The dumplings cradle nicely spiced meatballs of spiced ground lamb inside pliant but firm and chewy dough. And every dish is complemented with a wealth of herbs, florals, and aromatics to proper round out each rewarding bite...."
I got the traditional Spicy cumin lamb noodles. The dish had a good amount of their chili oil sauce on it, so be prepared for the spice level (I got the normal/regular amount which felt perfect). Don’t forget to order a water at the kiosk because they don’t have free water/restaurant cups to drink with.
I recently visited Xi'an Famous Foods and I got to say it was a great spot for a quick meal. The highlight of the meal was the dumpling in a spicy hot oil - it was amazing! The Chinese hamburger was also good, but when I dipped it into the hot oil it was even better. The restaurant was clean and the iced tea was also very refreshing. The ordering process is done through a kiosk which was convenient. Highly recommend!
We ordered the spicy and sour lamb dumplings, stewed pork hand ripped noodles, spicy cumin lamb hand ripped noodles. The noodles are hand pulled by the chef and was very springy. The pork were stewed and very tender, so the noodles dishes were absolutely stunning. The spicy noodles can be a bit spicy (like mala) so be prepared if you order it.
The dumplings were not the most exciting though. The fillings were generous, but it was outshined by the noodles
Card machine was down, so we had some struggle with cash unfortunately
Recently visited - 100% satisfaction, perfect place for a quick authentic tasty meal from the Western Chinese cuisine. The hand-ripped noodles were delicious (ordered one vegetarian option, one with pork), the place was clean, prices totally fine, hawberry ice tea special… Certainly recommend and worth visiting / tasting.
The hand pulled noodles are their signature dish and super delicious. I would recommend to get these if you go there. You can get dumplings for a better price at many other places in chinatown, but their hand pulled noodles are special. Spiciness levels are already "accustomed to westerners", so don't be afraid.
Prices are a bit high considering that you dine and sit on metal tables and stools and food is served in plastic bowls on trays.
We got the pork hand ripped noodles, stewed pork hand ripped noodles in soup, and spicy cumin lamb burger. Highly recommend anything with the noodles…great texture and pull.
I’ve tried about 4 items in their menu (including their tasty Chinese burger) & N9 Zha Jiang noodle is my fave 😍! Their chilli oil is super good 👍 (flavourful & not numbing). You can choose your spicy level too, and they recommend at least Mild as their chilli oil is super good! I always order Spicy & it’s perfect for me. One of the best cheap eats in NYC with tax included & no tipping (as it’s a self-serve place).
I can't get each of the specific Chinese cuisines in my hometown. This causes me distress as in 2019, while in Australia, I had some biang biang noodles and haven't been able to find anything similar since. Well if you're going to find anything anywhere, it's going to be in NYC. So here we are making a trip to XFF to have a plate to satisfy a four year crave. They were delicious & highly recommended.
I’ve been to two other Manhattan locations for consistently delicious spicy lamb cumin hand-pulled noodles and dumplings. This Chinatown location is no different - also, good ac, choice of cash, credit card or debit, lots of seating and good value for the money. People kept coming in right up to 8:30 closing.
Gotta love these spicy tingly hand pulled noodles. The beef and pork were fantastic but the lamb is supposed to be extra special. We need some locations in Los Angeles please :)
Consistent with their food throughout the chains, just noticed our order did take a while longer at this location, but servicer were easy to work with when placing our order. Had the their house made jasmine tea and just as good as their food.
Great noodles with a spicy kick to them. Price-wise they're a bit more expensive then you'd get for a mom and pap place but they definately live up to the hype if you enjoy spicy food.
Food: amazing, delicious, authentic.
Service: it’s like a fast food place, you order at a computer, pick up your order, then you can sit.
Interior: eat & leave again, not very comfortable.
This was my first time tasting Chinese Western food and I really like it.
I got:
1. Spicy Cumin Lamb Burger. The taste of the lamb was good but overall the burger (pita) its ok, nothing extraordinary.
2. Spicy Pork Noodles: The pork taste was perfect and the sauce too. Really liked this dish.
Overall I recommend this place to experience some spicy western Chinese cuisine and I definitely want to taste more western cuisine. The food was delivered pretty fast and even though it was almost full house we managed to get seated and ate comfortably.
Delicious chewy thick hand pulled noodles! Got the spicy cumin lamb and that did not disappoint. They keep their AC blasting in the restaurant and makes it a perfect spot to eat these spicy noodles (and a break from the summer heat too). You can choose the level of spice and I find the regular is a great if you can handle spice regularly. The space is also kept clean and there is no waitstaff so clean as you go.
Kinda of fast food with Chinese style spicy noodle, not too bad, can try. @live2njoy
My daughter was craving for food from Xian after hearing about hand ripped noodles. We ordered the spicy lamb noodles and spicy and sour pork noodles.
She loved the flavor of lamb and spiced noodles but the thickness of noodles was not what she expected. It was cooked and well soaked in the lamb sauce. Dumplings was great.
Delicious food at a reasonable price. I've been to the Flushing location and the noodle thickness and texture was better but it was still tasty at this location. Lamb was not gamey at all and a lot less gristle than ive had at other places so i appreciate that. Cucumbers look super spicy but they were less so than they look (which hubby who cant eat a whole lot of spice appreciated). Overall I'd come here again.
