Came for lunch and Shanghai 21 did not disappoint. It was packed and there was a waiting time of about 20 minutes. Waited and got seated - soon after we ordered, our starters arrived. We went for the house special soup dumplings which is heaven in your mouth. Burst of flavors combining that with the spicy dumplings we got from the menu. We also had the scallion pancakes which were phenomenal! Singapore style noodles with chicken and sea food was not the missus’s favorite but I enjoyed it yum yum 🤤 overall it was magnificent

We went here Christmas Day. A lot of the other restaurants had long queues outside but, rather than making you wait, this restaurant was taking names instead and asking you to come back in a hour and half/two hours. We went back an hour and a half later and were seated straight away. The shredded beef is the best I’ve ever had! I’d also recommend the steamed pork dumplings.

A group of friends and I came to Chinatown for a day and wanted to find a good sit down restaurant, and we definitely did! We had to wait maybe 30 - 45 mins for a group of 8 on a weekend, which isn’t too bad, given how busy they were. The soup dumplings are definitely a must try, they were delicious. The scallion pancakes were also great. Prices were affordable given the sizes were bigger than expected. I would totally dine here again if I’m back in the area.

We came for a family dinner, told us that we had to wait for an hour, but we ended up waiting for only less than 20 minutes. The food was amazing. We ordered the dumplings, general chicken, stew, beef, duck. All the food was amazing. Prices were reasonable. Portions are pretty big and can be shared.

This was one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve eaten at. The wait was long, however it was worth it! The food was fresh, and flavorful. The waiter’s service was good. The price was respectable as well, for a table of three. When in Chinatown, Shanghai 21 is a good restaurant to enjoy a meal.

This place is popular. We got there and asked for a table. Host was nice. Told us it was an hour wait. We were seated within 45 minutes👍. The soup dumplings were delicious. The skin was very thin, which takes skill! But they tear easily and they touch each other, causing the nieghbor to rip when you pick one up. My kids love them so much they say I don't order enough. Everything tasted great.

Fried shrimps were great - tender and the sauce was very delicious. Soup dumpling was probably the best I have ever had. However, our beef was very salty although i really liked the texture. I had to have it with a bowl of rice. The wait time was about 30 minutes, which was reasonable for me. Food is served quite quickly.

If I could give this place 15 stars, I would. We waited for a table for about 15 minutes, which was well worth the wait. We ordered a variety of dishes including dim sum and typical Chinese food. Everything was amazing! The best meal I’ve eaten since leaving home 5 days ago. Stop in, it won’t disappoint!

We really enjoyed Shanghai food. Let’s try Shanghai 21. It was pretty hard to decide what to eat;everything on the menu looked tempting, so we decided to order two dishes 1. Sesame Chicken over Rice - $10.50: Unfortunately, it was a bit too sweet for our taste. Despite that, the dish was quite crunchy, and the overall flavor was good. 2. Spicy Stewed Beef over Rice - $11.50: This stewed beef, to me, resembled beef brisket and wasn't very spicy. It lacked spiciness altogether. However, the flavor and the size of the meat were satisfying. In general, we highly recommend trying this place. Looking at the menu, the prices for noodle soup, lo mein, pan-fried noodles, and over rice dishes are quite reasonable. However, we found the dumpling prices a bit on the higher side.

The place was bustling when we were there. We ordered several soup dumplings, but the crab and pork with black truffle were the best. The service was prompt, and the restroom was kept clean.

Decided to get some food in Chinatown and noticed Shanghai 21 was quite popular. Waited 15-20min before getting seated which is fine as the tables turn over quickly. Ordered spring rolls which weren’t great, but they are famous for the soup dumplings. The steam vegetable dumplings were very good and the Shanghai style noodles with vegetables taste alone was great, but was elevated with the addition of the table chili sauce. Prices were reasonable in an expensive city. Service was friendly and efficient.

Came here for some dumplings after hearing great things. We were not disappointed!! We went at a busy time but didn't mind waiting 10 minutes to get seated. The food came quickly and it was sooo good! Can't recommend this place enough if you're looking for dumplings or just good Asian cuisine. We got the soup dumplings, fried pork buns, shanghai lo mein, and pork fried rice!

Great authentic Shanghainese food in Chinatown. Highly recommend the soup dumplings and shanghai stir fry noodles. Scallion pancakes were a-little overcooked. It can get really busy during prime time. I recommend going a bit early or later in the day.

The 30-minute wait was well worth it. While the Dim Sum menu is somewhat small, all of the dishes we ordered were wonderful. Standout items included the crispy Scallion Pancakes (better than Nom Wah Tea Parlor) and the Steamed Watercress and Shrimp Dumplings - incredible deliciousness housed in gorgeous green dough. We wanted the Steamed Snow Pea Leaves with Shrimp Dumplings, but they were out of snow peas. The service was attentive and excellent. The only downside is that two nearby tables with many people caused a noise level that was uncomfortable. Additional kudos for the super clean bathroom!

The wait was 45 minutes but well worth it. The food was quick to come out and was delicious. Waiter was friendly and the portions were perfect. If your in Chinatown nyc it's a good place to eat.

The food is really nice the service is quick and good. The atmosphere is not great. The place looks really old and needs a renovation but all the places around Chinatown look more or less a bit worn out. There is a queue at peak times.

I checked out some Google reviews and this came in top of the list in Chinatown. I am so glad we stumbled into this restaurant. It was busy but we were able to be seated quickly. The food was so tasty. The shredded crispy beef was out of this world. I could have eaten the whole plate on my own. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but was clean and tidy inside.

Our go to spot for soup dumplings. Reasonably priced and large sizes compared to others places. Scallion pancakes are also a personal favorite here - not too much dough but flavorful.
