Standard diner fare--great service
Have dined-in and done takeout when I need a greasy-spoon fix--nothing to rave about, but gets the job done when you are looking for some decent diner food in the Murray Hill/Grand Central area. Counter staff very nice, great conversation while you wait.
We were recommended to go to Scotty's by the concierge in our in our hotel and it was a brilliant recommendation. Scotty's is a proper American diner. The breakfast was very good and we would definitely go here again if we were in New York. Highly recommended.
I came to this place with a bunch of my friends for an early breakfast and it is safe to say that it is more than good.
I ordered the deluxe pancake and it was great. The bacon was crispy good, the eggs were greatly done and the staff was friendly and welcoming.
Would definitely recommend if you're in the area.
Awesome diner! Not the prettiest or coziest but the food was great. We were 4 at a table and couldn't move. Eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection, yummy hashed potatoes, tasty veggie omelet and massive pancakes. The eggs benedict were amazing! Service was decent. Great choice and prices were good. For 4 people we paid $50! We got our food within 5-7 minutes of ordering.
The feeing of being transported back to 80s... the kind of diner you see in movies... the 24 hour service... option to enjoy breakfast any time of the day so that you can munch on waffle, pancakes, French toast, omelette etc... with hot chocolate and everything, believe me when I say everything tastes fantastic... what else will you call heaven
Scotty's is my go to diner for heartwarming matzo ball soup on my annual trip to NYC. Service is quick and food tasty and of course it is open 24 hours
This self confessed 'old school"diner brings a bit of Brooklyn into Manhattan. The night we went the banter between the staff was fantastic, straight out of the 1980s movie. The food is passable, pretty much what you would expect and the servings are massive. They serve all day breakfast and are open 24 hours a day. Mid evening they were still being kept pretty busy with home delivery. I don't know how the short order chef kept up. If you are a visiter to New York and find yourself round about 36th and Lexington drop by.
Found this place recommended on a number of sites. It was 20 degrees outside and finding chicken pot pie on the menu was a welcomed site... and it did not disappoint. French dip, steak pita and pot roast was also ordered with no complaints.
Surprisingly excellent quality to most if the items. My girlfriend is what I consider to be a very picky eater and she was all smiles. I will definitely return in the future
Dec. 2012. The wife and I visited Scotty's twice while in NYC for our anniversary. The first day we had brunch. She had the NY Pastrami wrap which she raved about. The wrap included cheese, dijon mustard, a mountain of pastrami in a wrap. It was accompanied by fries, a pickle and cole slaw. I had a bacon, egg & cheese omelet, which was very good. It came complete with country potatoes and toast. The morning staff was very nice and attended to our every need. A+ for our morning trip.
The second time we went was a late night dinner, as we spent all day running around NYC doing some Christmas shopping. That night my wife got the corned beef wrap, again with fries, a pickle and cole slaw. I went with the open faced roast beef sandwich. It was accompanied with mashed potatoes and corn. As good as her pastrami wrap was, she said that the corned beef wrap was the opposite. The wrap was soggy, the meat was tough and had little to no flavor. The roast beef was tender, hot and was plentiful. I had to get a to-go plate because I couldn't eat it all. We also got a piece of strawberry cheesecake that was fantastic. The night staff was not nearly as nice as the morning staff. The cashier was rude and the wait staff in the evening was not as effecient as the morning staff. Overall, Scotty's was a good place and we will try again when we are back in NYC, but only for breakfast or brunch.
C- for our evening trip.
Great service! Loved my omelette!
Endless Coffee. I went here on Memorial Day afternoon and sat in the back room. Fairly busy but no wait. I had the apple-cinnamon French Toast Brunch Special which incl. a fruit cup, coffee and OJ for 11.95. The Apples that came with the French Toast were dipped in way too much syrup or maybe that's how it is out of the can.
Besides this, I enjoyed my meal at Scotty's and found it by using Urbanspoon via the iPhone. The wait staff was efficient and constantly offering more coffee which I appreciated. My friend had Cheesecake ($4.50) which he compared favorably to Junior's.
The diner in Midtown East!!!
The serving size was massive and the portion of French toast alone was what you would expect in most restaurants and it was quite good. The turkey on the other hand was very dry and lacking much of any flavor. The ham was better and the cheese was thick and plentiful.
Lovely local 24-hour NYC diner. Busy on the Sunday morning. I could order anything on their extensive menu so not restricted to a limited breakfast selection.
I'm first to admit that I'm no Philly cheesesteak expert but what I got was hot and fresh. Bread was soft and fluffy. Fries were super hot.
You'll have to queue if you get up late for breakfast but it's a relatively short wait as people don't hang around. It's not very big but nice atmosphere. Would recommend a visit if you are close by in Midtown Manhattan.
We visited this place on our last morning in NYC for a late breakfast and were not disappointed! This place was absolutely packed but we were made to feel so welcome by the owner who was chatting to every table as he went. The food was fantastic, I had chocolate chip pancakes whilst my husband enjoyed pancakes with bacon, ham, sausage and eggs. Coffee was good too and prices are reasonable.
Fantastic place to eat!
This is the sort of diner I've been searching for on many trips to New York and finally found. Used mainly by locals means it is cheaper than the tourist trap places with better food and proper American portions. Had late breakfast here twice on short trip to New York and set me up for full day of walking the sights.
Staff are friendly and efficient, menu is extensive, only downside I can think of is with four people sat at a table it is too small for all the food they bring.
The Google reviews of this place are absolutely accurate. We stayed for breakfast and the pancakes were out of this world.
The food was fantastic, and there was a lot of choice. It's all cooked fresh to order. While we waited, we were given a given a bowl of fresh fruit each which came with the meal, which in NYC was a great refreshing treat.
The staff couldn't do enough for us, and weren't overbearing. They were chatty and friendly.
Granted, the place doesn't look great from the outside, but this feels like a place for the locals. If you want lights and fancy decor, go to Time Square. You want great food and an amazing atmosphere, go here!
Our next visit to NYC will absolutely include a trip to Scottys!
Good Breakfast for average prices. You can pay less or more in Manhattan. Nice diner style and 24 hrs open with breakfast the whole day. Thqats a clear plus.
As an Australian, I've been so enthralled with the idea of dining at a diner. Rated the highest diner near the vicinity of where we stayed, Scotty's fulfilled a boyhood dream of sitting in a diner.
Meals were hearty, good not great. Coffees simply poured from percolator. There wasn't more I could ask for. I left satisfied, pleased with the food and experience.
